I don't understand the hue and cry about the crowds at the opener. It is a weekday working day. A stadium of that size, does it really need to be 75% full?

What about matches during CWC 2015 in Australia? Were stadiums full for those? Those who are crying over it, I bet you anything we will have similar turnouts in Sri Lanka 2026 and Pakistan 2025 as well.

It is being developed as a multi sport facility ,with an eye on the 2036 Olympics. Honestly, sometimes I feel our own people lambast our country way too much.
Really silly take

No one is criticizing the country. Criticizing shitty decision making by the cricket board under political influence is not a critique of the country. We all know why Namo stadium was selected for the opening match (the answer is in the sentence). Otherwise anyone with even half a brain would know this was a terrible idea to begin with.

And yes, the Cricket World Cup opener is a marquee event. The stadium should be atleast 75% packed which you would have gotten in smaller capacity stadiums in cities with a more passionate cricketing culture

Baby Shah's handling of the event has been utterly shambolic. India Pakistan sells itself, else I am sure he would have messed that up as well

I dont know why we are still arguing, BCCI with Say Jhah at realms is in shambles. The organization of this WC is downright pathetic and shameful, from late schedules to ticketing fiasco, nothing about this cup has made sense.

No point further criticizing them as they clearly dont care just like how BA dont care about their cricket games anymore. BCCI = BA

What did i do bruh, there’s literally a billion people for "nazar" (to cause bad luck)
You were the one saying apart from India every other country is suffering, now we are even!

Looks like our luck has finally run out. Dengue is also not an easy condition to make a full recovery from in a short time period.

It does mean we’ll get Kishan opening and Shreyas playing.

Do a retake, most of the non India members and some Indians are quick to jump their guns and shout their mouths off.

What most of them do not understand is:
  • It is a working day and one cannot expect a match between England and New Zealand to be packed unless it is a World Cup final
  • The walk from the main gate to the actual seating at the Namo Stadium is almost 1 km long
  • We have multiple security check points at every juncture
  • Instead of blaming the BCCI, blame the ICC for not starting the World Cup with a match featuring the hosts.(They reverted to 1996 which was incidentally NZ vEng at the Motera)
Questions about why Namo Stadium? I don't think we can answer those. The actual capacity is 132,000. I bet you ,even if the games were held in another city, the stadiums would have only been half full.

I think most people are asking:

Why start on a working day? And if you do start on a working day - why start in the biggest stadium, in what people are saying is not a strong cricket loving city, with two overseas teams
BCCI = ICC ICC = BCCI

Honestly all the points you made just sound like bad planning on BCCI's part.

Why have it on a working day ? Why have it in a stadium you can't even fill 50%. I mean we know why, but it's just prioritising one stadium over others for political reasons rather than thinking about logistics.

The other major stadiums in the main cities range from 30-50k right. You could easily fill those up to 75% atleast. Most of those stadiums like Wankhede and Eden and Chinaswamy actually have a rich history associated as well which lifts Also Like I said, Gujarat is not the best place when it comes to cricket fans rather than Indian cricket fans. You will find more passionate cricket lovers in other cities who are willing to shell out their money rather than filling stadiums by distributing free passes and lunches (and even then they don't show up)

Just poor planning all around. And the real sad part is people are going to use this tepid response as another nail in the coffin for ODI cricket. You are not realising the harm this shoddiness has caused to the game itself
