Stats For Shaun Briggs After Game Three

Finally the promise has been shown with the bat by Briggs and we are now seeing early glimpses of his all round game. The century and 3 wickets in the game completed a fine all round performance which merited his second man of the match performance of the season.

Leicestershire vs Yorkshire
Grace Road

Yorkshire travel to Grace Road for their fourth county championship game of the season today in what should be a good contest between themselves and Leicestershire. There has been no recent rain to speak of and so the pitch should be good, conditions are shown below.

conditions5wu.jpg

Overcast conditions could sway the decision of Ackerman or White into what they want to do, so it would be an interesting coin toss.

toss3da.jpg

Ackerman won the toss and despite the overcast conditions, he wanted his team to have a bat first on the pitch which looked fine. Both captains handed over their team sheets to the match officials and the teams were announced.

No changes for either team then as they look to go from strength to strength in both their quests for promotion.

Leicestershire Restricted To 225 In First Innings
At Grace Road

Leicestershire were bowled out on day one by Yorkshire for 225. It remains to be seen weather that is a good score or not when Yorkshire come out to bat but by the look of things, batting is going to be quite difficult under cloud cover. Dinesh Mongia helped Leicestershire to the score they finished on as he hit a patient 77 before being bowled by McGrath. Shaun Briggs was the pick of the Yorkshire bowlers.

Dinesh Mongia: Top scorer for Leicestershire

From Briggs View
Shaun Briggs good form continued as he picked up 4 wickets from the 14 overs he bowled. He kept it very tight which is shown by his very economical figures and if he has another good game with the bat, another man of the match award could be on its way to him.

Shaun Briggs 14-4-22-4
1st Spell
1st Over: Maiden to open up with from Briggs
2nd Over: WICKET! The dangerous Darren Maddy is cleaned up by Briggs, attempting to wack him out of the ground, he misses completely and is bowled
3rd Over: Tight again from Briggs, only 2 from the over
4th Over: Another maiden from Briggs, 2 from 4 for him
5th Over: WICKET! Ackerman plays all around a Briggs delivery and is clean bowled, another maiden for Briggs too.
6th Over: More tight stuff from Briggs
End Of Spell 6-3-3-2
2nd Spell
1st Over: Maiden to start Briggs' second spell
2nd Over: 2 from the over
3rd Over: WICKET! Brilliant diving catch by Dawson to get rid of Maunders
4th Over: More tight stuff from Briggs, seems to be frustrating the Leicestershire batsmen
5th Over: 2 from the over, Briggs hits Snape on the helmet twice in the over, making him fall to the ground on both occasions!
End Of Spell 5-1-6-1
3rd Spell
1st Over: Single from the over
2nd Over: WICKET! Snape plays on and is bowled, Gibson later hits Briggs for 4 through the covers
3rd Over: 6 from the over, most expensive over Briggs has bowled in the innings
End Of Spell 3-0-13-1

Yorkshire Dominate Leicestershire Bowlers
At Grace Road

Openers Matthew Wood and Phil Jaques dominated the Leicestershire bowlers, both hitting centuries in an opening stand of 218 to all but end Leicestershire's chances of winning the game. It was a very dominant display from Yorkshire's batters who reached 402 before declaring for a lead of 177 with a day and a half to come.

From Briggs View
Shaun Briggs came to the crease with Yorkshire already cruising at 360/2. His aim was simple, to get some quick runs so Yorkshire could declare with a comfortable lead. However his charge was soon halted by rain which lasted for around 2 hours, and when Vaughan and Briggs came back out, both looked to get after the Leicestershire bowlers. Briggs hit a huge six from Defraitas and then stroked away an elegant four through the covers to show his good form at the moment. He was run out for 26, looking for a quick single.

Harvey To The Rescue!
At Grace Road

Ian Harvey was Yorkshire's hero as he picked up the final 5 wickets in Leicestershire's second innings as they were bowled out for 233, meaning Yorkshire require 57 runs to win in just about 2 hours play. Harvey changed his pace brilliantly to deceive the tail end, something he is renound for, and today he showed way as he may have just won the game for Yorkshire. Dinesh Mongia showed his class again hitting an unbeaten 95, but unfortunately for him, none of the tail could hang around long enough for him to make three figures.

Harvey and Mongia: Overseas players coming good

From Briggs View
Briggs' second innings in the field did not go as well as his first. A couple of misfields led to boundaries and his bowling at times was quite stray, but none the less he still managed to pick up two Leicestershire wickets and take a good catch to dismiss Nixon.

Shaun Briggs 13-2-42-2
1st Spell

1st Over: 4 From Briggs first over in which Maddy plays and misses
2nd Over: WICKET! Brilliant response from Briggs as Maddy hammers him away for four only for Briggs to clean him up next ball
3rd Over: Maiden
4th Over: No ball from the over
5th Over: Tight from Briggs, two from the over
End Of Spell: 5-1-16-1
2nd Spell
1st Over: Mongia pulls Briggs for 4
2nd Over: More punishment from Mongia as he hammers Briggs for 4 more
3rd Over: Four from the over
4th Over: WICKET! Briggs bowls the notorious slower one which decieves Maunders and gives him his second wicket
End Of Spell 4-0-16-1
3rd Spell
1st Over: Snape hits Briggs away for 4
2nd Over: Maiden from Briggs
3rd Over: 3 from the over
4th Over: Tight stuff from Briggs, putting pressure on the batters
End Of Spell 4-1-10-0

Stats For Shaun Briggs After Game Four

Briggs good form with the ball continues, picking up 6 wickets in this game to take his season tally to 14. He will probably be dissapointed to see his batting average drop from 50 to 37 but hopefully that will rise as the season progresses.

The next game against Durham should be more testing, facing up to Harmison will be no easy feat, lets see!!.....
