West Indies vs England - World Series Match @ Adelaide
Day - Normal - Sunny - Hot

West Indies won the toss and elected to bat

This was the 2nd last match of the Tournament. England sitting in 2nd position behind New Zealand, and West Indies behind England in 3rd position. No one could afford to loose this match, and secure a spot in the Finals basically. Are we about to see a fantastic cricket match? Or will it be a flock?

West Indies were batting 1st. Hinds and Gayle were up 1st. These 2 have caused England alot of problems during the tournament, and England would love to break up the partnership as quick as possible.
But that didnt happen. Like every other time, Hinds and Gayle put on a great score for the Indies. Although it was a good score, England were more then happy with what they gave away, as in the end it wasnt that much. Hinds was bowled by Ashley Giles, the suprise packet of the Tournament along with Anderson for England. Gayle was next to go Harmison was quick with this ball, 147k's and bowled Gayle middle stump. Now that cheered up Vaughan.

West Indies posted a fairly good score of 232. Higest scorere was Gayle with 53 and Lara was next in line with 35, being bowled by Giles again, the suprise pack from England.

England Needs 233 runs to win

Just like Gayle and Hinds.. Strauss and Trescothick have been major contributors to England's succes in the Tounrament so far. Will this be the case this time?
It certainly will be.
Andrew Strauss was off like a flash. Smashing 18 off the 1st over. Defiently not a start that West Indies was looking for. The ship steady a bit for a few overs. But Strauss got going again, was getting frasturated and started hitting the ball for boundaries again. West Indies couldnt find an answer. His team mate Trescothick up the other end wasnt playing to badly either. Getting himself level with Strauss's score in the 9th over. Both men were sitting on 33 a 66 patnership was on the verge of being something special. West Indies needed a wicket and needed it quick. Strauss and Trescothick kept smashing the ball to the boundaires, even to the spin bowlers. But finally after the 17th over, the 1st Wicket came to hand. Andrew Strauss was gone for 97, just 3 runs short of his century, wasnt to happy in the end.

Strauss and Trescothick put on a 120 partnership

England only needed Strauss and Trescothick to get close to West Indies score. With Strauss making 97 and Trescothick hitting 86 himself. England only needed 15 from Vaughan, 8 from Pietersen, 4 from Thorpe and 14 from Flintoff not out, to defeat West Indies, and probably cement themselves in the Grand Final, against New Zealand. But still there is another game to come, anything can happen.

England vs New Zealand - World Series Match @ Hobart
Day - Normal - Sunny - Warm

New Zealand won the toss and elected to Bat

England vs New Zealand is shaping up to be Match going down in history. Every match has came down to the wire. And hopfully this one can produce the same results. They will play in the last game before the Finals. And if New Zealand win, they will stay top postion. Even if they lose, they still will take top position. England on the other hand, if they win, will face New Zealand in the Final. But if they lose, they can slip down to 3rd, and West Indies will have to face New Zealand in the Final Game.
So what will this game produce?

New Zealand were up 1st to bat. New Zealand has trouble England with their openining batsman, Sinclair and Vincent. Both men have played well and post massive scores against England. Will it be the case this time?

Vincent and Sinclair were up 1st again. No changes to the New Zealand side, since England played them last. And this time, the partnership was solid at the start. Both men, finding the gaps, getting the all important singles, and hitting the odd boundaries here and there. A 50+ partnership was frasturating Vaughan and his bowlers, so Vaughan had to bring in Ashely Giles, his spin bowler, and everyone knows how much of a suprise packet his has been during the tournament. And Giles didnt dissapoint. Just 4 balls into the over, Giles took out Vincent. Bolwing him. Vincent, charge Giles but completely missed the ball, and hit off stump, the partnership broken, just half the job done.
Vincent.jpg

Lou Vincent, clean bowled by Giles

Vincent goes back to pavillion on 47

Sinclair and Fleming the batsman, and they built a solid partnership between them aswell, and this one was frasturating Vaughan and his men, but in came, down on form, Stephen Harmison to take care of Sinclair, bowled a quick ball, edged and caught at 1st slip by Andrew Strauss. Stephen Fleming, and Nathan Astle were New Zealand batters left, but that didnt last long, with Astle making 26 and Fleming on 39, both men, contributing, but not as much as they would have liked. Fleming kicked the ground when dismissed, and Astle's words on channel 9 werent pleasant when he was bowled by Giles and nipped, caught by Geriat Jones the keeper.
Fleming.jpg

New Zealand captain Fleming, was furious he was gone so early.
Astle.jpg

Nathan Astle couldnt find the middle of the bat, instead found the edge of the bat that was caught by Jones

After those 4 players, New Zealand looked in real trouble, the middle order batsman and lower players, couldnt find the runs. New Zealand all bowled out for a reasonable 207.

L. Vincent: b. Giles - 47
M. Sinclair: c. Strauss - b. Harmison - 38

D. Vettori: c Vaughan - b. Harimson - 4

England needs 208 runs to win

England will need to win this match to play New Zealand again in the Final Match of the World Series. Can they do it?

