England's openers continue in the same vein after tea...

Hutton doffs his cap after reaching his 50, and brings up the 100 at the same time.

England skipper gets lucky, slicing the ball through a vacant third slip....

Australia's bowlers start to cause problems, as Washbrook evades a nasty bouncer (left) and Hutton survives an LBW shout (right).

Loxton gets the breakthrough for Australia! Washbrook edges the ball behind (upper left and centre), then looks to the floor in dissappointment (upper right) ans the fielders celebrate (lower).

Hutton seems unaffected by the loss of his opening partner, crashing a blistering cut through cover point

He then survives a close run out chance...

...but survives until tea, with a comfortable-looking Compton.

Bad news for England shortly after tea as Hutton is bowled, cutting a ball to full for it.

Edrich comes in, and starts well...

...before being trapped LBW.

But, despite losing late wickets, England finish the day in a strong position.

We talk to both captains about their performances:

Len, congratulations on a superb century, pity you lost a few wickets at the end.
Len: Well, lad, if thee'd offered me t'score we'm on at t'start of t'day, I'd have bitten thee 'and off. We're in a strong position, ahnd on the morrow we'll be a-looking to press t'advantage.
Don, England in a strong position at the end of the day, though a few late wickets helped. What do you think your cances are?
Don: Hopefully we'll bowl England out cheaply tomorrow and put pressure on them with our batting.
