Talent would drain from these countries - particularly West Indies. It's been hard enough for them to keep hold of players since franchise cricket became the prime way to make money. Why would they choose second rate test cricket over other more lucrative opportunities?

With the loss of TV money from not playing the top sides they'd struggle to actually stage the fixtures.

I think two groups is a good idea but with the teams split evenly and with room allowed to play other series.

ICC had float this idea back in the day but India would have been relegated to the bottom teir and
I used to think promotion and relegation would be good. But I think it would accelerate the demise of test cricket and cement it as a contest between 6 teams.

Ha the West Indies test team is already a ‘B’ side as the top players throughout the last decade have been enticed by the IPL and other fast food leagues. Test cricket in nations like these is near extinction already so teir systems perhaps may the only thing to save it. Certainly wont be financially sound obviously and its the main reason why tier systems will never happen.

If Sri Lanka are able to bowl the West Indies out tomorrow it would peak my interest in the next test.

Its amazing Cornwall body stood up to 42 overs, the bloke is like 22 stone or so. I am impressed and admire the guy but not sure how long his body could stand up to 5 day matches over a long series.

I absolutely love the way the Lankans found their way back into this game. I did not expect them to score close to a 500. Excellent batting from debutant Nissanka, he seems to be a great player in the making. I just hope he doesn't fade away like Kusal Mendis. Some belligerent stroke play and confident batting from Dickwella sits well with Nissanka's approach. Thirimanne once again stood there for a long time which was again impressive. Unfortunately for Fernando and Dickwella to miss out on their 100s.

I get a feeling that West Indies are going for a draw win here and they surely can win. They have chased down 395 just a month ago so they would fancy their chances chasing 375 at home. We are in for a great brand of Test Cricket these days and this match could well go down as the one which would reignite Test Cricket in the West Indies.

To the absolute shock of no one, the bloke averaging close to 70 who should have been selected many games ago makes a century. Richly deserved and I hope he goes on to become a key player.

Some interesting cricket, even with two weak team we can enjoy the magic of test cricket still.

Match looks headed for a draw but a decent test, exceeded my expectations. Read somewhere an idiot saying WI can chase down the target, well no miracles today!

Windies have enough wickets in hand, they should try going for the win.

Although Brathwaite's innings suggests they won’t. A little disappointing, but understandable.

It seems you guys need to stay off the T20 format a bit. Yall aint thinking straight at all.

They can show some intent but its too monumental of a task to score so much runs in the last session, what like 190 odd runs? Could make it interesting even more though they risk losing 3 wickets to reckless shots and its game on.

That was a pretty good Test match all around. The balance shifted from day to day, and perhaps the draw was the best result for both teams, although I think the West Indies could have tried to be a bit more aggressive with their batting in the first session. It would have made things a bit interesting if we needed 140 to make in the final session. That's a rate of 4 over the 35 overs, which would have been gettable. It's rapid for a Test match, but in one session that's not unheard of.

I would be that idiot.

But as it stands, I'm satisfied with the result. Sri Lanka bowled very well, there was very little bad balls for the batsmen. They were troubled from time to time, but maybe not as often as Sri Lanka would have really wanted. Lakmal bowled superbly without reward, Chameera had genuine pace, but it was Fernando who I was most impressed with. He looked the most threatening of the three, and that's saying something considering how well the other two were going. It definitely took patient batting from the West Indies, and the mental strength to keep the big shots in check for the most part.

Mayers batted well for his fifty before getting out to a poor shot. Just after tea, that wasn't the sort of thing he should have been doing. But well-played to him. He'll still have that double hundred preceding him everytime he walks out to bat, but at least he's showing that he's capable of getting scores on a consistent basis. Bonner finally getting to his first Test century was just rewards for a man who's been around the team for so many years now without getting picked. (I say finally because even though this was only his sixth innings, he's been with the team for a long time. Always being selected in the overall squad without making the XI until Bangladesh.)

Brathwaite would be very unhappy by the way he got out in both innings. Two uncharacteristic shots from him, the second one looked terrible. He advanced and seemed ready to play the lofted drive before at the last minute deciding to defend. Through the gate, and bowled. Would have probably been stumped otherwise. Not good. Blackwood...well, he just got a great ball. But just like the first innings, it was another of those you-miss-I-hit deliveries. Even without the inside edge (both times) the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps anyways. I'm very disappointed in him, because in England and New Zealand he was showing the more patient side of his game. And today, when patience was most needed, he gave it away. I almost wouldn't have minded if he was out to the same ball both times but playing defensively instead of the aggression he showed.

All to play for in the next match. I think the West Indies have a bit of thinking to do in terms of a couple of players. Sri Lanka really don't need to change a thing.

Which team would be happier with the draw? Hard to tell. Sri Lanka had 4 sessions to bowl the West Indies out and couldn't, despite bowling well. Admittedly the West Indies never really seemed to go for the win. A bit more aggression from them while batting and chances would definitely have come Sri Lanka's way. What the visitors would be happy with is the way their batsmen fought their way back into the game after a poor first innings. Nissanka, Dickwella, Fernando all batted excellently in the second innings, with a contribution from de Silva I think. Their bowlers, Chameera, the other Fernando, and Lakmal did a very good job. I think one of them bowled as much as 50 overs in the entire match, that's a hell of a workload. On the other hand, the home team would have wanted to have Shannon Gabriel more in rhythm and Joseph being more than just a way to get the ball to the other end six times in a row. But they themselves would be happy with the bowling performances of Roach and Holder, and the batting of the newer guys in the team such as Bonner, Mayers, da Silva, Cornwall. So who'd be happier? Probably Sri Lanka.

The teams aside, I think the umpiring was great, at least from what I saw. With the use of a totally home umpiring team, it's good to see that Greg Brathwaite (no relation to Kraigg...or
Carlos, for that matter) did well in his first Test. He's been around a really long time locally and has done quite a few limited overs fixtures, and is one of the better umpires we have around, so I'm glad for him. I also think that the pitch played pretty okay. For a square that has been in use since the start of the year, it's holding up excellently. Just one final match to go.

All to play for in the next one.

Yeah it was an ok test match. Really need to rid of Campbell.

Sri Lanka would be happier after today, but the fightback from Cornwall and Brathwaite kept the West Indies in the game. I don't think being on 99 overnight will faze Brathwaite in any way, he's that type of player. It wasn't exactly a chanceless innings from him, but for the most part it was watchful and he had most things covered.

Mayers was looking great before he got out. That's a couple of 40s for him in this series. He knows how to concentrate and bat for a long time. In what I've seen of him so far, sometimes he tries too much to keep things going.

Blackwood was just about starting to looking good before he got out. Same with Holder and Joseph, although Joseph was terribly unfortunate. That ball was absolutely smashed into the pads, you could plainly see it. But the third umpire thought it was pad first. I think it's because if you take it frame by frame, you can't really see the deflection, but if you speed it up a little it's clear. Then again, da Silva's LBW appeal was overturned on ball tracking, even though that ball had no right being predicted to go past the stumps. That looked plumb. Didn't hurt Sri Lanka much, he didn't make anything of his reprieve.

I sincerely hope by now that the selectors would just stop this Campbell experiment, because it isn't working, hasn't ever worked, and will likely never work for some time to come.

If we can get to, say 320 or so, I'd be happy.

Campbell is playing good (according to his first class stats which is an average of 29). On a serious note though is it they have no other top order batsman better in the Caribbean to replace Campbell.
