England Batting Innings

England needs 303 runs to win. A great total posted by Australia. Andrew Strauss and Marcus Trescothick will be the openers for England.

Strauss and Trescothick got the ball moving for England early. Both hitting boundaries and both making the singles. It was working well for England in the beginning. Strauss was 1st to be dismissed. Bowled by Gillespie caught by Gilchrist, Strauss gone on 47.
Captain Michael Vaughan was next in line. And it was the top 3 English batsman, Strauss, Trescothick and Vaughan who started the scoreboard ticking. Just to bad the middle order couldnt keep the ball rolling. With Pietersen gone on 6, and Collingwood made 17. But Andrew Flintoff got things going again, but couldnt dominate a big enough score to trouble the Aussies. Flintoff charged at Symonds, and missed it, Gilchrist stumped.

England set to take to the Crease

English opening batsmen Andrew Strauss and Marcus Trescothick got a massive roar when they stepped foot onto the MCG. The Barmy Army has come alite again. The Army has flocked the MCG for this match against South Africa. It is just like England are back home and playing a match at Lord's there are that many supporters for England in the crowd it's unbelivable. There would be close to 70 thousand fans, all i would expect from England.

Strauss and Trescothick put on a great show early up for England. Strauss not taking any risks like Trescothick was, Strauss was a bit anxious at first, blocking a lot of the balls he faced. But it was his team mate up the other end that got the ball rolling. A four and a six of the 1st over that Trescothick faced, was just a hint, of what was going to happen. Strauss started to find the middle of the bat again, hitting some good boundaries on the on side.

Not only was it boundaries, it was the singles the Poms looked for aswell, Strauss and Trescothick, a great partnership.

England Batting Stats

A. Strauss: st Boucher - b. Pollock - 47
M. Trescothick: run out - 57

South Africa makes the break through, Strauss and Trescothick gone, But Vaughan and Pietersen in

Captain Michael Vaughan entered the area, with alot of confidence that they would win this match. Vaughan hasnt posted good scores so far in the World Series and would want to make a mens in this Innings. Youngster Kevin Pietersen joined him at the crease. It was a good start to their partnership, putting on 20 from just 9 balls. England looked to have control of this match, but it was great fielding from the South Africans which caught Vaughan off guard, and was stumped. Vaughan gone for 12, Solanki enters the crease.

Michael Vaughan wasnt in the crease for long, only hitting 12, was run out with great throwing from South Africa

England now in a bit of trouble....

England are now in a bit of trouble, with Strauss, Trescothick, Vaughan and now Pietersen gone. Vaughan was run out on 12, and Pietersen was a victim of great bowling from Nel, and caught by Dippenar, Pietersen gone for 26.
England struggled from then on in, even Flintoff couldnt post a massive score to brighten up the Scoreboard. And so this is what the final score sheet looked like for England

A. Strauss: st Boucher - b. Pollock - 47
M. Trescothick: run out - 57
M. Vaughan: run out - 12
K. Pietersen: c. Dippenar - b. Nel - 26
V. Solanki: b. Nintini - 10
A. Flintoff: b. Nintini - 12

Extra's: 6
Total: all out after 43.1 overs: 205

South Africa needs 206 off 50 overs to win the match.

South Africa, can they hunt down the Poms

South Africa wasnt chasing an overly massive score in the end posted by England. England posted 205, a respectable effort, but was hoping for around 250-260 atleast, which would of been hard to chase down. But 205 has left the match evenly balanced.
H. Gibbs and G. Smith were the openers for South Africa and if these 2 get off to the start they did yesterday, Gibbs 85 and Smith 48, England might be snaring another defeat.
And that was the case. Gibbs and Smith pounded Englands quick bowlers, Harmison, Anderson and Flintoff were smashed around the park.

Gibbscuts.jpg

Gibbs cuts for 4

Can England's spin take out a partnership of 132?
It came down to Ashley Giles who had to face the Partnership of Gibbs and Smith who at this point put on a 132 run partnership. Gibbs 74 and Smith 58. Giles finally made the breakthrough grabbing Gibbs, bowled a slower ball then he usually bowls, and Gibbs went to sqaure cut, but was edged and caught by Jones from behind. And not soon after, the next over Flintoff dismissed Smith, being caught by Harmison and silly point. England had got the 2 crucial wickets, but some may have thought it was too late, because alot of the damage has already been done. A 132 partnership of 100 balls. May be too much for England to handle.

But just like England, after the openers were gone, nothing seemed to go right for South Africa. Either that or everything went right for England. Kallis was gone for 14, bowled by Michael Vaughan and caught by James Anderson.

England takes on New Zealand. Top of the Table clash

England vs New Zealand - World Series Match @ Sydney
Day - Normal - Sunny - Warm

England have won the toss and elected to field

England and New Zealand will face off today for the top of the table clash. At the SCG in Sydney, who will take top spot. England have played more games then New Zealand have, but they both has the same number of wins with 2 each. England won the toss, and Michael Vaughan decided to field.

New Zealand got off to a resonable start with Vincent and Sinclair opening the batting for them. Both players making half centuries during their Innings, with Vincent making 52 and Sinclair on 55. James Anderson was consitant with the ball, pitching a perfect line throughout the overs. It was Anderson who made the breakt hrough getting Vincent out on 52 assisting was Michael Vaughan for the catch. And then it was Flintoff's turn, getting Sinclair out, with Gough taking the catch.
Captain Stephen Fleming didnt have much of an Innings, and it was Anderson again, grabbing his 2nd wicket of the match and this time Trescothick being the catcher.
Nathan Astle came in, and asserted himself early. McMillian was handy with a 29, being stumped by Keeper Jones, and Anderson was the bowler again, 3rd wicket of the match. Astle made a very good 42 to help New Zealand to a high score. Michael Vaughan dismissed Astle, lbw.
Marshall and McCullum also helped out the run rate a fair bit, Marshall making 31 bowled by Anderson, 4th wicket of the match. And McCullum made 26, bowled by Vaughan and caught by Flintoff

Ashely Giles had the last overs to bowl, with Flintoff. And did he make the most of it. Ashely Giles finished the Innings off for England, grabbing the last 3 wickets of the game, in the 1 over. Tuffey, Bond and Butler were all gone in the same over. But Giles didnt grab the hattrick. Giles got 2 in a row, the last 2 balls of the game, got 2 wickets.
Michael Vaughan took one of the catches of the series, diving for the ball, before it hit the fence, but got down low enough to catch it before it hit the ground.

England needs to chase down 250, are the good enough?

It was again, Andrew Strauss and Marcus Trescothick who got England rolling. A magnificent Innings by both players. Strauss hitting 58, before he was bowled by Vettori. Fleming thought his quicks werent doing enough to harm Strauss and Trescothick, so he had to bring in Vettori, who picked up the 1st wicket.
Vettori.jpg

D. Vettori bowls, which dismissed Andrew Strauss

Marcus Trescothick was another headache for New Zealand up the other end, making himself valuable, hitting 65 from 44 balls. 4 Sixes were included in that 65. But Butler finally took Trescothick out on 65, and Trescothick got a standing ovation from the fans.
Captain Michael Vaughan was in next, but just facing 1 ball, was out for a Golden Duck, defiiently not a way he wanted to leave the SCG with a Golden Duck to his name.
Again England's middle order, couldnt produce a big enough total to worry New Zealand, so New Zealand are now the ladder leaders. With a win against England.
