England lost by 69 runs:eyesrolling:

Please don't turn this in a Facebook comment section.

Kenya beating the West Indies in 96 has to be the greatest upset of all time in ODI WC history.

You're rating that higher than Ireland beating England in 2011. With Kev O'Brian's century! That's an upset for the poster.

Pakistan's coach said that part of the loss was down to dil dil Pakistan not playing?

I think he is saying that the crowd was basically 100% Indian due to the visa issues and the game felt more like a BCCI set-up bilateral series than a WC game (where you would expect 50%/50% crowds like if the games were played in another country).

But honestly, he hasn't been in Pakistan for 6 months - nor travelling with the team except the WC. He is taking 2 fat paychecks from Derbyshire and now PCB - the only thing he should be blaming is himself!

There is a lot to pick apart from a Pakistan perspective - but I don't see a change in the game plan from them. I hope I am proven wrong.

Dunno about other countries but during that SF in 2015 - SCG was 70% blue!

Were English fans banned, apart from one or two lucky ones?

Utter nonsense. The point was to highlight Pakistani fans' systematic exclusion, despite the BCCI's assurances to the PCB since a couple years. He never blamed the defeat on that.

Absolutely, all English fans were banned for playing poor cricket. Alastair cook and Kp their best batsman did not even make the XI, so blame BCCI.

Hope you guys get to host CT2025 and India does come there so you get your revenge. Not that many would apply for Pakistani visa as fans but hoping you guys ban all media.

I would also say, ban Indian team completely if they dont show up. Play without India.

This isn’t the biggest upset in WC history like some are claiming to be on social media. Afghanistan are a test nation playing in conditions that suit their side and have some quality players. They were up against the defending champions but this version of England doesn’t seem to be in full flow yet. The only reason why it’s being talked about as a massive upset is because Afghanistan heavily underperformed in the last WC which you could put down to their drama around Shahzad, poor leadership and a comparative lack of experience. They didn’t even have to go through the qualifiers for this event.

Having said all of that it still is an upset and I’m glad we finally got a proper one after 2019 barely gave us anything (think one Bangladeshi game and West Indies beating Pakistan were the only ones).

No, we'll do better

So where is Ben Stokes who took Roys spot? England’s obsession with him has been so annoying. Yes he is a great player but if he is not going to be in your XI, why take a spot from my sweet little Roy?

Stokes didn’t take Roy’s spot. Brook did. Stokes and Roy were both in the initial squad.

But if Stokes did not decide to come back, Brook would have been initial squad and Roy would also be in the squad.

The reasoning they had for dropping Roy was that he was injured. It seems ironic on the back of Stokes’ continued non-availability due to injury while they asked Roy to play in that series against Ireland (which he obviously turned down). I don’t think Roy’s axing is as simple as it seems in all honesty. Feels like a mixture of his poor fitness, form and some level of falling out with someone in the ECB or the setup given he was making noises about wanting to play in the MLC.

I dont think Roy was discarded due to injury tbh- it doesnt make sense to ask him to turn up for the Irish series, if he was dropped from the CWC23 squad. Like its been mentioned above, I think the noise surrounding his muti year franchisee deal would have titled the scales in the favour of Harry Brook.

As for Ben Stokes- I dont know why he is in India tbh! Carrying him as a liability in a tournament where the rest haven't shown much zing seems a bit weird. I am sure Stokes isn't injured and that they are wanting to rest him as much as they can. But, these losses could rankle them and their efforts in reaching the semis.

I believe England's game vs Australia will set the tone for either team. It will almost come as the KO blow to whichever team that loses. not gunning for the Aussies to lose, but if Australia does slip up there, don't think they are in with a chance of making the Final 4.

India, New Zealand, South Africa and "Someone" will make up the Final 4- If the Afghans do spring a few more surprises here and there (Chennai) it might make for some interesting viewing.

Shouldn't it have been Matthew Mott making the statement instead?

I just watched the highlights and that was a dominating performance, Afghanistan has been knocking hard in the last year or so. The almost victory against Pakistan in that bilateral, the absolute brain fade moment against Sri Lanka in that calculation and winning it in Asia Cup, scoring a solid 280 against the Indian side who has bowled out Australia and Pakistan for less then 200, had a horrible game against Bangladesh who are similar in strength as them so that was a missed opportunity and this game.

This was in no ways a major upset, last world cup probably would be but not this. They are strong, they have competed well and they are in familiar territory.

If they can win few more and have a good chance against Netherlands, Sri Lanka, they can call this a successful campaign.
