Zulqy found in UK, announces retirement

What the fearsome tweak. As soon as our team started to perform, ████ like this happens :facepalm. Its unbelievable to say the least.

Yeah who are you reffering to? Haider who has bluntly refused to cheat in spite of threats?

Spot on themer. Lad deserves a pat on his back for courage he has shown. Its one deep hole our cricket is in and we need better people than Butt to fill it up.

But why he left Pakistani cricket? He could reveal it to the ICC, but he didn't really need to quit cricket. Perhaps he was threatened to be murdered?

I think he left because he himself doesn't believe in security in Pakistan, so a threat to him/family would have really shaken him up. Or maybe someone in PCB was involved.

Wow, never thought booking of matches can go to the extent of threats on life.
It might be a case of acceptance of money but obligations not fulfilled.. ?!?

If this life threat makes one of the Pak team players to quit the team and cricket, one wonders of how much nervous energy is there amongst these players ...

This is a very worrying sign. It confirms that no matter what the current situation is, there are match fixers in Pakistan who are so badly behind money that they can issue death threats to players to get their money. Match fixing has deep rooted itself into the system of Pakistan cricket (I am very confident the PCB might be involved in this). ICC - DO SOMETHING! Inspite of all the problems that has happened, this one continues.

I don't understand how you can conclude this from the very little that has happened thus far. If anything it sounds like someone has tried to coerce him into losing the match but he refused and they've issued death threats against him. Why that means the PCB is implicit is beyond me.

Good luck to him, my guess is that he was probably supposed to lose the 4th ODI and he didn't thus the threats.

If that is the case, give him political asylum in the UK

I'd presume that his Visa from earlier in the year has already ran out. Which brings into the question on what grounds is he in the country at the moment? It certainly isn't beyond the realms of possibility that he's seeking asylum here on the grounds he isn't safe to go home and from what I can see he's pretty likely to be accepted. Just reading that Facebook account he's got threats on their for selling out on Pakistan. No idea how they've come to that conclusion.

Critical thinking is largely devoid in that part of the world.

If I was him I'd never go back, settle in England, play county and coach. It will be a much more comfortable and safer life.

He's arrived in London, i'm not sure at which airport, but Sky News were saying a few hours ago that he had landed safely in London.

It's scary that the illegal-bookmakers would go as far as to send death-threats to a player over the fact that he helped his nation win a cricket match that i'm guessing some people had money on them losing.

It goes back to the same old Pakistani situation, they won't be able to play International cricket properly until they begin to get a grip over the whole match-fixing stuff over there, otherwise people won't be able to trust what they're watching.

Its a sad time for Pakistan cricket. Now i guess even players would have to stay in foreign countries for protection.

I believe this runs so far deep, that even an honest man (as it seems Zulqarnain is) who simply is living the dream of playing for his country, cannot get away from the match-fixing problem.

I also believe that the investigation into Bob Woolmer's death must be opened up again, if anything comes up.

Thirdly, this goes as far deep as the PCB, and I say that because Kamran Akmal was not selected, although he is playing domestic cricket, Danish Kaneria has been annulled from the test match squad although he has had excellent figures in domestic cricket this season, and on top of that we have the Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif, and Salman Butt spot-fixing trials to come soon.

All in all, not a pretty picture. I feel sorry for Zulqarnain, because he seems like all he wants is to play for his team and country, and instead he's been forced out to the UK. Although there are a couple of iffy things with him so far as well, such as why would he be talking to Geo News, and why England, where he knows almost no one.

Also, why could he not wait till after the 5th ODI? Seeing as I doubt he would be harmed on the cricket field in front of thousands of spectators, that would for me be the safest place to be ironically. Considering he'd be on the team bus to the ground, and back from the ground, it would seem very safe actually.

Anyway, the Lahore Police has his house under protection, so I think the next step would be to go ahead and get them to the UK as well, for sanity purposes if anything.
