Story A New Dimension

Did you pick that team purposefully so they would do rubbish and Moore would get fired?

You never know.. After all, Jaz was the man who dominated with Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka somehow. ( how? :spy ) :p May be Moore follows Jaz 's way... or Jaz made Moore dummy coach. :D ( lol, was kidding ). Good luck:cool:

England v New Zealand

Cricket2007-09-1916-34-05-10.jpg

Looking at the teams i thought about who Peter was playing and I decided that it was quite a strong team. Although I was unhappy about Bruce and Munday but then again with the first game you must really try and pick a mix of experienced pro's and some unexperienced too. As for the New Zealanders they had quite a expected team lineup, although strong , and judging by Englands lower order I think that New Zealand are slight favourites on the bowling pitch.

Although I was right and England did lose, they put up one hell of a fight. Watching the match live I made the assumption that if it wasn't for Vettori then England would of Easily won. In New Zealands innings Simon Jones opened the innings and got Fleming out for a golden duck which helped for a great start and then Fulton went shortley after. Good middle order abtting by McMillan(62) and a quickfire score from Vincent(29) New Zealand reached a score of 203-7.

Going into the England innings England must of been a bit concerned, as on a bowling pitch Peter Moores said he wanted them to try and restrict New Zealand down to 180 at the max which they didn't do. It started poor as Cook fell early going a bit too aggressive for a defensive player but then the matches highest partnership(115) with Marcus Trescothick starting his World Cup off to a flyer as he scored 70 runs off 49 balls including 10 fours. His partner at the time Kevin Pietersen also scored quickly but gave his wicket to Franklin on 48 off 29 balls. England then Collapsed with only Benning Jones and Anderson managing to score over 10 runs from the middle and bottom order. Although you can still take nothing away from the bowling by New Zealand as they completely dominated. Vettori's 4-15 off 7 overs was extraordinary and he got some great dismissals like Flintoff for a 2 ball duck and Loye/Shah for 5/4 respectivaley. The very dramatic thing about New Zealands bowling was Bonds 2-58 and Franklins 2-65 which notched up 123 runs for 4 wickets which was over half of Englands Final Total.

With the Defeat England drop to 3rd after the first game as Kenya take the top spot with New Zealand in 2nd. England will still be favourites for 2nd though with their remaining games against Kenya and Canada Respectivley.

Good game that England should have won. Great bowling by Vettori as usual but surprised at Bond and Franklins. Should beat Kenya and Canada like in real wc though...

Well what a tight game. England bowled very well to restrict the Kiwis. But the batting was poor. They had the overs in hand and should have won that game. Great presentation and detail Jaz. Reps for your hard work :) Keep up the great works!

England v Canada
Cricket2007-09-1918-34-36-92.jpg

Having a glance at both of the teams, even without the Glance I knew that England would be favourites although I was suprised by a few pickings. Seeing Munday in the side I was shocked and also to see Shah aswell. Apart from that it all seemed ok, and the canadian side was as good as it was going to get.

Cricket2007-09-1918-38-02-42.jpg

No upset today on who won as as expected England came up with the trump card as Owais Shah top scored. First of all though the England batting performance came on as England won the toss and decided to bat first. A decent opening as Cook and Trescothick both get settled and start playing some strokes Marcus Trescothick gets caught and bowled by Bhatti for 20. In came Pietersen who made a great partnership of 60 with Alastair Cook before Cook going for a risky second run and getting ran out for 46. Pietersen(35) and Loye(8) soon followed after leaving the score balanced at 119-4. But then cam the fantastic partnership of Owais Shah and Andrew Flintoff. First in was Flintoff and started off playing a few shots but not really going for it whilst at the other end Owais was having a wonderful time playing absolutely beautiful cover drives and even a few pull shots. With both batsmen crossing to their half centuries england ended up on 274-4 respectively after 50 overs. Shah who scored 79 and Flintoff who got 76 both got not out scores and were both tremendous. On the bowling side of things though it wasn't too pretty for the Canadian bowlers as they were desomated out on the pitch as the most economical bowler conceded 4.9 runs an over. Codrington was the best bowler with the innings figures of 54-1 and even a few dropped catches. England batting very convincingly and they looked sure to win.

Next came the Canadians into bat and they just had the worst start possible. In the third over of the game Simon JOnes bowling took his first wicket of the day as he took the bails of Barnett who was trying a shot to big for his boots and he was shortly followed after by his opening partner getting dismissed by James Anderson, also for under 10. Next in was Bagai and his fantastic approach to the game gave the Canadians a bit of hope. With the score on 31-3 though the match looked ended as Bagai and Heaney looked to change things. And so they did with Bagai as the slower strike rate but still getting the runs and Heaney just going for it completely. As they were just getting into their rytham after a 120 run partnership Heaney was run out for 45 by James Anderson's beautiful throw aiming at one stump. Next to go was Dhillon only scoring 10, and with the score on 178-5, Canada really didn't have a chance. Next to go was the big man Bagai as he failed to carry on long after his hundred as he fired a fantastic score of 106. Soon after the tail and lower order collapsed as Anderson and Sidebottom shared the last four wickets with 2 each as Canada crumbled to 190 all out. The pick of the bowlers were James Anderson with his amazing 5-45 and Sidebottom with 2-23, although Simon Jones did get 2-32. Munday,Flintoff and Monty were all dissapointing as James Anderson received Man Of The Match for his great 5fer.

