Welcome To Yorkshire County Cricket Club

Having stared in the academy ever since he was a youngster, Briggs was offered his first contract with Yorkshire at the age of 19 before the beginning of the 2005/2006 season and has been told by David Byas and Yorkshire club captain Craig White that he will be an important player in the coming year for Yorkshire as they look to rebuild themselves as the cricketing power that they once were in England.

Because there have not been many creations as of yet for the game because it is new, at the beginning of the season there may not be many things included, but as the new files are made available, i will add them in due course. Stay tuned for updates and progress on the season which looks set to be an exciting one for the youngster!

Richard Wilkinson said:
Shaun has shown a great mentality through all youth levels of cricket. His representation at age levels from 15 to 18 has been a good one and he has progressed on leaps and bounds since joining the academy. His main strength lies in his batting, with his most recent top score of 187 against a Surrey U18's came up at almost a run a ball. Work still needs to be done on his bowling, however his best bowling figures of 5 for 48 from 14 overs came on a flat pitch against a touring side from South Africa. I am very sure that Shaun will do well in the coming years for Yorkshire, and hopefully England

David Byas said:
I have heard and seen many good things from this young lad, and hopefully this year when he is given his chance, he will take it fully and capitalise on the opportunities that lie ahead for him. Any young cricketer is bound to suffer from nerves, but with a bunch of professionals around him such as Matthew Hoggard and Michael Vaughan, he is bound to be given the courage to make a serious impression on the county scene

Craig White said:
Ive seen Shaun in action a few times in the juniors and he impressed me a lot. His good mentality towards the game and sound technique in both bowling and batting, make him a good all round cricketer that hopefully will be given his chance this year

2005/2006 Season

Yorkshire today announced there squad for the 2005/2006 season, there were very few suprises with the two overseas players Ian Harvey and Phil Jacques in place, and also the inclusion of Shaun Briggs.

The squad looks strong on paper and should put up quite a fight in all forms of the game

Essex vs Yorkshire
At Chelmsford

The opening day of the season kicked off for Yorkshire with a potentially dangerous trip to Essex. Conditions looked formidable as the Yorkshire team inspected the pitch before play kicked off.

After a close look at the pitch, Craig White went back to the pavillion and had a discussion with David Byas and decided on the team. Before play kicked off, the teams were announced for both Essex and Yorkshire.

To his delight, Shaun Briggs was given a debut at Chelmsford, and hopefully he would be looking to make an impression at a difficult ground.

Coin toss to come.....

The Coin Toss
The two captains Irani and White gathered at the crease to flip the coin, Ronnie Irani flipped the coin and Craig White chose heads, the coin landed on a head and Yorkshire had started there season well by winning the toss!

"Were gonna have a bowl" - the words called by Craig White

Both captains shook hands and walked off the pitch together to get prepared for what was going to be a tough game for both sets of players.

Overcast conditions probably swayed Craig White's decision to bowl on the opening day, but as Richie Benaud said:

Richie Benaud said:
Its a risky decision this as batting last on this pitch is going to be extremley difficult

Craig White will be expecting for some early wickets and early swing on this pitch as the players come out for the opening session of play.

The Match From Shaun Briggs View

The Essex innings did not go as planned as Yorkshire would have wanted. Some brilliant batting from first Andy Flower and then Ravinder Bopara guided Essex to a decent score considering the conditions. When rain struck on day 2 Essex declared on 378 for 4, unfortunately though, the rest of day 2 was rained out and Yorkshire had to wait until day 3 to kick start there reply.

Flower and Bopara: Both hit centuries

When Shaun Briggs was called into the attack as the fourth seamer Yorkshire had used, he produced 6 of the livliest overs you will probably ever see on debut, he extracted swing and bounce from the pitch, something only Ian Harvey had managed to do before him! Unfortunately though, these 6 overs were the only overs he bowled in the opening innings as Craig White did not want to over work the youngster on his debut when he had more experienced bowlers to turn to.

S.Briggs 6-2-19-0
1st Over: Quite over to open up with from Briggs, a lot of leaves from Cook, but a sound first over on debut
2nd Over: Andy Flower hooks a short one which just falls short of Richard Dawson but unfortunately goes to the boundary
3rd Over: Cook edges through slip for four, more frustration from the youngster!
4th Over: A bouncer hits Cook on the glove but falls short of any near by catchers
5th Over: More bouncers from Briggs and again nearly more results, Cook is hit on the glove twice in successive balls but again no fielder can get near the ball as they land safe
6th Over: Maiden to end what would be Briggs' final over of the innings

Scorecards After Essex First Innings

Seven bowlers were used by Craig White, Hoggard, Kruis and Dawson all putting in there work load with Kruis and Dawson picking up the only wickets to fall in the innings. Jefferson impressed early on dispensing the ball to all parts, especially Hoggard, but when Kruis tricked him into playing a shot from a slower ball, the ball looped straight into the air and was held easily by McGrath. The LBW was a close call but the umpire just about got it right, and the other two catches were straight regulation catches.

Ok guys BIG problem!!!!!

I saved my game and closed Cricket 2005, and now when i have gone back into it, i loaded up the profile, but my created player had gone and the saved game no where to be seen.

Is this a bug or have i done something wrong!?!?!?!

CORRECTION: Sorry error on my part, only the player cannot be found but i have luckily got the game now and can continue with the story, just i will not be able to use the created player in exhibition matches and such......
