It is a working day and one cannot expect a match between England and New Zealand to be packed unless it is a World Cup final
Why is the opening match England-NZ on a Thursday?
  • The walk from the main gate to the actual seating at the Namo Stadium is almost 1 km long
  • We have multiple security check points at every juncture
Why does a pet project of the PM have such bad infrastructure? Including the roof that throws rainwater onto spectators, and the exits that are crammed for a couple hours after sold out matches?
Instead of blaming the BCCI, blame the ICC for not starting the World Cup with a match featuring the hosts.(They reverted to 1996 which was incidentally NZ vEng at the Motera)
BCCI dictates to the ICC what happens, not the other way around.

And yes, since the BCCI is completely controlled by BJP, i will blame them for this farce. Doesn't mean i am hating on India the country.

Why start on a working day? And if you do start on a working day - why start in the biggest stadium, in what people are saying is not a strong cricket loving city, with two overseas teams
BCCI = ICC ICC = BCCI

30th May 2019, Thursday
13th March 2007, Tuesday* (I mentioned Saturday by mistake earlier)

Start dates of the 2019 and 2007 World Cups. What I have frequently noticed is @wasteyouryouth @CerealKiller tend to jump the gun on the BCCI each and every time. Agree, there have been some comedic errors in the lead up to the World Cup, but to keep blaming our board and country is just not on. @Bevab siding and running the tirade doesnt help either.

Why is the opening match England-NZ on a Thursday?
Ask the ICC + the fact that the above mentioned 2 World Cups (neither of which were hosted by the BCCI) started on weekdays should serve as an example.

I do not think that the 1km walk is a point that can accumulate towards poor infra. What you have mentioned, certainly amounts to it. You would find a few stadiums in India with leakage concerns here and there as well.

The entry exits are crammed due to security arrangements. I am pretty sure any other sub-continental nation has similar security arrangements. Mind you, these are prevalent for every IPL, bilateral and Test match held in India as well.

I cannot help if the ICC and other boards are spineless in this regard. This was my defence when the extra day was added to the Ind v Pak game during the Asia Cup (to which BCB and SLC merely nodded their heads)

As for the BCCI being controlled by the BJP-it is no secret that the ruling party always has a stake in the BCCI. During the previous regime too, Sharad Pawar was the Chairman of the Board.

Anyhow, I sincerely feel that the above mentioned members ought to tone down a bit against the BCCI and India in general. It will only take few bits of research to turn the table onto your respective nations as well.

Both matches featured with the host team.

Don't know about Jamaica, to be honest, but Saturday would be considered a day off in England.

Honestly all the points you made just sound like bad planning on BCCI's part.
I still don't get how the BCCI is at fault here? From my sources in IMG, the ICC is responsible for the logistics whenever it comes to any event hosted by them.
Why have it on a working day ? Why have it in a stadium you can't even fill 50%. I mean we know why, but it's just prioritising one stadium over others for political reasons rather than thinking about logistics.
Why won't this question prop up in the succeeding matches at Ahmedabad? Just cause it is the opening game?

The other major stadiums in the main cities range from 30-50k right. You could easily fill those up to 75% atleast. Most of those stadiums like Wankhede and Eden and Chinaswamy actually have a rich history associated as well which lifts Also Like I said, Gujarat is not the best place when it comes to cricket fans rather than Indian cricket fans. You will find more passionate cricket lovers in other cities who are willing to shell out their money rather than filling stadiums by distributing free passes and lunches (and even then they don't show up)
The reason why Ahmedabad is a 100,000 plus stadium is cause they are shaping the city up to bid for the Olympics. Per the plans, the Motera will be a multi purpose facility with an eye on it in 2036. Agree, it lacks cricketing heritage and also agree that it didn't deserve to host the Finals. However, for media to simply bring one point into play doens't make sense at all.

It is like being at the opening game of the Qatar World Cup- where despite good facilities all that every one was interested in was the human rights in Qatar.

Just poor planning all around. And the real sad part is people are going to use this tepid response as another nail in the coffin for ODI cricket. You are not realising the harm this shoddiness has caused to the game itself

How? I'd agree with this statement if the same scenario is repeated for the KO's+Final. But, not now!

Pakistan vs South Africa game in Chennai is almost sold out and I am able to get tickets only for this match.

if they gave free pass in Chennai, no matter what is the temperature, every game will be house full lol.

My bad, it was a Tuesday!

And you are right in saying that the host country has played in all openers since 1996

If the ICC is responsible how come this tournament, so far, resembles the Asia Cup more than, say, the 2019 and 2015 World Cups where fixtures and tickets were on sale a year in advance?

Again, does it say the BCCI World Cup? No!

This is a question that needs to be asked to the ICC as they themselves are responsible for this havoc. I honestly do not care about their relationship with the individual boards, but the fact that they gloat about putting their name on the trophy/tournament means they are 100% responsible for whatever goes on.

The host nation will be responsible for making arrangements. All the ICC will do is exert enough pressure to gets tax breaks (something the BCCI specialise in). In this instance the man in charge of both organisations is the same. So he's basically marking his own homework.

Fixtures, locations, logistics are discussed at the ICC with their sports management company. I understand you feel you have the correct info and intend to stick to it. By all means, please do.

As for your hatred to BCCI and Shah- Keep Blaming and Hating then...! Tables will turn soon enough!

I have no idea why you’ve suddenly taken offence to valid criticisms from individuals (including fellow countrymen) personally and interpreted it as an attack on the country. The BCCI isn’t even a government organisation, it’s a private one. How is blaming it for very legitimate reasons supposed to be criticising the country especiallt when @CerealKiller has even said it is not his intention?

I’ve not even been really critical on this issue. I’m not sure why I’m tagged in here as a cheerleader when I’ve pointed out some of the reasons you’ve mentioned as valid ones for the stadium not being full.

The rest of the post and the subsequent follow-up is just… not it. Absolving the BCCI of blame when they hold such a controlling stake in the ICC and have also been quite poor before the event in the organising part is incredibly naïve. Given what you’ve said at the end of the post… I don’t think it’s going to lead to any sort of fruitful discussion so I’m refraining further from this.

Thought I'd learned this lesson after the WCQ. But Icyman posts are like the mob.
