Australia vs New Zealand - 20-20 Knockout Cup - Final @ Melbourne. Australia- Live on channel
channel9.jpg

Hello ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls and welcome to the Cricket. We are here today to witness the Final of the 20/20 Tournament between host nation Australia and up and coming team New Zealand. I am Mark Nicholas and i am joined by Michael Slater on ground level, good Afternoon Michael, Good afternoon Mark today should be a ripper, we couldnt get a better stage, the MCG, packed full because of the home nation making it into the final, i wouldnt expect it to be as full as it is today if say Bangladesh bet Australia and it was New Zealand vs Bangladesh. But the MCG packed full 90+ thousand people are expected to turn up today, it's still an hour or so before the play so they are still streaming into the ground to grab their seats, and hopefully what a game they will turn out to see". ?The weather down on ground level is perfect for playing cricket, it is currently i was told by the weather master earlier that it is currently 26 decrees and by the end of the day we will be looking at 28 tops, so just beautiful conditions for playing cricket?.

Now Slate?s the pitch looks in good shape doesnt it, although it does have some patches of grass up the Member?s end of the pitch just a bit further then a good length on this pitch, thats probably the only problem i can see for the batsman when batting today, but maybe it is too far away to try and target because like i said, its further then the good length on the pitch, so they would have to attempt nearly a yorker to hit the grassy area. But other then that, the pitch looks in good sted, it does like pretty bouncy today and with me feeling the surface now... it defiently does have some bounce in it, i was out here earlier watching Stuart Clark bowl for Australia, and he put some good bounce into most of his balls, so for McGrath who likes to give the odd bouncer, today will be the day to produce one. But all in all down here the ground is in perfect shape after the rain we had here in Melbourne yesterday, and all looks set for a big final between Australia and New Zealand, we are going to be join by Tony Greig and Ian Chappel in the commentary box, and for the coin toss right after this break

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, i am Mark Nicholas and i would like to welcome you to the Final of the 20-20 contest between host nation Australia and New Zealand. I am joined by ex-Cricketer Michael Slater, and Slate's what a game we have on for today" " Yeah certainly and good afternoon everyone. Well Australia and New Zealand, what a contest this is going to be, Australia will be favourites because of the home country, but by geeze New Zealand in every series this season have been right up there, they have won the World Series earlier in the year, and now they could win the 20-20 Compettion". This couldnt be a bigger stage, the greatest sporting stadium in the world, the M.C.G is looking stunning, we are expecting 90+ thousand people to pack the stands today, it is packed now, and its still an hour until the 1st ball, but as you can see, the crowd is still flocking into the ground, hoping to see a contest."

Now Slate's i see you over there checking out the pitch, what have you got for us, an update on the pitch" " Yeah well, the pitch looks in damn fine condition, after the early morning rain we had yesterday groundsmen thought it would dampen the pitch, but i can safley say, it has turned out in suberb form. The only thing i can see would be a bother to the batsman is there is a grassy patch up here at the Member's end of the ground, just above a good line and length there is a patch of grass which may bother the batsman but the bowlers will need to bowl a yorker basically to hit the spot of grass so i wouldnt expect it to be a huge issue today, but the rest of the pitch there is hardly any spots on here at all, it is a magnificent pitch and the team that bats first will get the advantage, as this pitch likes to get duey when it comes to night time. Also i was watching Stuart Clark earlier bowling on the pitch and there was alot of bounce on pitch, so there are a advantage for the bowlers and the batsman either way it goes, it will be an interesting match, but i am going with my old team, Australia to win.

Thanks Slate's and we will be back with the coin toss right after the break
....

The Coin Toss
Welcome back to the cricket, it's Australia vs New Zealand in the 20-20 Final at the M.C.G in Melbourne, and i am joined by Australian and New Zealand captain's Ricky Ponting and Stephen Fleming and referee Billy Bowden, and i believe that away side Stephen Fleming has the coin, and Punter calls, Punter calls heads, and heads it is. Now Ricky what have you decided to do? "Yeah we're going to have a bat 1st, i believe this pitch is good for the opening team to bat, it has alot of bounce at the start of the innings, and this pitch tends to get duey in the later stages of the day so hopefully then, thats when were bowling and we can keep New Zealand down to a low score". Thanks Ricky, now i am joined by Fleming, now you would of batted 1st if the toss went your way"? " Yeah we would of just like Ricky said the pitch has an advantage to the opening team to bat, so now we will have to look to overcome the due factor in the later stages of the evening, but this pitch has alot of bounce in it, so hopefully we can use that in our favour". Well thankyou Ricky and Stephen, so the preview from the MCG, is that Australia won the toss and elected to bat 1st, and we will see you with the 1st ball, taking over is Tony Greig, Michael Slater and Richie Beanu, and we will be back after the break

