5th Test: England v Australia at The Oval Aug 21-25, 2013

Part Timers ??

Will be a real test for Woakes and Kerrigan when they come back on. Welcome to the Mens Cricket boys..........

----------

Rogers gone.....Into the tail now!:p

That is some horrible batting by Michael Clarke against Broad.

Clarke gone and Watto is on 99 i repeat he is on 99 ;)

Hundred for Watto. The 3 years wait is over , now time for Smith to score his first ever century in test cricket :p

Why did they pick Kerrigan? He's obviously nervous - isn't this why it is a good thing to pick players for a few ODIs/T20s to help them get into international cricket?

To be honest he doesn't always play for Lancs in limited overs as we have Parry and Lilley who are more one day type spinners who bowl quite flat without turning it much. Not sure the selectors could justify that call. Kerrigan's reputation is generally as a championship bowler who gives the ball some air and a rip.

I'm not sure anyone could've anticipated the nerves he's suffered today though. He's had 2 7-fors and a and a 5-for since the start of July so you'd have thought he'd have been fairly confident. As someone who's watched a lot of his career so far it's been tough viewing today. Hopefully things will pick up for his as the match goes on.

Isn't it the same for Woakes - and he got more than a few ODI/T20 starts before today and seems a lot less nervous!

I take your point but it's a little simplistic to say that's purely down to him playing a few ODI's. They might be totally different characters. I don't think you'd ever anticipate a player with Kerrigan's 1st class record going to pieces the way he has today. And if he's bowled like that in an ODI/T20I where batsman would be looking to smash him it might have been even worse!

I think Smith may just get his century, he's played a solid innings, not as aggressive as Watto or as turgid as Rogers but he looks like he is settling down for a long one.

Bound to happen against the likes of Kerrigan and Woake.

We had to give the Aussies a break at some point :p
