BACKGROUND
Sunrisers Hyderabad are all set to host Mumbai Indians in an All-Indian Grand Finale of the Amarnath-Kardar Trophy at a packed Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
Rishabh Pant led Sunrisers Hyderabad to a memorable 6-wicket win with belligerent stroke play against Quetta Gladiators and secured a berth in the final at their backyard.
Hyderabad hosted the first Semi-Final which was played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Quetta Gladiators - an enthralling contest that ended in the last over of the game.
Quetta Gladiators set an intimidating target of 317. Rishabh Pant and Hanuma Vihari added 114 runs in 67 deliveries for the 5th-wicket to complete the chase in the final over.
Quetta Gladiators faced off against Mumbai Indians in the second Semi-Final for a chance at redemption after falling just short at the last hurdle against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Mumbai Indians had beaten Kolkata Knight Riders in convincing fashion in the Wild Card Game to progress to the second Semi-Final which was hosted by Quetta Gladiators.
Avesh Khan and Saqib Mahmood picked-up 3 wickets apiece to blow Kolkata Knight Riders away for a paltry 171 despite Virat Kohli's resilient antics in the Wild Card Game.
172 proved to be of no challenge at all to Rohit Sharma's men as they marched onto the second Semi-Final with a one-sided 9-wicket victory over the men in purple and gold.
Shaheen Afridi was in top form in the second semi-final between Quetta Gladiators and Mumbai Indians - he picked-up 6 wickets to help reduce Mumbai Indians to 254 for 9.
However, Quetta Gladiators' batters crumbled under the pressure and crashed out for a minuscule 154 as Mumbai Indians beat Quetta Gladiators by a hefty 100-run margin.
Sunrisers Hyderabad topped the standings at the end of the league games and qualified for the final with a win in the first Semi-Final, also earning the right to host the final.
Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders and Quetta Gladiators in successive playoffs to reach the final, in games where a loss would've meant an immediate elimination.
All that stands between the two franchises is each other. Both teams have had contrasting but nonetheless stellar seasons. It has all come down to one game in Hyderabad.
