I think there was more quality in both sides in 2005 and it actually felt like we were watching two of the best sides in the world. This time around I think the revised world rankings probably tell us that we have been watching two sides slightly below that standard. Didn't stop it being gripping cricket though with remarkable swings in the balance of power.

I dunno, 2005 didn't have Ponting getting mullered in the face by a ball. 2005 didn't have a 20 year old opener who everyone said would tear us apart but failed on an ubelievably epic scale. 2005 also didn't have Mitchfail's wides. Nor did 2005 have an Australian attack decimated by a woman.

But then again, 2005 did have Simon Jones being alive.

Are we talking about Cook or Hughes? Since one of them had the whole series to fail and the other had 2 tests.
