World Test Team

Okay then :p

Can anyone statguru me his stats for 2008? He wasn't all that impressive in India, but then again I didn't watch all the games.

Starting January 1st/08 these are his stats.

9 matches, 52 wickets, average 18.5, strike rate 34.4.

I wouldn't call that overrated at all.

Yea, Steyn = best in the world at the moment (Yes, even over Lee. Lee has been shocking in India). Although it could be the other way around in a few years if Sharma keeps going the way he has.

You just have to see Steyn bowl at his peak. Wonderful. Sharma is brilliant as well, but I keep having the feeling he is going to collapse soon, kinda like Irfan did. Steyn has already been down and come back. So I'm waiting for a while before putting Sharma as the best there is for now.
Steyn isn't in India though. Overall Lee is better IMO, but Steyn is definitely in the top 2 pace bowlers.

When did Cricketman say Sharma > Steyn? He just said he felt Steyn was overrated. Why did you have to bring India's favourite player into this? Why couldn't you just say 'Steyn is the best in the world ATM' or 'Steyn > Lee/Harmison/Anderson/Sidebottom/Taylor/Morkel/Asif'. Why the Indian bowler? Cricketman didn't even put Sharma in his best XI, he put Lee and Zaheer. Why do you have to pounce on every opportunity to start a debate against Indians? This is a common thread in most of your posts, you take a harmless statement and somehow turn it into an anti-Indian statement. Cricketman was never comparing Steyn to Sharma, why did you have to reply as though he was?
LOL

I don't know? Because Indians always try overhype their cricketers as if they are better then anyone else?

Why does it concern you anyway? If you don't like what I post then don't read. I thought it would be pretty simple, even for a little weird 12 year old kid.

Thanks for analysing my posts aswell, BTW. I don't bother with your posts so that just makes me > you. ;)

So you brought in an Indian player becuase you dislike Indians, and it had nothing to do with the discussion? So you deliberatly wanted to start and India vs. Aus discussion even though no one had brought it up? So this is the theme running through all your posts, 'I don't like Indians so I'll annoy them at every given chance.'?

Brilliant.

I know. Poor Lee. Steyn wasn't so hot in India either. Lee should be number one, and form excluded he is, but I don't think Lee as he is now with his broken form is as much a threat as Steyn. But they both are excellent, very fun to watch...

I think that the pitches that Steyn played on in India were allot better for fast bowlers than the ones Lee is getting at the moment.

Well Ishant and Zaheer took zero wickets between them last test so....

I hadn't noticed that actually. They did go 48 overs between them for no wickets, while Lee, Watson, and Johnson shared 5 wickets in 82 overs. Interesting. Apparently according to Cricinfo, Zaheer and Ishant did bowl well, but didn't get any breakthroughs.

But throughout the series they have (allegedly, I haven't seen the matches live, just followed them on Cricinfo) swung and seamed the ball, and were successful with reverse swing, while the Aussie bowlers struggled to achieve that. Johnson bowled well, sticking to plans, while Clark was tight, but thats it.

Both Zaheer and Ishant were all over Ponting when it was reverse swinging in the Aussie First Innings, was a credit to Ponting that he actually managed to stick around. Zaheer was particularly impressive. Zaheer and Ishant have been far better with the ball than Lee, Clark and Johnson. You say that Johnson did well, sticking to plans. I disagree, one specific plan that Ponting devised, was to stop Laxman scoring on his leg-side, his most productive area. So, packed the off-side, and asked Johnson to bowl off-side. Well, first ball, was short and on Laxman's pads, Four runs. Next delivery wasn't as short, but still leg-side, Four more. He really does lack the control and accuracy to stick to a captains plans. He's a wicket taker, I'll give him that, but he's been well and truely outbowled by Zaheer and Ishant, even if the wicket tally's don't prove it.

Exactly, I was a little confused when people said he did badly in India because I remember he did very well.

As I remember it, he struggled.

Dhoni, Sehwag (twice), Dravid, Ganguly (twice). 6 top order bats in 3 matches. The rest of his wickets were tailenders, he had Harbhajan like 3 times and Kumble twice. Economy of 3.56. Better than Lee no doubt, but he wasn't at his best.

I had to look that up on Cricinfo, because I remember several times against India where he'd be running in and getting no result. So clearly he was able to wipe out the tail effectively even if he couldn't outdo the main bats a lot.

So Steyn > Lee in India and on current form. He's number one ATM.
