Figures For Shaun Briggs After Game One
statsafter19ax.png

Improvement needed for Briggs in the batting department, but with some good scores in the upcoming games, Briggs' confidence should raise and he should look to get some runs in the bag.

Two wickets at 48's, not bad for a first match but the batting needs to improve....

Thanks for the comments guys, Ive just finished the first half of the second game so ill be posting that up now!

Surrey vs Yorkshire
At The Oval

The opening games of the one day format of the season kicked off with Yorkshire making the journey to the Oval for what was going to be a tough game against the former holders of this trophy from two years back. These two teams will both be fighting for promotion back to division one this year and so whoever wins this one can expect an early boost for the rest of the season.

The conditions were checked beforehand and here were the results.

Overcast and dusty, seemed like a good pitch to have a bowl on and that is exactly what Craig White did when he won the toss. The teams were then announced and there was a one day debut for Shaun Briggs!

One change for Yorkshire from the County Championship game, Tim Bresnan replaces Matthew Hoggard.

Surrey Innings From Shaun Briggs View

Surrey set a formidable score of 207 to win for Yorkshire from 45 overs. The start was slow for Surrey as they failed to make any huge progress and it was only after the 30th over that they really began to rally. As for Shaun Briggs, he should be pretty pleased with his bowling figures from his first game. He picked up the vital wicket of Rikki Clarke who was just starting to get into gear and took a great catch to dismiss Graham Thorpe off the bowling of Richard Dawson.

Shaun Briggs 9-0-46-1
1st Over: Benning hooks Briggs for four, much to the annoyance of Briggs
2nd Over: Benning again takes advantage of more short pitched bowling from Briggs and hooks him for four once more
3rd Over: A better over from Briggs, keeping it very tight and giving very little away
4th Over: Briggs thinks he has taken his first one day wicket when Benning clips one straight to Harvey, but as he turns around he see's the dreaded no ball signal from the umpire. Benning in return smashes Briggs for four from the free hit
5th Over: Thorpe plays and misses a beauty from Briggs, obviously pumped up at bowling at one of England's greats
6th Over: Benning plays and misses this time as Briggs is beginning to bowl better lines
7th Over: Tight over once more from Briggs with only 3 runs coming from it
8th Over: Rikki Clarke is dropped by Harvey and to show how greatful he is smashes the next ball for 6!
9th Over: WICKET! Clarke runs riot in the over before getting too carried away and hitting the ball straight up in the air where Briggs takes a simple caught and bowled chance. The over went 4-6-4-0-0-W

(Note: The bowling kind of messed up during autoplay as Kruis ended up bowling 11 overs and this kinda messed up the look of the bowling figures so i decided not to post it!)

No, he bowled 7 then came out of the attack (which resulted in Kruis bowling the 11 which i take is an autoplay bug) and then came back to bowl the 39th and 41st overs, hence the punishment from Clarke which pretty much made the figures a lot worser than they should have been!

Just about to start the reply now, so hopefully Briggs wont be needed and we can win this one comfortably!!

Victory For Yorkshire In Opening Game!

Yorkshire completed a 4 wicket victory over Surrey in the opening Totesport League Divison 2 game of the season. A brilliant opening stand of 118 set Yorkshire on there way but as the run rate increased so did the wickets lost and it was left to a quick fire 19 from Ian Harvey to guarantee Yorkshire victory. Rikki Clarke completed a fantastic all round game by picking up 3 wickets from his 9 overs but in the end it was not enough to save Surrey from defeat on the opening day.

From Briggs View
Briggs came to the crease above Anthony McGrath in hope that he would get the run rate going a little bit better. He started well hitting a couple of boundaries and some good running between the crease ensured some quick singles were always there for the taking. Briggs showed promise with the bat and even the he was out to Butcher playing across the line, the promise is there with the bat in one day cricket.

Briggs comes out to bat after both openers had been dismissed with no runs added to the 118 they had put on!

Briggs shows no fear against Harbhajan and hits him for 4

Another Briggs-Vaughan partnership on the cards?

Briggs had some loud appeals against him and when he was given out LBW it was to Mark Butcher who had him in trouble a lot of the time, a few of the shouts looked out, can u guess which one was given out from the two below??
