It's been evident that India haven't been good enough in Powerplays, both batting and bowling apart from a few occasions. On the batting front, it's obvious Prithvi Shaw needs to come in. Up till now it looks like KL has a mental block where he can't resist playing an anchor role and playing freely which he's done before. Rohit for a while has been struggling to get a quick start.
The selection of Ashwin made the least sense, espacially playing alongside Axar. Both guys cut from the same cloth basically, aren't wicket takers but keep a lid on the scoring which is all great unless the pace bowlers can't get wickets. Most teams have an attacking leggie, which probably would've added more depth to India's bowling attack if they played Chahal.
As for the pace bowlers, Shami did really well to cover for Bumrah for the most part, despite not having played any T20I's prior to the WC. Would like to see Deepak Chahar if he brings the same form he's had in the last few years, would be a big boost to India's powerplay bowling. Bhuvi just hasn't been the same ever since his injury long ago, been inconsistent and not paticularly threatening with the new ball. Ideally, an attack of three quicks in Bumrah, Chahar, Arshdeep and two spinners in Chahal and Axar/Jaddu would be a solid attack for the 2024 T20 WC.
In a way, Harshal Patel's selection for the WC squad forced India to go defensive and pick both Axar and Ashwin in the XI. In hindsight, Deepak Chahar offers a lot more than Harshal based on the fact that Arshdeep has been pretty good at the death and Bhuvi's form has been inconsistent. Puzzling that Harshal was even picked, given his success mainly relied on slower balls on slower pitches, where the pitches for the Super 12 games didn't seem that way.
