I mean that'd be true in Ahmedabad too, the bilateral series vs England was sold out even when COVID was rampant
Its a Thursday during working hours, I think every city in India would struggle to sell out a 100k seater stadium for a match where India isnt even playing.
I'm not disagreeing with the sentiment here, but I dont think the low attendance is a sign of ODIs or cricket dying which has been shared widely
OR... OR... ODI's are truly dead. Like I got up at 4, went to work, came back at lunch and the match just finished. Would have seen 2 T20's complete in that same time frame. ODI WC is stupid and dead! SAy Jhah should erradicate it.

People are not interested spending 10 hours a day counting travel and prep for a match that did not even belong to home country.

I don't understand the hue and cry about the crowds at the opener. It is a weekday working day. A stadium of that size, does it really need to be 75% full?
What about matches during CWC 2015 in Australia? Were stadiums full for those? Those who are crying over it, I bet you anything we will have similar turnouts in Sri Lanka 2026 and Pakistan 2025 as well.

It is being developed as a multi sport facility ,with an eye on the 2036 Olympics. Honestly, sometimes I feel our own people lambast our country way too much.
Why did they pick Ahmedabad for the WC opener if it has to be the finalists of the previous edition? Or why did they start the tournament on a weekdays when it has to be started with the finalists of last year?Could have started it at Wankhede if weekday. The game would have truly been full and no need to have promised free food and lied about it being an India-Pakistan match. Ahmedabad still has the India-Pakistan game and the final. Could've given Wankhede the glory since it hosted India's WC triumph in the final in 2011. At 40k odd capacity, Wankhede would've looked full throughout.
Or started this WC on a weekend if it has to be Ahmedabad. I still this option is not as sound as I am not sure Ahmedabadis come out voluntarily for non-India games, but a weekend may have enticed them.
I don't have problems with Ahmedabad being the capacity it is.
Hate? No man! I still follow international cricket and check the scores. Just my passion of those days (most of my passion years went spent in this forum; so this forum knows) has gone down.
The last 4 World Cups were won by the team whose batter scored the first century of the tournament.
The last 3 World Cups were won by the home team.
One of these streaks will end.
