hey Briggsey..do ur best in this season..so that M Vaughan & Eng selctors select you for a Pakistan Tour!!! & then u can post another thread of that tour with ur bowling & batting performance...cheers!!!!!!!

great story! you really game them a thumping in that first innings!

Excellent bowling. Kept it really tight. Though I think it is a bit to early to think about the England team at the moment

Yes I do believe it would take an extraordinary season for Briggs to be even considered for an England call but you never know, Yorkshire might get a game against the touring Australians later on ;)

Somerset Set 264 To Win
At Headingly

Yorkshire declared on day 3 at 83 for 3, setting Somerset a difficult total especially on this pitch of 264 to win. Some quick fire runs were on the menu as Yorkshire looked to set about there business quickly but this was not helped by the early losses of Matthew Wood and Michael Vaughan. Shaun Briggs was promoted to number 4 and gave us all a taste of how explosive he can be with the bat hitting a huge six which went at least 4 or 5 rows back into the stands.

From Briggs View
Shaun Briggs went in at number 4, not to defend but to hit the ball around and get quick runs for Yorkshire. His 25 came from 23 deliveries included a four and a six, and together with Phil Jaques helped Yorkshire to set a modest score for Somerset which you would expect to be defended on this pitch especially after the first innings score from Somerset. Briggs was very explosive in his batting and will hope to be just as explosive with his bowling to help Yorkshire to a first victory of the season.

Yorkshire Complete Comfortable Victory!
At Headingly

Yorkshire wrapped up victory after lunch on day 4 to complete there first county championship victory of the season. The delight was there to be seen, especially on Matthew Hoggard's face as he picked up the final wickets to complete victory for Yorkshire. Somerset's tail hung around and even had the audacity to hit four's and sixes from some of Yorkshire's leading bowlers, but in the end, Yorkshire completed victory by 138 runs.

From Briggs View
Shaun Briggs bowled well in the second innings despite taking some stick at the end of the innings from the slogging tail enders. It seems Briggs has a no ball problem as he bowled 5 no balls in his 7 overs and so needs to control his over stepping a little bit better. A pleasing match though for Briggs and a good winning home debut for him too.

Shaun Briggs 7-0-43-2
1st Spell
1st Over: Tight opening over from Briggs, just a single
2nd Over: Big LBW appeal against Trescothick is turned down, final ball of the over is hammered down the ground by Trescothick in return
3rd Over: WICKET! Briggs hit for 4 by Burns and next ball a big out swinger traps him dead in front, easy decision for the umpire
4th Over: WICKET! Briggs is hit away for another 4 early in the over, but then a fuller ball is hit straight in the air by Blackwell straight into the arms of McGrath
5th Over: Four runs taken from the over
End Of 1st Spell 5-0-27-2
2nd Spell

End of 2nd Spell 2-0-16-0

Stats For Shaun Briggs After Game Two
statsafter28my.jpg

Briggs has improved his stats after game one, but still needs to improve his batting. His bowling at this stage seems fine but a fine tuning of the over stepping problem needs to be sorted.

Yep, at this stage it seems Briggs is more of a bowling all rounder but time will tell if he can start producing with the bat.

Yorkshire vs Somerset
At Headingly

Yorkshire take on Somerset in the Totesport Division 2 game today with Somerset looking to gain some revenge for that mauling they took at Headingly earlier in the week. Yorkshire got off to a winning start in this competition at The Oval last week and will hope to carry the momentum into this game and gain another valuable victory.

The conditions were inspected before the coin toss

Hard pitch so there will be some bounce here but other than that looks good to have a bat on

Graeme Smith has won the toss just like earlier in the week and has decided to have a bat

Bresnan in for Hoggard, Briggs promoted up to number 4, it will be interesting to see how he does today.
