Australia's Squad

R. Ponting (C)
A. Gilchrist (vc)
M. Clarke
M. Hussey
J. Gillespie
M. Hayden
B. Hogg
B. Lee
S. Clark
J. Maher
N. Bracken
G. McGrath
A. Symonds
J. Hopes
C. White
S. Watson
D. Hussey
S. MacGill
M. Kasprowicz
D. Cullen

Australia have gone for a strong hitting side with the likes of Symonds, Hussey and Cameron White will probably be in there middle order so at the end of their innings, they have those 3 players to make a big score at the end of the innings. Jason Gillespie is an interesting one, wouldnt be suprised if he didnt get a game, just named in the sqaud so he will probably go back to play county cricket with South Australia. Australia have alot of batting power, Gilchrist, Ponting, Symonds, Hussey, Clarke and Cameron White will probably be in their best 11, but then again they have alot of bowling power to, led by McGrath with Clark, Watson, Bracken, Lee. Looks a good Australia side for the experts.

New Zealand's Sqaud

S. Fleming (C)
M. Sinclair
N. Astle
S. Bond
C. Cairns
C. Harris
B. McCullum
C. McMillian
I. Butler
J. Oram
K. Mills
S. Styris
D. Tuffey
D. Vettori
L. Vincent
H. Marshall
C. Martin
M. Papps
P. Wiseman
J. Marshall

New Zealand have gone with a different side to the Australian's, alot of different names we havent been familiar with in the other competitions they have been playing in. Cairns, Harris, Martin, Papps, Wiseman all havent played for New Zealand for the year yet, so interesting to see if they get picked for the team to play against Australia and England. Got alot of good batsman, not big hitters like Australia do, but good clean hitters, Fleming, Astle, Vincent, McCullum and Oram probably the biggest hitter out of them all, interesting to see if he gets a game.

England's Sqaud

M. Vaughan (C)
J. Anderson
G. Batty
M. Butcher
I. Bell
P. Collingwood
A. Flintoff
A. Giles
S. Harmison
G. Jones
M. Hoggard
A. Strauss
D. Gough
R. Key
M. Trescothick
G. Thorpe
K. Pietersen
S. Jones
K. Ali
V. Solanki

England have gone with a decent side, alot of bowling power there, a good round of batters aswell, just depends on how the batters will come through these matches, because they have been down on form of late. Butcher, Batty, Gough, Key, Thorpe, S. Jones, Ali all havent played in England colours for a long time, so see how those players respond in the rythm to getting back into the big stage, its not county cricket anymore, it is the big stage and they are playing for their country now, not their own state, bigger stakes on the line.

All in all, looks like a brilliant competition we are in for, Australia, New Zealand and England will do battle for the Commonwealth Bank Series

New Zealand have won the toss and elected to field

New Zealand make an early breakthrough

New Zealand came out today, won the toss and elected to field first, a very interesting decision by Fleming and his men, but they made the most of the damp pitch early. The Kiwi's looked good right from the word go, Shane Bond and D. Tuffey were bowling magnificently, Shane Bond the better of the 2, w as bowling the best he has all summer, right on a good line and length of the pitch.
Even though New Zealand were bowling well, England's batsman were playing the bowlers very well to. Andrew Strauss and Michael Vaughan didnt go for the big hits early, they ran beautifully between the wickets for the singles, but they also hit the odd boundary or 2.

haweye.jpg

Shane Bond mixed his bowling and pace up early to trouble the English batsman

Both Strauss and Vaughan looked good in the middle at the crease, both making the runs with ease, but Shane Bond was troubling Andrew Strauss the left hander, but Strauss was good enough to play it smartly and play the ball well, but it was the good bowling from Shane Bond that prevailled in the end. A slower ball from Bond, which he has been doing all day, Strauss went to hit it, edged and caught at 1st slip by captain Stephen Fleming. Strauss was gone for 30, he would of been dissapointed not to have made something more.

A.Strauss.jpg

Andrew Strauss looked in good form out the midle, but a slower ball from Bond, ended in the hands of Fleming at slip

The English batsman just couldnt make a good enough score, everytime a batsman looked to post a good enough score, New Zealand changed their bowling and they got the batsman off guard, and or either the batsman played a silly shot which got him out. Michael Vaughan played well for his 27 and number 3, Paul Collingwood played well for 20, but all the English batsman would have liked to have continued their Innings and produce a better score, it was good bowling by New Zealand, but now lets just see if England can produce the same result in the field as New Zealand did.

Michael Vaughan dissapointed, after making 27, would have liked to build on that but wasnt to be

Great bowling from Kiwis :clap England in deep trouble! Also nice presentation mate.

England Rip through New Zealand, or should we say Andrew Flintoff, rips through New Zealand

England really needed to bowl well, probably the best they have bowled all summer to keep New Zealand within their reachable target of 160 that England made earlier. England had a good bowling lineup for this match with, Gough, Harmison, Flintoff, Anderson and Hoggard all in the team. England really needed and wanted a wicket early, and it was early that they made the breakthrough. Lou Vincnet, a player who England have struggled to dismiss over the past few games was the 1st player to be England's victim, only making 14, being dismissed by Gough, and with the catching hands of Harmison.
But that was it for a while, England took the foot of the pedal for 10 overs, letting New Zealand put on the runs. The Partnership of Sinclair and Fleming proved costly for England. Fleming didnt come to play cute, as soon as he faced the first ball, he was on song.

Stephen Fleming watches the ball go for 6 over the rope

Vice Captain Andrew Flintoff came in for his 1st spell, and like all the England bowlers, was pretty usuless in the end. But Flintoff did get the all important wicket of M. Sinclair, who was battling well out in the middle, making a solid 46, just 4 shy the half century, was bowled by Flintoff and caught by Anderson right down the middle of the ground, Sinclair went to smash the ball back over Flintoff's head, when the quick Anderson took the diving catch to save the ball from the boundary. All of a sudden, Flintoff's spell looked ok, 11/1 for his 6 overs, was easily the best for the England Bowlers.

Action from Andrew Flintoff against New Zeland

But it was Andrew Flintoff's 2nd spell that got everyone by suprise. Bowled another 4 overs at the end of the game, New Zealand were sure to take out the match, still had 6 wickets in hand to make 50 runs, but it was the class of Flintoff that got rid of the New Zealand batsman 1 by 1. Flintoff took 3 wickets in his first over of his 2nd spell. Flintoff then finsihed the Kiwi's off right before the 50th over came, grabbing another 2 wickets in the 49th over. England have soared to a rare win against New Zealand, and we will have a rematch in 2 days time
