Durham vs Yorkshire
At Chester-le-Street

Yorkshire travel to the North East for their next game in the Totesport League as they take on a strong looking Durham team. This will probably be one of the more testing games for Yorkshire as on paper both teams look about even, but with Durham having Steve Harmison in their ranks, and Yorkshire preferring not to play Hoggard in Totesport games, Durham may just have the one up on Yorkshire.

The conditions were checked before the coin toss.
conditions5mq.jpg

Conditons looked very good for batting with no cloud cover and the pitch being in good condition. Hussey and White met in the middle for the coin toss.

So Mike Hussey won the toss and unsuprisingly chose to have a bat, Durham will now be looking to post a good total and then let Harmison have a go at the Yorkshire batsmen. The teams were announced soon after the toss.

Yorkshire Bowl Out Durham For 151!

Durham's choice to bat first has back fired as they were bowled out for 151 by Yorkshire today. A great bowling effort from Richard Dawson who picked up 4 wickets restricted Durham to a low score with 6 overs still to spare. Durham will really have to fire in the bowling department now if they are to have any chance of winning the game.

From Briggs View
Another satisfying bowling performance from Shaun Briggs as he picked up 3 wickets in the Durham innings while being economical at the same time. He bowled out his 9 overs despite being taken out of the attack after 6 overs, but when Yorkshire were in need of a wicket he was brought back and he picked up 2.

Shaun Briggs 9-0-34-3

1st Over: Hussey hits Briggs away for 4
2nd Over: Collingwood hits Briggs away for 4 this time
3rd Over: Tighter from Briggs, only a single from the over
4th Over: More tight stuff from Briggs, two from the over this time
5th Over: WICKET! McGrath takes a superb catch to dismiss the dangerous looking Lewis
6th Over: More tight stuff from Briggs to follow his wicket
7th Over: Briggs back into the attack and straight away goes for 6 from the over
8th Over: 6 more from Briggs 8th over as Durham look to pick up some late runs
9th Over: WICKETS! Noffke edges one through to the keeper for Briggs second wicket before the dangerous Mustard hits one straight in the air where Vaughan takes a comfortable catch.

Yorkshire Continue On Their Winning Ways!

Yorkshire's winning ways continued as they picked up a very good victory at Chester-le-Street today against Durham, winning by 5 wickets in the end. The 152 needed to win was knocked off with ease by Yorkshire with another good opening stand by Wood and Jaques who are looking very good at the moment. Jaques good form contiuned, he top score for Yorkshire with 70 while off spinner Breese picked up 3 wickets for Durham.

From Briggs View
It would seem Shaun Briggs is finding batting in the shorter version of the game a lot harder than the longer version, which is not suprising really considering you have less time to get yourself in. Briggs grew frustrated scoring slowly and having to defend a lot and eventually got out trying a reverse sweep which looped straight up in the air and safely into the hands of Lewis.

Stats For Shaun Briggs After Game Four
statsafter49ba.jpg

Briggs form with the bat in the shorter version of the game is still in question and weather he justifies the number four position remains to be seen. His bowling continues to get better and better but if he is not careful, he may start to be seen less of an all rounder and more of a bowler who can bat a bit.

Durham vs Yorkshire
At Chester-le-Street

Yorkshire look to keep up there push for promotion today as they face Durham for the second time in a week. Both teams are near the top of the table and so it will be a big game for both of them and the toss would be an important one to win. Both captains checked out the conditions of the wicket before the game begun.

A dusty pitch, a rareity in England so there would be a lot in this pitch for the spinners, whoever wins the toss is going to have a tough decision to make.

toss9vv.jpg

So, Mike Hussey won the toss and to a few people's suprise decided to bat first, a risky decision but one which also makes sense as batting last on this pitch will be no easy feat! The teams were released soon after the toss and the players made their way onto the pitch

Both teams going with 2 spinners, Young Mark Lawson makes his county championship debut after being touted as a future England prospect by many whom have seen him play.

Collingwood Dominates As Yorkshire Struggle
At Chester-le-Street

Paul Collingwood hit a century for Durham as they posted 379 for 8 after declaring on day two. His century was well supported by Mike Hussey and Dale Benkenstein who both contributed good scores in what was a good day and a bit for Durham. The spinners got a lot of turn from the pitch which was shown by Dawson's 3 wickets, and this turn will only get better as the time passes.

From Briggs View
Briggs bowled the least of the Yorkshire overs, only sending down 11 overs in 3 spells but he was in the wickets again picking up 2. His final spell proved to be expensive as Collingwood and Benkenstein got into the grove but after he removed Benkenstein the run rate slowed down and Yorkshire got back on top a little bit and restricted Durham from reaching 400.

Shaun Briggs 11-4-31-2
1st Spell
1st Over: Briggs bowls a no ball in his opening over

2nd Over: WICKET! Benkenstein follows in Collingwood's footsteps and hits two more boundaries from Briggs who replies brilliantly, bowling a short one which Benkenstein goes after only to see his effort fall safely into the hands of Dawson
3rd Over: Maiden over
4th Over: 2 picked up from what would be Briggs final over
End Of Spell 4-1-21-1

Game Heading For Draw Despite McGrath Heroics
From Chester-le-Street

Yorkshire replied to Durham's first innings score with a mammoth 489/7 before declaring just before lunch on the final day. That means Yorkshire hold a lead of 110 and have just over 2 sessions to try and force a victory on a pitch which is rapidly deteriorating. All of Yorkshire's batters got scores, but none more than Anthony McGrath who hit a stylish 101 not out. Phil Jaques continued his good form with an aggressive 72 while Steve Harmison picked up 3 wickets for Durham.

From Briggs View
Shaun Briggs got back into form with the bat hitting a very good 65 for Yorkshire. It was a very attacking innings from Briggs, and what would of impressed most people was the way he got after England's leading fast bowler Harmison by smashing him to the boundary on several occasions and hit a huge six straight down the ground from him after the new ball was taken. However Harmison did get Briggs out eventually and made him well aware of it too.
