22 Degrees of David Gower

Ravi Ashwin comes into my team. Played with Sachin Tendulkar who played with Gower.

Finally. So...

Gower played in the 2nd test of the 1990/91 Ashes. A match in which Phil Tufnell made his test debut...

Phil Tufnell also played a 1st class match against Warwickshire in the 2001 County Championship season...

Batting in that game was...

The King of the pretty cover drive. Lord of the beautiful but pointless Test match 25. Nemesis of @blockerdave who I'm pretty sure would never have expected to see him here...

Ian Ronald Bell MBE.

Impressive that mate

Unsure if they ever played against each other, but as stated before Gower played against Sachin and Sachin definitely played with VVS Laxman who in my opinion was the Indian player I most loved to see bat. Gower was one of Laxman's childhood heroes too.

:wi: :bwl: Malcolm Marshall

376 wickets @ 20.94 (22 5WI, best 7/22) in 81 Test matches

Well if bowlers like Malcolm Marshall keep going unpicked we won't ever need to worry about our batting. Absolute cricketing genius taken far too soon.

:aus: :ar: Richie Benaud

2,201 runs @ 24.45 (3 centuries, best 122) and 248 wickets @ 27.03 (16 5WI, best 7/72) in 63 Test matches

My captain, and one of the most overlooked of the great all-rounders (perhaps because he later became so much more famous for his commentary), Richie Benaud was three players in one: a destructive lower middle-order batsman, seemingly transported back from the modern game; a game-changing leg-spinner, and a whole-hearted fielder and leader. The playing link between him and David Gower comes in the form of Ray Illingworth.

My next pick is CLYDE WALCOTT, who played his last match with Gary Sobers, who played with a degree of seperation with David Gower.
