Story A Season In The Life Of.....................Me...!![C2005]

Briggsey really enjoying the thread, keep it up. Do Yorkshire have a keeper in their squad called Simon Guy on C2k5? Just he played as Pro at my club last year and wondered if he is in the game or not?

Yes they do, I was considering putting him in because Blakey isnt doing too well with the gloves and shouldnt be in the game in the first place because he retired last season and Dawood is the keeper now, so maybe he will get a game soon!

High Scoring Game Ends In Draw
From Chester-le-Street

Yorkshire's hopes of winning this game ended today thanks to a good knock from Mike Hussey who frustrated the Yorkshire bowlers scoring a classy 84. Hussey, together with most of his batting partners saw off a lot of bowlers and played the spinners very well to ensure the game finished in a stalemate. It was a shame really, one of the teams deserved to win basically on the grounds that they had both batted brilliantly but when it came down to it, the bowlers of both teams were just not up to the job of taking 20 wickets to win the game.

From Briggs View
Briggs was under used in this game, bowling only 15 overs in the two innings. His 4 overs in the second innings were very tight and yet again, his run of taking wickets continued as his bowled Collingwood, the centurian of the first innings. If Briggs continues to bowl in the fashion he has done so far, there is little doubt he will be up there with the leading wicket takers.

Shaun Briggs 4-1-4-1

1st Over: Maiden over to start up
2nd Over: WICKET! Slower ball from Briggs which he has used so effectively this season creeps through the defenses of Collingwood and clips the off stump
3rd Over: 2 runs from the over
4th Over: 1 run from what would be Briggs final over

Stats For Shaun Briggs After Game Five
statsafter55ze.jpg

Briggs will be happy that his batting average has climbed again and his bowling average continues to improve with every game that passes. If Briggs can maintain his batting average above 40 and keep taking wickets, it will be a very impressive debut season for him.

Yorkshire vs Essex
At Headingly

A reverse of the opening game of the season see's Essex make the journey to Headingly to take on leaders and the only team unbeaten this year; Yorkshire. When these two teams met on the opening day, a very entertaining draw was played out in a game which by all means Essex should have won, so it would be interesting to see if Essex could push the leaders all the way this time around. Conditions were checked beforehand by Craig White and stand in captain Andy Flower.

So a green pitch was in store for the bowlers which meant that anything could happen, but with overcast conditions and the sun threatening to break through at any moment, it would be a tough decision deciding what to do first on this pitch.

Craig White won the toss and decided to take a risk and bat first, would this be the wrong decision? Only time would tell. The teams were released shortly after.

Briggs And Blakey To The Rescue!!!
At Headingly

Yorkshire were rescued today thanks in part to a brilliant century innings from Shaun Briggs, and a quick fire 62 from Richard Blakey. When Blakey came to the crease to meet Briggs, Yorkshire were 162 for 6 and in deep trouble but a stand of 106 saved Yorkshire from what would of been a heap load of trouble. Yorkshire were eventually bowled out for 323 but Essex will be dissapointed not to have restricted them to less than 200.

From Briggs View
An brilliant innings under pressure is the way to describe this century from Briggs. He came to the crease at 92 for 2 and when wickets were falling around him, he had to really get his head down and put together a solid parthership, and that is what he did with the old war-horse Richard Blakey. Briggs played some quite superb shots, but none better than the one that brought up his century, a huge heave straight down the ground from the bowling of former Yorkshire great, Darren Gough. A real special moment for him especially when Gough himself congratulated Briggs on his second century of the season.
