World T20 2009 Groups Fixed by the ICC

I don't know why they need to put this out two years before a tournament.

Neither does that.

I don't understand the logic behind putting Zimbabwe and Bangladesh with India.
Perhaps it had something to do with where they finished? Just a hunch.

I don't know why they need to put this out two years before a tournament.
It's like the Rugby World Cup, based on last tournament rather than current/recent results.

They should swap Bangladesh with maybe Sri Lanka or West Indies in group C to make it fair.

Group C will be the best with 3 decent teams involved.

I think Group C is abit weird because they put 3 best teams in it..
it will funny if Austraila cames last in that group
which I am so sure it won't happen.

Same format just different groups? Well Pakistan have an easy group - england and an associate nation.

Why don't they do the T20 every year like CHampions Trophy? It only lasts a couple of weeks anyway.
CT isn't every year, but for the record this tournament is going to be as frequent as CT.

Pakistan grouped with england shud be a cracker.. expect many pakistani fans to invade the stadiums, with horns and flags!! hope they allow them.. it all adds to the atmosphere.

I hope we dont have Ireland in our group!! who then expects a green top against us!

Well of course they would base the seedings using the only international Twenty20 tournament that has been held. The games are not really played frequently enough to determine a ranking so I think it makes sense to use the results from the previous edition.

Also, people seem to be insinuating that India were stuck in an easier group just because ICC are their lap-dogs. This is not the case. The seedings are based on results in the tournament. The top seed always gets the "easier" path to the final. However, we don't know how Bangladesh or Zimbabwe cricket will change over 2 years, though there are signs that the change will be positive.

It is quite a surprise. Why put India with Zimbabwe and Bangladesh? Why not a more challenging group? Strange decision.
It is the same reason that Australia were grouped with Scotland and Netherlands in the 2007 World Cup (2 qualifiers) whereas other groups had just one qualifier.

Well another thing is that the ICC has put a cap on the number of T20 matches played.i.e 7

Only on the basis of 7 matches one cannot decide the ratings, given the explosive and highly unpredictable nature of the game.

So,they have seeded the teams on the basis of the previous tournament.
