I think it might go all the way to the convention. If the West Wing has taught us anything it's that anything can happen at a convention...
Regarding the Dems in the south, Obama was the first non-southern Dem to win the presidency since before civil rights. As Mark says it's ironic how the Republican party which "destroyed" the south in the war between the states has become the default choice. That said Texas, and Houston in particular, has a lot of Dem strength. Reddest state in the Union? Oklahoma - every single precinct going red in 2008.
Regarding who you should vote for don't rule out Santorum just yet. I read a lovely piece on the Onion yesterday about how people are beginning to realise that it's not just rhetoric with Santorum; he actually means it. Of course he'd get destroyed in the general but there's still enough anti-Romney sentiment to derail the nomination.
The sad thing here for the GOP is that had a heavyweight actually run they probably would have had a great shot at beating Obama. Every member of the field has such high negatives that it's hard to see how he'll lose now.
Maybe you could write in for Rush Limbaugh. I hear that he's very popular right now...
