Pakistan Batting

Pakistan had a great pitch to bat on 1st and thats why the decided to bat, see if they could post a high score around the 150 160 mark. S. Afridi and M. Hafeez were the openers for Pakistan. It was a good start to the Pakistan Quarter Finals with Afridi hitting the ball with percision. M. Hafeez played his 1st game of the year for Pakistan and looked in some good form aswell up the non-strikers end. It was 48 runs for the partnership before the 1st wicket fell to India. H. Singh grabbed Hafeez with the help from Pathan taking the catch, Hafeez was gone for 24 a good strike rate hitting 24 from 16 balls including a boundary. Ul-Haq was in next for Pakistan him and Afridi put on a 45 run partnership and thats when India stirked again witht the all important wicket of Afridi Pathan bowled him out on 33. Hitting 4 boundaries along the way, India look pleased with that wicket. Pakistan's middle order batsman took the total to a good score of 162 from the 20 overs. And India have alot of work to do to get back into this one. Ul-Haq hit 21, Khan hit 26, and another 26 for Akmal. Pakistan look in a good ship here, and if they win, they will face New Zealand in the Semi Finals next week.

Great win for Kiwis in first match! In this match, Target is gettable for India! Hope they can make it :)

India's Batting

India had a reasonable score to chase down posted by Pakistan, it is doable but they will need to play some good cricket if they are a show.
India put there guns in the top 3 opening positions, with Dravid, Tendulkar and Gangluly the top 3 for India hoping for a lightning start.
It wasnt a lightning start like they hoped but it was a reasonable one for India with Dravid and Tendulkar both finding form before this 20/20 tournament. It was 54 runs before the 1st wicket to Pakistan, and it was Dravid that was out, balled by Afrifdi and caught by Asif, Dravid was gone for 25 from 20 balls with 3 boundaries in that for Dravid. Tendulkar was good up the other end for the partnership, before he was dismissed by Ul-Hasan with the catching assistance from Akmal hitting a good innings total of 40.
Y. Singh was India's only other big scorer hitting 41 being the biggest hitter for the game. But it wasnt enough as India fell 12 runs short of Pakistan's total. Pakistan win and will play New Zealand in the 1st Semi Final.

South Africa's Batting

South Africa elected to use the good pitch early winning the toss and electing to bat. It was hot, so it would take a little toll on Australia standing in the field. But it was a 20/20 match so no harm done, but South Africa looked to post a good 1st up score. G. Smith and A. Deviliers were the 2 openers for South Africa. They out on a good partnership, hitting the singles and the odd boundaries. It wasnt until 56 runs later that the 1st wicket fell, a run out decision, a very close call from the 3rd umpire but it was out, and G. Smith was gone for 19 from 23 balls, and only hitting the 1 boundary. Michael Clarke in the field was spectacular with a throw from the deep running out Smith on the 2nd run. 8 runs later it was Deviliers who was lbw'd by Andrew Symonds making 34 from 42 and also 1 boundary to his Innings. Australia were looking good it's 2/64
J. Kallis and H. Gibbs were in the crease for South Africa they put on a 30 run partnership before it was Gibbs again, a run out decision pending on the 3rd umpire to make, and was given out this time Gilchrist, Gibbs was gone for 26 from 11 balls, a better score with 5 boundaries and the 1 massive 6 out of the grounds. J. Kallis and H. Amla were at the crease but just from 4 balls and 1 six Amla was dissmissed by Nathan Bracken and the catch by Cameron White. J.Kallis and B. Dippenar were the 2 batsman not out at the end of the 20 overs for South Africa with Kallis on 31 not out, and Dippenar on 18 not out. South Africa posted a good score 139 for Australia to chase.

Australia Batting

Australia needed to chase 139 posted by South Africa. A good score but is it good enough, because these Australian's have been in great form off late. Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist took strike for Australia. and it was 1st ball for Adal Gilchrist after Hayden made 1 run, was caught out by Dippenar and bowled by S. Pollock, Gilchrist gone for a duck, something Australia didnt need. So 1 down, Hayden and Ponting into the attack for Australia. Some luck went Australia's way with Gibbs dropping Ponting when he was on 12. A 66 run partenership by Hayden and Ponting got the scoreboard looking more respectable for Australia. Hayden was the next player to be dismissed gone on 40, being caught by Pollck and bowled by Boje. A good 50 run partnership to Ponting and Andrew Symonds put Australia in a winning position, but it wasnt over yet. The only thing stopping Australia would be the time of the 20 overs. Because they will easily take out South Africa's score. R. Ponting was the next batsman to dismiss on 47 a suberb innings being run out. But it was Symonds and Ponting that did the damage together in their partnership and the help of Hayden earlier in the Innings which made Australia triumph, and will play either Bangladesh or England in the 2nd Semi Final next week.
