Anti Viruses

Just get Kaspersky Internet Security 2009.

I did, it was giving my BSOD messages, lots of them. As soon as it was removed, they stopped. Tis annoying, maybe ill have to roll back to the 2007, if its supported. :noway

Edit, i might actually give it another try.

Hey its legal to use a trial version, so i suppose i am still entitled to support. ;)

They say Avast is better but I've been with AVG for some time and I can't see me switching any time soon unless with really convincing evidence.

Oh and might I add too, I don't get ANY viruses on my computer. I used too on my other one, AVG kept deleting them.

Vista's UAC (user account control) stops everything. Who needs an Anti-Virus when you have this :love

I had to uninstall Kaspersky 9, as it was giving me BSOD messages on windows vista 64. Currently, i am without virus protection, and am living life on the edge with just windows vista firewall, and windows defender.

This is quite risky considering all the hardcore porn sites i visit. :p

Yeuch - not a good idea. At least put AVG Free and Spybot S&D on for now, eh?

UAC stops you getting viruses? How? Does that also come with Win 7?

I am now mainly on trial modes. Have identified 12 anti virus software which I will use for 30 days each

I use Avira. It's very light for the system and does the job I need.

Avast is better than AVG and Avira, but the thing is, it lowers your internet speed by a large amount. Ofcourse, you can configure it to stop doing that, but then it shows an icon that says 'Your System is not Completely Protected' which annoys me big time.

Yep. It doesn't delete viruses, but it is like a Virus Firewall.

Basically it ask you whenever you want to install a new program/registy/cookies whatever. And it stops all automatic installations.

Basically I haven't run an anti-virus for like 6 months, I did yesterday, and I was totally clean.

Wait sorry I meant something a bit different.

UAC can't stop viruses from being put onto your computer, but it just doesn't allow them to turn on. I tired turning off UAC and my computer started lagging big time, turn it back on and it's like brand new.

I wanted to know is there any Freeware :D AntiVirus software which supports Win98. Previously AVG was a freeware but their latest edition doesnt support Win98.:(

( Now dont tell me to uninstall Win98 and migrate to Win XP,Vista etc just for this sake :p )

I am surprised you can see this forum with that computer.

So what is the best one? I use AVG atm.

I tried Norton once, and it just gave me the shits.

I use AVG, it's free and I'm not a dickhead so I don't go looking for untrustworthy sites or opening obvious rubbish e-mails etc

I strongly suspect the people who produce AV software have a good time selling it, not by widespread promotion, but by producing what you're protecting against...........................
