AUSTRAILIA VS WEST INDIES, MATCH PREVIEW

IK: Hello and welcome to the second game of the ICC Champions trophy 2006, in India. What a cracker of a match we have here for you today between the two possible favourites of the competition. I am joined in the studio today by two men who are young and gunning to get into their sides. I am joined by Steve Waugh and Carl Hooper. Thank you for coming along.
This is looking like a close encounter where do u think it could be won.

SW: Well, both these sides are great at every aspect of the game. They both bat in depth and bowl in depth. Not only do they both have extensive lists they have some of the greatest in history. For the team batting first i fell that on this pitch you need to hit 275 at the minimum, as shown in the India, South Africa game. If you do get that then there is pressure on the other side to do well.

IK: Yep well India blazed the South African Total away in just 40 overs, what do u think Carl.

CH: Well as Steve said it is all about setting a score that you can bowl at. Both team are yet to play here so it will be a period of finding out. Both of these teams have had long journies so they will be both tired. But i feel that bwling will be key, you expect high scores, but there is no expectations on the bowlers if one sides bowlers perform better than the others they will win.

IK: Well lets have a look at the 2 line ups:

AUSTRAILIA
1.Adam Gilchrist (Wicket-keeper)
2.Greg Chappell
3.Don Bradman (Captain)
4.Ricky Ponting (Vice-Captain)
5.Michael Bevan
6.Dean Jones
7.Mark Waugh
8.Brett Lee
9.Shane Warne
10.Dennis Lillee
11.Glenn McGrath

WEST INDIES
1. Gordon Greenidge
2. Viv Richards
3. Garry Sobers
4. Brian Lara (vice-captain)
5. Clive Lloyd (captain)
6. Clyde Walcott
7. Rohan Kanhai (wicket-keeper)
8. Malcolm Marshall
9. Michael Holding
10. Curtly Ambrose
11. Courtney Walsh

What do u make of the two line ups?

hussaincc3.png

Leading from the front??

SW: Well looking at the Aussie line up, they have gone for the major hitting show at the begginning with Gilchrist, there was much talk in the newspapers as too where mananger GrayNichols would play him. He has gone for the attack early option which means that they will be trying to score as many from the off as quickly as possible. But if that fails they have Bradman and Ponting who are 2 of the greatest batsmen in the history of the game. Those 2 are no slowcoaches. Then you have Mr. One Day himself coming in and he will bat slowly, quickly depending on the situation. Then you have Dean Jones and Mark Waugh who are both great one day batters. Then you have Warne and Lee who can both hit a good ball to the ropes.
On the bowling side of things you have McGrath and Lillee 2 of the greatest quickies of all time, with Brett Lee as backup. Warne is the greatest spin bowler of all time and they will need him to perform today. But then like the current side, they will have to mix and match the bowling a bit
.

The original master blaster!

CH: Well the West Indies too are an exceptionally strong side. They have Greenidge who is a competent One Day player and can score quickly as can the rest of the side with the West Indian flair. Then you have the original master balster himself Viv, followed by Sobers, Lara and Lloyd, what a line-up. Most of these west indians would feature in an all time 11. Then at six you have Walcott as back-up. Then the wicket-keeper who can hit a good ball miles. Then you come down into the bowlers, this is the one area they could improve the fact that they have 4 tailenders playing, the Aussies should skittle them out quickly if they get to 8,9,10,11.
On the bowling front there is alot of Sweet Chin Music and lots of wickets in there, so expect wickets and not very many runs, and lots of chest high, chin high balls.

IK: Thank you, for your views one last thing i want your predictions for the match.

SW: Well the Windies win the toss and hit 300 for 5, with Richards hittting a 100 quicker than a run a ball. The aussies will clean that total up with 5 overs to go with Bradman and Ponting both getting hundreds. The Aussies to win by 4 wickets.

CH: Well i'm going to go opposite to that, Aussies to win the toss and bat. They are all out for 230, then we come in and knock the total of with 7 wickets and 10+ overs in hand.

IK: Thank you for your views and predictions they all beleive it will be a tight one, and so do i.

702 RUNS 9 WICKETS!!!

Reported by Tino Getron. The Crowd here at mumbai were pumped up and expected alot from these two legendary giants and they weren't let down.
The West Indian won the toss and elected to bowl on a shirt front wicket, perfect for batting, a strange decision in anyones eyes, perhaps they had a plan.

Lets have a look through the Austrailian innings and see what prevailed

AUSSIE INNINGS
As Walsh steamed in for the first ball of the innings there was alot of hype about these two teams many believed it would be a taster for the final. The first ball of the innings was defiantly smashed through the covers for four. From that point forward the onnas didn't change.
Gilchrist and Chappel started off very well and the run rate after 10 overs was over 6. They both batted for a very long time and it wasn't until the 28th the first wicket came. It was that of Gilchrist who played a rather uncharacteristic innings hitting 66 off 72. Chappel became the first man in this years ICC Champions Trophy to hit 100, but he quickly fell 2 balls after Gilchrist, with 101 off 95. Ponting and Bradman hd some rebuiling work to do, but they didn't defend they rebuilded via attacking Bradman bringing his 50 up off of 24 balls and he didn't stop there he went to 100, and was eentually out for 113, but it had only come off 60 balls. In that knock he had hit 15 fours and 5 sixes. Ponting fell 2 short of a half century a controlled inings of 48 off 53. When Ponting was out in came Mr One Day himself Michael Bevan and he played a crowd pleasing innings with 39 off 14. Actually 38 of those came in boundaries and he only managed to run 1. Waugh and Jones were the two not out batsmen with a combined total of 16 off 8. Austrailia showed a remarkable display of controlled hitting against a formidable bowling attack hitting 392 for 5 after 50.

Gilly's only six!

The bowling figures were awful of the four front line bowlers Walsh and Ambrose had a run rate of over 8, and Marshall and Holding over 5. SObers, Walcott, Greenidge and Llyod all bowled all of their run rates were over 7. The wickets went to Walsh who got 2, Marshall, Holding and Sobers all got 1.

The West Indies had a formidable task, they had to get 393 of 50, at a run rate of 7.86

WINDIES INNINGS
The Aussies were fired up in the field and when the two Windies openers came out onto the field they look demorilised knowing that defeat was the most likely outcome.
After the first 10 overs the score was at 59 without loss and the run-rate had soared to 8.35 an over, Greenidge was the first man out with the score on 67, he was out for 42 off 41, and Sobers and Richards were out in the middle and looking to score runs like had so often in the past, but neither lasted very long with Sobers out for 10 and Richards out for 31. After 16.3 overs the situation was 94 for 3, with Lara and Lloyd new to the middle, and the run rate was almost 9. Lara and Lloyd both past 50, Llyod was then out for 63 off 64 going for a big shot straight down the ground. Lara carried on and ended up 110 not out off 99 balls, and Walcott was 1 run off his half-century. The final score for the Windies was 310 for 4.

The shot that bought up 100

On the bowling front Warne got 2, Waugh and McGrath also chipped in with 1 apiece. Brett Lee and Shane Warne both finsihed their 10 overs for under 6, and McGrath ended up just over as did Dennis Lillee.