Andrew Strauss and Marcus Trescothick come to the field, These 2 men have dominated the opening batsman department for all 5 teams. Both left handers, can they post a good enough start for England to win the match.
Andrew Strauss was on strike, with Shane Bond bowling, Strauss hit the ball for four with a cut shot. 2nd ball of the innings, Bond balls in the same postion, Strauss realises and smashes the ball for another four with the cut shot again. Bond, now delivers the Yorker, and Strauss blokes. What a battle this may turn out to be, the tention is up, and the atsmophere is electric. Last ball of the Bond over, was a short pitched ball which put Strauss in suprise, try to pull shot, but was CAUGHT , Strauss was gone for 8, Vincent the catcher. England 8/1 not a great start.

A.Strauss.jpg

Andrew Strauss looked good with 2 cut shots, for 2 fours
Bond.jpg

But a shorter ball from Bond, Strauss tried to hit, but was caught by Vincent, England in trouble early.

Captain Michael Vaughan was in next, and maybe wanted to fill the shoes that Strauss had left, only making 8. Trescothick and Vaughan put on a good partnership, getting boundaries and making the singles. Vaughan and Trescothick used the power play brilliantly, with both men, strong in the arms, got over the wall of players in the circle, and only had 2 players to contest with around the boundaries, but they found the gaps with precision. Trescothick was 1st to reach his half century, making it with 42 balls, a reasonable start for Trescothick, and Vaughan made it a double half century making his 50 with 35 balls. Vaughan and Trescothick looked in great touch, and so did England with the early departure of Strauss.
Trescothick.jpg

Trescothick enjoys his batting against New Zealand, making another half century.

Trescothick and Vaughan were still in the crease, taking England's score past 100 by the 9th over. England looked solid. But the breakthrough came for New Zealand with Tuffey dismissing Michael Vaughan, with the assitance from McCullum, Vaughan out for 69 a superb innings. Not long after Trescothick was out aswell for mid 60's, 64 for him, Cairns the bowler and more assistance from McCullum. New Zealand made the break through's but it was a little too late, as England only needed 50+ runs, with 20 overs reamaning.

FONT=Times New Roman]Ladies and gentleman, i am joined by England captain Michael Vaughan and New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming. Fella's welcome[/FONT/]

images.jpg
Thanks Michael

Fleming1.jpg
Thanks Michael

slater.jpg
Now i will start of with New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming. Now Stephen, you have come this far, you cant loose this now. Congradulations on the win in the World Championships by the way.

Fleming1.jpg
Yeah thanks, we had a tough compettion in the World Series no doubt, but that team we won with, is the exact same team we are playing with this morning in the World Series final. You know we have had this team basically the whole way through the tour, with maybe 1 or 2 changes out of the whole tour, so we have come together as a group, basically as a family, we know each others strengths and weaknesses. So we will go out there today and put on our best cricket. But we know it wont be an easy task, you know, we have played England i think maybe 3-4 times in the tournament, and we have watched their other games against Australia, West Indies and South Africa, and we have studied them hard, their strengths and their weaknesses. So we think we are in good shape for this match, and hopefully come home with our 2nd trophy.

slater.jpg
Vaughan, is that what you have been doing aswell, checking out New Zealand's game plan?

images.jpg
Or yeah certainly, its the modern thing to do these days. You always got to know who will dominated and who will let the other team down. But then again, you have to realize that the lower players also can lift for big occasions, and you have to get ready for that aswell. So every team, no matter who you are playing is a challenege of course, and you just have to study their team, watch back over there matches, look closely at their players. Its just compolsery in the modern game.

slater.jpg
Now Vaughan, you guys missed out on the World Championships, but only 1 position. What things went through your mind during that time?

images.jpg
If anyone watched the interview i did with Michael Parkinson, all we can say no about that Tournament is what if, what if we did this, what if we didnt play this. Thats all we can say, we cant blame it on anyone else. I mean, what if we got into the final and won. What if we played New Zealand and this game today was rematch. But thats all we can say now, is what if.......

slater.jpg
Now Flem, you guys go in hot faviourites with your form of late, does that give you a boost in confidence?

Fleming1.jpg
You actually dont try and think about those things, well our team doesnt, we go by our team rules and games plans every game. Dont matter if the odds are 100$ against us, we still play the same brand of cricket. But you know England are a great side. They are currently ranked 2nd in the World at the moment, people might say that arent 2nd in the World because of the form they have been producing of late, but that doesnt mean anything, they might just be down a little. But i am sure they will bring their A game this afternoon, and we will have to match that and bring our A game, and hopefully for everyone's sake it is a close contest.

slater.jpg
Any changes to your side Fleming?

Fleming1.jpg
Like i said earlier, we have had the same side throughout the tournament, maybe 1 or 2 changes throughout, but no none from the last game we faced against England.

slater.jpg
And Vaughan?

images.jpg
Nah mate, their is no change for us either, we have complete confidence in our players, and we think that Warne has prepared us well, as much as we can be, and we look forward to the match out their today, like Fleming said, hoepfully it is a close match for everyone's sake.

slater.jpg
Well thankyou both for your time before the game, and i wish you both good luck, Ladies and Gentlemen would you please thank, English captain Michael Vaughan and Kiwi captain Stephen Fleming.
