Stats For Shaun Briggs After Game Three
statsafter39wg.jpg

Again the batting is a problem for Briggs, but hopefully he can put in some hard work in the nets and really work on it. Bowling at this point is sound and the no ball problem from the previous game seemed to have dissapeared for this one.

Yorkshire vs Northants
At Headingly

Yorkshire look to continue their good form with victory over struggling Northants at Headingly. The in form bowlers will be key to success over the next couple of days as Yorkshire look to move to the top of the Division Two table and move a step closer back to the top flight. The conditions at Headingly were checked beforehand by both captains.

conditions1zy.jpg

The pitch was green and skies were overcast, pretty decent conditions for swing bowling and you would expect the winner of the coin toss to field first.

toss2oi.jpg

Northans captain David Sales suprised everybody when he announced his team were going to bat first, would this turn out to be a mistake as the game went on? Only time would tell.

Yorkshire keep the same team as their last County Championship game, for Northants, Huggins gets the nod ahead of Shafyat.

Yorkshire On Top As Northants Crumble

Yorkshire are firmly in control of this match as they bowled out Northants on the opening day for a very low 134. David Sales probably regrets chosing to bat first, especially as Yorkshire's bowlers were in top form in conditions which suited them very much.

From Briggs View
Shaun Briggs continued his fine bowling form with a couple more wickets in the Northants first innings. He bowled a supreme line and length throughout his spells and will now be looking to impress for the first time this season with the bat as Yorkshire have a long time to bat.

Shaun Briggs 10-2-25-2
1st Spell
1st Over: WICKETS! Breakthrough's straight away for Briggs as he picks up 2 wickets in 3 balls. First Afzaal is caught LBW in front of the stumps and then 2 balls later a bouncer from Briggs hits Martin Love on the helmet and rebounds onto the stumps, an unlucky dismissal, but they all count!
2nd Over: Briggs is hit away for 4 by Sales
3rd Over: Tight stuff from Briggs, only 2 from it
4th Over: Maiden over from Briggs
5th Over: 3 runs coming from the over
6th Over: Sales edges one over a diving Michael Vaughan at first slip for 4
7th Over: No ball from Briggs, the only runs from the over
End Of Spell 7-1-20-2
2nd Spell
1st Over: Wright is floored by a Briggs bouncer. Maiden over
2nd Over: 1 run from the over, Briggs continuing to keep it tights
3rd Over: Briggs is hit away for 4

It would be nice to see batsmen getting Retired Hurt every once in a great while. The way that ball bounced off his head, it looked mighty painful. Great story thread going there mate, keep it up.

Briggs Reigns Supreme!
At Headingly

Shaun Briggs was celebrating today as he hit his maiden first class century at Headingly. Yorkshire declared on 386/9 with Briggs' knock of 121 coming off just 207 deliveries and was an outstanding effort particularly for someone who looked out of form with the bat. Briggs effort was helped by some very good support, especially from Harvey, White and Blakey down the order who all chipped in with some good scores of their own. Yorkshire will now be looking for an innings victory in this one as they look to bowl out Northants cheaply.

From Briggs View
Briggs played a supreme innings. He knocked the ball around brilliantly and once three figures did come up thats when he begun to start playing some shots that were more worthy of Twenty20. He begun nervously and played and missed at quite a few, but once he got into his stride there looked as if there was no stopping him.

Comfortable Victory For Yorkshire
From Headingly

Yorkshire completed victory today against Northants by an innings margin with over a day to spare. Northants never looked like getting past the margin of Yorkshire's lead and Matthew Hoggard ripped them wide apart taking 5 wickets in a devestating spell of fast bowling which shows why he is an important member of the England team.

Matthew Hoggard: 5 for 61

From Briggs View
Shaun Briggs bowled 9 overs in the Northants second innings and like always, kept his line and lengths just right. A good variation of pace kept the Northants batsmen on there toes, and this variation showed when he bowled captain David Sales with a very good slower delivery. A very good all round performance from Briggs.

Shaun Briggs 9-2-17-1
1st Spell
1st Over: Good start for Briggs, maiden to begin
2nd Over: Sales hammers a length delivery for 4
3rd Over: Tight stuff from Briggs only one coming from the over
4th Over: Misfield from Harvey goes for 4, much to the anoyance of Briggs
5th Over: WICKET! slower ball from Briggs deceives Sales as he plays far too early and watches the ball hit the stumps
6th Over: More tight stuff from Briggs, only one from the over
7th Over: Tight again from Briggs, single from the over
End Of Spell 7-1-15-1
2nd Spell
1st Over: Louw top edges two bouncers from Briggs which both land safe, maiden over
2nd Over: No ball from the over, otherwise tight again
End Of Spell 2-1-2-0
