@Yash.

I just find it hilarious someone could look across the cast of legends in England’s middle order test history and think “yep, Ian Bell for me”.

Awful, weak player.
He is the 9th most run scorer for England in test.

Wilfred Rhodes for me. Will be my second opening batsman and my second spinner.

@blockerdave

So for my first pick. I will select Tony Lock as my main spinner

First-Class |654|2,844|10/54|?|19.23|2.18|196/50
Test |49|174|7/35|11/48|25.58|2.03|9/3
A bit of his bio from Wiki

"Lock took 2,844 first-class wickets, placing him ninth on the all-time list, and is the only player to score more than 10,000 runs without once making a century; despite passing fifty on 27 occasions, his highest score was 89, made in a Test in Guyana. His tally of 831 catches in first-class cricket, mostly taken at short leg, lies behind only W.G. Grace and Frank Woolley (both of whom are in my team)."

My second pick will be Frank Woolley

A bit of his bio from wiki:

"A genuine all-rounder, Woolley was a left-handed batsman and a left-arm bowler who varied his style between left-arm orthodox spin and left-arm medium pace. He was an outstanding fielder close to the wicket, generally at first slip, and is the only player other than wicketkeepers to hold over 1,000 catches in a first-class career. He represented England in 64 Test matches from 1909 to 1934. Woolley is generally regarded as one of cricket's greatest-ever all-rounders. His first-class career runs total is the second highest of all time, after Jack Hobbs, and he scored the seventh highest number of career centuries. His career total of wickets taken is the 27th highest. He was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in the 1911 edition."

Another pick made purely with the heart, no conidiation given to his record at all

@Aislabie
The less said about his first incarnation as a ropey opening batsman averaging about 27 the better.

But the Butch who came back as a number 3/4 and averaged nearly 45 for a couple of years as classy top quality batsman: what a player.
