The Lions have wrapped up the PC Championship off-season with an emphatic victory over long-time rivals Cricket Geniuses. A great allrounder performance by the legend Ryan Crouch and a brilliant bowling display from Wavell Folkes, along with an unbelievable first over from Lennox Rudi, saw the Lions close the deal in a fine 18 run victory.
After winning the toss -again- Bill Tuckett decided to have a bat first on a flat looking pitch. Cutler and Giddings saw the team off to a good start, till Giddings and Abdeen fell in the same over. Rudi fell early to the suprise of many, scoring just 1, and the Lions were in a tricky situation at 41/3. Cutler and Crouch kept the tempo up and the runs ticking till Cutler fell against the passage of play, recieving a poor decision to end his innings at 33. Gallagher didn't last too long, getting bowled through the gate by allrounder Hoult, and the Geniuses were well and truely on top at 83/5. But Mr.223* walked out, and with Crouch revived the innings in a brisk 83 run partership. However, yet again against the flow of play, skipper Evans Mcdonald struck twice in two balls to get rid of the dangerous Crouch for 64 and Finlayson for a golden. He proceeded then to wipe out the tail, ending with 5/16 as the Lions folded for a meek 176. Whing was left stranded on 31*.
Chasing a mere 177 to win, the Geniuses weren't going to take any risks, and decided to send the two best batsmen in the team -U-19 star Darren Allardyce and talented Australian Curtis Blakemen- to open the innings. Big mistake. Rudi struck with his second ball to remove Darren Allardyce for a duck -something no other bowler had EVER achieved, I think- and then picked up Blakemen just two balls later! Both were clean bowled through the gate, and from that point on, the Geniuses had lost hope. A mini-partership betweet Hume and Hoult was destroyed by Folkes in the tenth over, and Wave proceeded to pick up one more in the same over to reduce to score to 30/4 after 10. All chances for a win had just gone out of the window, as the Lions had roared back and were right on top.
Hoult and Potter proceeded to re-build, keeping in mind all they needed was just under 4 and over. Eli was taken for runs again, as the pair threatened to pull off a great upset. But Tuckett struck in the nick of time, dismissing Hoult, and at 116/5 the match was well poised. Daniell and Potter fought on, with only Devins to come, and somehow had carried to score to 153, a mear 24 runs away from victoy. The Lions were facing a loss, and needed something magical to pull them out of this now.
They got it, in Ryan Crouch yet again. The legendary allrounder trapped Potter plumb in front at the dieing stages of the match to bring the Lions right back into the game. With the last recognised pair standing, all Devins needed to do was to keep his cool and see the team home. He didn't, and missed a wild slog to make it two in the over for Crouch and 153/7! The tail was exposed, and the fiery Folkes returned into the attack to wipe out Brackenbridge, Mcdonald and Barker for a run each as the Geniuses collapsed to 158 all out, the last 5 wickets falling for an incredible 5 runs. Daniell was left stranded on 20*, stunned to silence as he saw his team commit hara-kiri all around him. The Lions won by 18 runs, and now possess bragging rights till the next time the two sides meet. More about the fact that Rudi dismissed Allardyce for a duck than the win.

Ratings:

Nice ratings. Batting looks weak, and his top order should have killed mine, but that one over won me the match. Folkes a good MOTM, although Rudi for that one over and Crouch for another great allround performance were great contenders too. Mcdonald worth a shout too, didn't do much wrong.

Attendance:

Too small. Quite dissapointing, expected more for such a big match.

Join us Friday as the Lions finally have a home game!

You sure do know a lot on my team :)

Its the team which motivated me for battrick :)

That, and very few people participate :p

I have a small suggestion...

How about trying the quiz 2-3 days before itself rather than the day before the match? Say Tuesday's quiz for Friday's game and Friday's quiz for Sunday's match.

I want to make it earlier, but the thing is, it has to be after the preview so that you all have a fair idea who is going to win and stuff.
PS: Come on MSN :)

Chris Gamble admitted to hospital!
Dodgy lobster at local diner cited to be the cause!

Television host and local celebrity Chris Gamble has been admitted to a hosptial after suffering from a serious case of food poisoning. The former TT Lions player was said to have gotten ill after dining on a lobster for lunch at the local eatery Crunch Cusine.
"Chris ordered the day's special, Lobster ala Nucele, only to suffer from indigestion and discomfort in his stomach right after the meal. He was taken to a doctor where he was diagnosed with a serious case of food poisoning."
As a result, Chris Gamble will now be unavailable for his highly popular show "The Daily Lottery", where random people stand the chance to win hundreds of dollars, amongst other shows for a whole week.
"We will be carrying out legal action against the owners of Crunch Cusine, Aufal Nahmed and Nerus, and will file a complaint. Although the condition is nothing too serious, Chris wishes to prevent such further incident from happening to anyone else."

Wednesday's Words of Wisdom
From Shaka Nelson

Hello, welcome to Wednesday's Words of Wisdom, where we give you, the readers, a piece of advice on Battrick every week, delivered by the TT Lion's experienced groudsman, Shaka Nelson. Today's piece of Advice is:

"Take into account the weather when selecting your team. Some cloud cover will help the swing bowlers, while a bright sunny day with no visionary problems is good for the batsmen."

Thank you and join us next week for another Wednesday's Words of Wisdom!
