2025 ICC Champions Trophy - General Discussions

The Pakistan Tri-Series seems more exciting than the forthcoming ICC CT. If the tri-series pitches are anything to go by, we are in for a tournament with flat tracks(bar the marshlands in Dubai). Expect high scores to be chased down with relative ease, a couple of 400s here and there, not much in it for the bowlers.

Despite being knocked out of the tri-series, I would place my bets on South Africa to do well. This has been a side on the rise in all formats over the past few years. They just need to get a few tweaks right and get on a roll. The other contenders for me are New Zealand and India. I cant seem to place the 4th team here- both Australia and England seem out of sorts. Them being clubbed with Afghanistan makes for some interesting viewing, as the Afghans can turn up to spoil the party for someone.

What? Who told you? Starc?
Probably discussed in person with BFF Alyssa Healy :grinning:

Never seen both sides acting more immaturely than before!
I mean, sometimes you gotta stoop to such lows to get back at the level of petty the BCCI is. Besides, they're not coming to Pakistan so it makes all the sense in the world to not hoist their flag in any of the venues.

By that logic BCCI should have not agreed to Pakistan on the Jersey since they are not traveling. Like eye for an eye will make the world blind. BCCI is stupid and arrogant, no need to stoop to their levels and not showing respect to millions of fans who actually wanted to see India in Pakistan like me.

I mean again you do have a point they are not coming so do not hoist the flag but could have slapped BCCI by telling them hey you dont respect us but we do respect the fans, here is the flag.

They probably would have the way they did during the Asia Cup, which they also hijacked, but maybe the ICC is a lot more strict about these trivial things despite BCCI's overwhelming strangle over it, so maybe this time, they just couldn't.

Letting a bully bully you and not standing up to it is not the same as an eye for an eye, chico. Maybe you'd be a lot less critical of the most basic response possible for a team twisting a host nation's arm if said team weren't yours.

The BCCI are, and so are the millions of Indian fans who go to strenuous lengths to defend whatever monstrosity their board comes up with. If the Indian fans feel disrespected, imagine how disrespected the Pakistani fans feel not hosting their first international tournament in nearly 30 years fully in their own country because of that one bratty little kid who threw it's toys out of the pram like they always do.

Such pettiness and bullshit is the least Indian fans and the BCCI deserve after everything they've done with this tournament. If you feel differently, it's probably very obvious why, but there ain't no sane mind who's gonna look at this whole ordeal with impartiality and come to any other conclusion aside from India being in the wrong.

Absolutely zero need to give respect to fans of a team whose board continuously goes out of its way to fukc over precisely one particular country. If the fans don't have the morals to outrage over the wrong their board does over and over to the same nation, they have zero agency when only a part of that wrong is reflected back on their board or their team.

Every ICC tournament- we have a nice little fight amongst the Indian and Pakistani members. Can't do much. If Pakistan chooses to not to hoist the flag, so be it. Get on with what's remaining of the game here.

Well I don't think India should be able to play games in Dubai it makes mockery of this famous tournament

See, I understand Pakistan's POV here. However, this is where you need the ICC to step in and make the decision- either you play in Pakistan or don't play at all. If they choose to keep India out and run the CT, so be it- ofcourse they will have no pay the non-compete and other adherence fees to the BCCI, Broadcasters, sponsors etc. However, if the world wants to avoid petty fights, then the ICC would need to step in.

Lastly, one word on the 'famous' part- I personally believe this filler gap of a tournament ain't special in any which way. It is a mockery of cricket that this CT started off as a pure Knockout in 1998, 2000, got expanded to have 12 teams in subsequent edition and then later got shelved to having the Top 8. It has virtually no standing and I really doubt countries will go gaga about winning this.

Well Pakistan did after hammering India by 180 runs in a one sided final.

Any event which is a multinational tournament which involves countries like India and Pakistan admist all the political scenario especially in a final you will see such outcomes.

After all its an ICC EVENT.

Future of CT could be better defined by keeping it to the Club Level- akin to the Champions League they had back in the day OR going back to straight knock-outs featuring 12/16 teams.

Well well well! Finally standing up! I love it, perhaps a little too late though.