After a great expected win the England team rose to second place and their NRR also shot up. England still looking to qualify but all will rely on how well they do against Kenya, who of course they should beat, but will they?

Comprehensive win for England there. They should beat Kenya in their next game. It was shame for the Canadians as Bagai played wonderfully and was the stand-out batsmen. Great works Jaz. Superb works :)

East win for England there,Huge partnership between shah and Flintoff,Anderson also bowled extreamly well.

England v Kenya
Cricket2007-09-2118-39-01-35.jpg

Looking at both the teams for today's game it is one team which standout and that is England moving the order about. Scott Newman seems to of come in for Alastair Cook whilst Simon Jones is out also, as is Panesar. Loye has also been dropped as Irani,Bruce and Benning take their place. Munday is expected a massive game and Sidebottom needs to perform. As for Kenya not much to speak about apart from some batting depth like Tikolo but nothing which should challenge England by any stretch of the imagination.

Cricket2007-09-2118-50-18-81.jpg

A very very convincing win today by England as they ripped Kenya apart in Batting and in bowling which you don't see England do too often. Firstly to the England innings and what an innings it was. A great start or so it seemed as Newman and Trescothick seemed to be racing away till Marcus Trescothick was caught in front of the wicket for 7(11) off Ongondo. Pietersen who has 35 and 48 to his name in this world cup was looking for another decent score here but he wanted to convert his to a half century at least. On the other hand Newman was playing his debut in the game. As the runs kept coming the 100 partnership was up as was Kevin Pietersen's 50 shortly followed by his Partner's 50. But after a 112 run partnership somebody's bails were of and those bails belonged to Kevin Pietersen as he was going for a lofted shot down the gorund and just played all around it, making his own score of 59(50) As Newman continued to dominate his companions were making decent scores but were not supporting him by staying in for periods of time as Flintoff(22) and Benning(24) both had a strike rate of over hundred. As Shah came in and soonly left for 8 England found themselves suprisingly on 247-5 and looked like crumbling before 300. But as Irani and Bruce both went to Onyango by LBW we were left 257-6. But some great tailenders batting came into play as both Munday and Sidebottom scored 12 and stayed in for period of time but unfortunatly Anderson didn't get a chance to bat. But amazingly whilst this was going on Someone going by the name of Scott Newman went on and scored a humongous individual score of 183(149) including 29 fours and 1 six! The shot of the day though went to the beautifully hit six by... Ryan Sidebottom at the tailend.

Next came Kenya's short innings,so not much writing.:p It started with a great start at that as soon after the begining Obuya(6) had gone and was shortly followed by the other opener Otieno(21) with both opening bowlers, Bruce and Anderson picking up the wickets. Modi(6) and Onyango(7) both went to the pavillion shortly after aswell with Bruce picking up his 2nd wicket, and Sidebottom his first. Tikolo then went as it was obvious Kenya had no chacne as he went for 31 off 40. In came Munday as he took 3 early wickets of Mishra(21), Patel(0) and Odoyo(0) Some great death bowling by sidebottom as well helped England desimate Kenya from 94-4 to 102 all out. Everyone bowled fantastically as Bruce was expensive but got the wickets as he got 2-39 and Anderson 1-16. But the bowling partnership of Munday and Sidebottom may be one to watch as they notched up the figures of 7-47 together, 3-28 for Ryan Sidebottom and a magnificent 4-19 from Michael Munday who was outstdanding. With this England are through.

Finishing with a magnificent Net Run Rate England are through to the Super 8's alongside New Zealand from Group C. New Zealand caught England on a bad day as England totally annihilated both of the associates and should do very well in the super eights.

Awesome stuff by the new guys, especially the surprise pick of Newman. Smashed a poor Kenyan side. Seems the trend in current stories :p

Great game for England. Newman batted superbly. Hopefully with his century today he will cement his place for the Super Eights. Overall a superb performance by Bat and Ball by the Englishman. They thoroughly deserve to go through to the Super Eights alongside New Zealand. Superb presentation Jaz. Let's see if England can do this to the superior teams in the later stages of the tournament ;)

Wow! Thats a big win. Much tougher opposition in the Super Eights though. Great pres btw.

Well firstly I will just do my little bit on the groups on who got through then you will see the long expected and waited table of the super 8's before our first game against... PAKISTAN!

Australia beat Scotland by 5 wickets
South Africa beat Netherlands by 6 wickets
Australia beat Netherlands by 157 runs

Sri Lanka beat Bermuda by 24 runs
India beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets
India beat Bermuda by 117 runs
Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 177 runs
Sri Lanka beat India by 25 runs

Well one massive upset as Bermuda overcame Bangladesh and a big win for Sri Lanka against Bangladesh too as Bangladesh were very dissapointing after being one of the favourites to make the super 8's as underdog's but didn't happen.

Cricket2007-09-2118-50-29-35.jpg

Group C

Kenya beat Canada by 92 runs
New Zealand beat England by 18 runs
England beat Canada by 84 runs
New Zealand beat Kenya by 7 Wickets

Group D

Pakistan beat West Indies by 7 wickets
Ireland beat Zimbabwe by 5 wickets
