Review: Anyone else unsatisfied?

Back to "am I disappointed?"

Honestly I kind of am disappointed in the lack of depth to the replay value. This game is essentially just career mode which for someone like me who utterly despises T20 cricket that's a bit of a let down. I'm not sure if I should start a new thread on it or not but it really is barebones outside of the career mode and in some cases even a backwards step from 14. Such a shame.
You sound like a purist. Sadly T20 is becoming more popular and even sadder is the fact it pays the bills for most teams. it is also 'modern life' friendly which fits with lifestyle choices for those targetted. Video games will embrace these changes and incorporate this in the game. I'm a big fan of limited overs cricket and did think growing up this was the ultimate hi, how wrong T20 for me started when I was getting interested in cricket and grew to what it is now. It is designed for people my age and will be the future. The career mode subconsciously, many people will get on with the games and I feel it is designed so you can play rapid games to level up quicker.

Nah, it isn't even real cricket. Fine if millions of people want to go and watch and play it, and cricket can swim in money, but not all of us are interested. I played 20 years of club cricket in three countries and I would say about 10 percent of the games on offer were 20 over matches. It is sad that 20 over is the only thing on offer at club level, some 40 overs added into the mix would be nice.

Barebones in what way? I actually never play career mode but set up my own leagues although it is frustrating that the points allocation isnt working properly.
I find the competition creator and tour creator really lacking in substance.

I can only create a 1 or 2 round league, a knock out comp or a series which means no creating a World Cup because I can't create groups, no creating a World Series because I can't have more than 2 rounds or play a best 3 finals series, there's only a certain amount of warm up matches I can put in to a tour mode which hampers efforts to play against international associates and domestic sides like the good ol days. I can't set a host nation for any created competition, I can't set a final venue anywhere even when I go to override the stadiums in tour mode for an ODI series. If you were to play a competition you can't change the teams already selected in default competitions or if you can I haven't worked it out.

One thing I would really have loved is to create seasons. SWC 99 had a 10 or 15 year season mode which was awesome, that's really where my heart lies with these games. I would have no issue creating the multiple seasons the same as tours but just let it be continuous so I can really feel immersed rather than just deciding to play random tours. I quit my tour of Zimbabwe because after the first test it said that I have to play the first test as the next match there's no record of it ever happening lol and now I just can't be bothered but at least if I was in a season mode I haven't something to aim for

i would have liked seasons as well, it was really nice feature in C07 were you can pick a season from a choice of decade i think you can carry over form throughout the season, and i used to drop players based on form and pick new one up not that it mattered gameplay wise much in that game but was fun. In DBC kind of set up tours and play them in my hypothetical season. That said i cant call this barebones in anyway, its still a mammoth of a game outside career. though it would be nice to have well done seasons in next iteration.

Have to agree on the amount of 'restrictiveness' this game offers we like to play a series with a number of games which isn't possible would also like to have the different formats for the World cups (groups of four and groups of five and seven).

That's about the ghist I was arriving at, money in the modern world speaks, it is a sad fact. There's no finesse in T20 but it is the future (with sad trepidation).

Well then I can get into other sports that didn't sell themselves out. Rugby is still fairly loyal to it's values, as are badminton and squash. Maybe there will be a die hard of endurance red ball cricket going on somewhere, probably not professional, for people to ogle over, but I think the only first class cricket in 50 years time will be the Ashes.

You mean I have to sit here watching us thrash the poms again and again??? I hate thrashings but these guys love the underdog... And are always the under dog with exception of the odd year where they 'just about' beat us.

I'm staying out of that argument. I'd support North Korea if they were up against A*******a

That's fair enough I do live here now so I guess I'm an honorary Pom now... I think your looking for the title of the country and it's STRAYA!!!

As a older player who perhaps lacks the reactions/eye of the younger players I am finding that the T20 club game monotonous and boring. It is very difficult to level up when you are not coping well with the format. My first player failed to get out of club cricket. Their 6 season career was in that area and became so boring that I started another player. That player on the easiest setting finally qualified after 3 seasons. That's a lot of T20 games. I hate T20 by the way.
I would have liked to see a mixture of T20, 40 Over games and 2 day matches in the club season and then the boredom and pressure to qualify for higher level games wouldn't seem so crushing for those not good enough to advance. The better players would have advanced no matter the make up of the competition in my opinion.
So yes I'm disappointed so far but maintain hope that the DEV's in their glacial time zone will eventually bring out the UPDATE sometime.

You have to "qualify" from T20 club level? Ugh...

I'd found career mode hard to get into due to the initial T20 slog (both meanings of the word), I hate the format... Next time I play I had planned to just go on and simulate matches until it progressed me to a point where I can play the other formats, but it sounds like this may rely on luck.

Maybe I'll just put it on the easiest level to start with just to escape the T20s after the first season...

I'd been playing on Legend and bowling in those T20 games is just pointless really. There is no challenge to it, the best method I've found for stopping them scoring is to just use 24 yorkers in your 4 overs (if they even use all your overs) which are impossible to fail at because length variation/error is non-existent... While the batting (from middle order), is just coming in with 2-3 overs left (if at all) and hoping you can smash some easy runs due to silly CPU field placings, but ultimately failing and offering simple catches because your career player is so bad at the start.

You should sim the first couple of seasons and then work your way into the shield matches. However, it would have been great to have had a choice of match type as there is no strategy in hit the ball as hard as you like and as far as you can get it. I do enjoy pushing the ball around and then taking out the bad ball something you can't do in 120 balls.