Australia Batting

Australia have been called the powerhouse of modern day cricket with the likes of Gilchrist, Symonds and White for smashing the ball for 6 most of the time, but was today going to be the case? Australia won the toss and elected to bat on what seems to be a perfect pitch for batting on, but can Australia get their big smashers going and post a good score for New Zealand to chase. 1 of thos big smashers were up 1st for Australia, Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden came onto the field with a massive roar from the crowd. Both men were down on form of late and were wanting to make a mense of what they have done in the past, even captain Ricky Ponting put pressure on the 2 opening batsman asking them for more. Both men started off pretty well, but it was good bowling from Shane Bond early that set the mood bowling a good length, and pitching a bouncer in every now and again. Michael Slater was talking in the post macth preview about the grassy area on the pitch, and Shane Bond found that patch, and was aiming for it in the odd ball, the ball did turn a bit when it did hit the grassy area and was confusion to the batsman. Adam Gilchrist showed early why he is known as a BIG hitter smashing 2 sixes of Shane Bond in the early stages of the Innings. The Partnership that has been down lately was going good for Australia, the rev up from Ponting must of stuck in their mind. Matthew Hayden struggled for a while, with the slower balling from Butler and Tuffey from New Zealand after a lightning start, and you could tell he was getting frasturated. Matthew Hayden in the end was to frasturated and gave his wicket away, trying to hit Tuffey out of the ground, only to miss time the ball and land in the hands of Daniel Vettori down the middle of the ground. New Zealand had their first breakthrough after the Partnership put on 48. Hayden gone made 22 from 17 balls, including 3 boundaries.

Matthew Hayden looked in good form early, but then was frasturated by good bowling by Bond, and let loose for a shot, but was caught

Captain Ricky Ponting was at number 3, he even gave himself a spray earlier in the week because of his down form before this match aswell, now lets see if he can post a good score today. It was Tuffey bowling to him. And Ponting made a reasoable start to his day, with a boundary just the 3rd ball that he faced. Shane Bond after a great start in the balling was being hit over the fence by Gilchrist, tried to change his style to Ponting for the right hander, but nothing seemed to work for Bond, as Ponting was getting his share of the over the rope smashes, smashing Bond for 6 again. Bond you could see was getting frasturated as he produced wides. Stephen Fleming saw Bond getting frasturated and bowling poorly and getting smashed every ball, so he bought in Vettori early then he would of hoped. Ponting and Gilchrist put on a good 40 run partnership, but the move of Flemings produced the goods with Vettori lbw'ing Ponting, and now New Zealand were 88/2, Ponting gone for 25 off 19 balls, hitting 2 boundaries and 2 sixes.

Adam Gilchrist must of listened to Pontings arguments earlier in the week, because both of them, Hayden and Ponting produced good scores, but Gilchrist was still out there battling on, Clarke and Gilchrist put on a 25+ run partnership, but it was the slow bowling of Butler that caught Gilchrist off guard, and was clean bowled by Butler for 48 just 2 shy of the half century, Gilchrist was furious he didnt produce the half century, 48, faced 36 balls, 3 boundaires and 2 sixes looked in great form, was furious the slower ball fooled him, but it was good bowling from Butler, Australia down 116/3

Adam Gilchrist was 2 short from the half century looked in good form against New Zealand

The Rest of the Australia batting line-up contributed well, with Clarke hitting 14, bowled by Vettori again, 2nd wicket for Vettori, the big hitter Andrew Symonds was down on form today only hitting 14 aswell before being run out. Michael Hussey looked in good form hitting 14 and not being out at the end of the 20 overs. Cameron White hit a 6 from Vettori and that was the only runs he made. Brett Lee played well for his 9 that he made. Stuart Clark and Michael Hussey were the players that saw out the 20 overs for Australia. Australia Hitting 7 sixes for the match, a good total of 165 for New Zealand to chase.

New Zealand Batting

New Zeland had a score of 160 to chase in 20 overs posted by Australia with the good hitting from Adal Gilchrist setting Australia a light. New Zealand had Lou Vincent and M. Sinclair opening their batting, and it was a good start. With Glenn McGrath bowling a good length, but the batsman were up to his bowling standards. The due factor Slater was talking about earlier in the day had come into place, and something that Fleming said they will need to overcome. a 56 run partnership from Vincent and Sinclair set New Zealand up well in the 1st 10 overs. Having cracks at the big hits aswell with both players snatching a 6, but it was Sinclair that really impressed. 9 boundaries in his innings to take his total to 61 before he was caught by Nathan Bracken and balled by Brett Lee on 61. But it was Vincent that was gone 1st. Lee again the bowler but this time it was keeper Gilchrist that was the catcher, Vincent gone on 24. New Zealand look ok, 119/2.

Vincent dissapointed in a good battle against Australia

Captain Stephen Fleming came in at number 3 and played well, hitting the ball sweetly of the bat, was in good form like Sinclair, hitting the boundaries and taking a 6 of Stuart Clark on his way to 33 before it was spin bowler Andrew Symonds that was the bowler and Glenn McGrath catching Fleming, after Fleming tried to smash Symonds out of the park, McGrath with a jumpiing catch before the rope, was a good catch from the old fella.

Nathan Astle and C. McMillian saw out the 20 overs for New Zealand, but in the end, wasnt enough for New Zealand, as Australia have won the 20-20 contest Final at Melbourne.
