2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup - Australia

Controversial Question coming up - please only answer if you can keep the conversation civil and constructive.

Been reading a lot about India vs Bangladesh game and based on what Nasser Hussain said - Do you (Indian Supporters) feel that umpiring decision goes in your favor more due to the size of the BCCI and the power they wield in cricket? Additionally, the pressure that umpires must have when adjourning against the likes of Kohli?

Are you sure? Because, England and Ireland never played a Test match against each other since July 2019!

Time flies - yeah just looked it up it was 2019! Got England out for 85 in the first innings but collapsed in the chase for 35 odd in the second innings

No, I do not think umpires are under any pressure. BCCI has been powerful for a long time now, why are we talking about it now? We have had many decisions go wrong our way too and people do not complain when they win right? General human tendency.

Instead of blaming BCCI for everything, train your umpires better, invest in better technology and see how game changes.

I think a lot of high-profile players, Kohli or not, might get a little unconscious bias in most sports.
The majority of Irish players have decent exposure within the English domestic structure - it's just the lack of international-level games that holds them back. I mean I remember the 2011 WC upset they did to England was legendary - and they almost pulled off a Test match against them last year. Players like Paul Stirling never get the accolades they deserve but could honestly walk in to most T20 XI's
A lot of the Dutch and Scottish players too.

Ireland are a test nation only in name. My own controversial take is that they’ve benefited heavily from the funding a full member gets to only play white ball games like other associates with increased exposure whilst the latter receive a fraction of what they do.

As for the latter, it’s not due to BCCI’s money or power as much as social media believes it to be. To insinuate so is quite funny and naïve. There have been plenty of decisions against the Indian side too, difference is that our fans usually are too busy blaming the side for losing than complaining about the officiating as it is more drama worthy to do the former.

Fan pressure is a real influence on match officials as shown in football and Indian fans do usually make up a lot of the crowd and there might be an effect there. Additionally as @wasteyouryouth points out the bigger profile players have a tendency to get things their way more often and it isn’t just limited to Kohli. Seen it happen with Ponting, Dhoni and many more.

It’s funny that this has been brought up with Bangladesh game though. Had it been India who were chasing everyone would be claiming how easy it would be to bat in the second innings with the fielding side struggling on a wet outfield and bowlers struggling to bowl accurately. India were just fired up in a manner I haven’t seen them in a while due to the threat of being knocked out and they gave a very good performance owing to that.

To also add to this, there has been a very prominent media driven narrative that I’m noticing recently. Bangladesh have been portrayed as this ‘underdog that always whines’, India as the ‘giant that always gets 50/50 decisions in their favour and Pakistan as the ‘we will always find a bone to pick with’. They all seem to be done just for the sake of publicity and internet traffic and I’m surprised that so many are taking the bait recently here.

EDIT - also see England with the ‘custodians of spirit or cricket’, SA with the ‘Bavuma is only a quota pick’, West Indies with the ‘cricket is dead here’ narrative and so on.

I think Ireland and Afghanistan have pointed out (or I've seen someone point it out) that since they became test playing nations they've found it more difficult because the subsidies aren't as beneficial relative to what you are required to do as a full member. When you're hosting more high profile matches the costs go up. A lot of the cricket played by associates is probably funded by the ICC in tri-series or multi-team events. Ireland would love to play more test cricket but they can't afford it, the matches they've hosted this summer have probably been more because of the ODI Super League.

I think it would be good to grant ODI status to all international 50 overs matches at this point. It might help save the format somewhat, particularly going forward into the more expanded World Cup in a few years if it had a more cohesive qualification pathway. I could see that being more beneficial to cricket than just continuing to hand out temporary ODI status and I can't see them granting full-member status to anyone else.

Obviously match officials are pressured when making a decision that goes against India. We can look from far back as the early 2000s when Sachin was called up for ball tampering in SA how the backlash was for the match referee etc, it got so bad that India almost pulled out of the SA tour.

Had it been the other way around in the Bang/India match recently we wouldve been seeing numerous posts from the Indians and their media on this board and elsewhere worse than the Bangladeshi media, and history proves this.

Some one posted on further training for umpires, whilst this may serve a temporary plaster the fact remains that we have a superpower in cricket and you cant solely blame the umpires they are humans at the end of the day.

Guys like @Bevab still using the victim card to defend the the continued nonsensical diatribe coming out of India is just sickening, India are the only super power in cricket how can they be the victim?

When Australia were at the top of the world cricket and many questionable decisions went their way many Indians on this board showed them up for it, now India are todays Australia!

Lastly it is my belief that in some cases match officials are bribed before hand and during the game to have favour with a particular team. This is the trend in other sports and may very be likely in cricket too. This thing runs deep and my personal thoughts are well documented on the questionable approach of India over the years and it goes straight to back to the 1983 world cup final when you had a weak side triumph probably the strongest ODI team of any era.

Lets face it the billion plus in India was always the raw fuel for the future, the powers at the time in the 70s knew it then and put things in place. Sometimes I sit back and see the joy in those fans that squeeze into Eden gardens or the many rural villages watching Sachin score a century or youngster Arshdeep bowling his heart out on a single set and cant help but to be happy that India are winning. Sadly this is how all institutions in the world runs and to think that cricket is different just naive and hopeful.

@Ahmad94 I apologize if I couldnt be civil enough.

I would be very surprised if somehow India wins the semis and then somehow managed to lift the silverware.

Reason - we are just banking on Kohli, SKY and Arshdeep to perform rest are just below average this tournament. Shami looked good in patches, Bhuvi is just an ordinary bowler his whole life nothing different, Ashwin in spin department is mediocre in Limited overs cricket.

Pandya is overrated as always, Rohit is patchy, messy & fatty, Kannaur Lokesh Rahul is shit as always , DK his whole international is like makes a comeback by performing in IPL and domestics fails in International & gets dropped again.

Now tell me how is this team even looking like winning the trophy.

And barring all that a couple of bad umpiring decision to aid us two wins in the tournament.

I’ve read some tripe but this has to be the most pathetic post I’ve ever encountered. No surprises it is from you lol.

Where have I even defended the Indian side or called them the victim? Care to point out where the history is of Indian fans crying on this board recently? As per your own admission the number of games you’ve actually watched can be counted on one hand and yet you claim of a history of victimhood exhibited here. Can’t always make shite up like you do as that requires special intellect indeed.

There’s no strong side in this tournament here to be honest. Australia absolutely squandered their chances by mismanaging their side internally, England’s arguably sabotaged their chances too by calling Hales and Stokes back, South Africa still have batting depth issues alongside inconsistent batting.

New Zealand funnily enough look to be the most settled side and they’re sticking by their out of form guys in Sodhi, Lockie, Neesham and Kane in the hopes of them coming good in crunch time. Maybe that will reward them finally with a WC win. Can also see the @CerealKiller logic of India just riding the lucky charm and winning the trophy.

How does number of games I’ve watched equate to posts on this board? So you make a post or Mr Whitehorn for that matter will make a post on this board based on wether or not Untouchables watch the last Indian tour of Australia?

Exactly where in my post I mentioned ‘Indian fans crying’. Seems youre the one making up things, either you lack the decorum and ability to post on my level or youre just making things up.

Either way I wont lower myself to your uncivilized posting, continue calling me pathetic, shit stirrer etc. Just feel sad for you.
