Ashes Cricket General Discussion

Er okay.

Nice to hear about the beta group being updated. The forum seems to be much more active as well. Let's hope big ant surprises us with something great.

As for the sliders, after reading most adjustments don't do significantly much I will leave it up to big ant to tinker with them (if they even want to) because they definately know best.

As for CazCat , you seem to have a great and witty sense of humour. Was hoping for amother sarcastic and really fun reply... don't keep me waiting the same way that we are awaiting the new patch...

I submit the following video for your reference regarding the batting being easy. Do watch the slider settings at 0:15 mark to see that I had put most of the batting sliders to 100...

And here's the thread where you can see more discussion around the same...

Batting has been arcadey for me after spending just a few hours on the game irrespective of sliders. The edges are rare and the only way to pose a challenge artificially seems to be to reduce the "Ball Marker Display Time". But even then I end up losing a wkt is by being LBW or bowled due to reaction time being too low. When you add this arcadey batting with broken stats (including career mode), poor AI, poorer AI fields, online bugs etc. I fail to see too many positives. I wish I could see something positive about "face scans" and "motion capture" but I don't when the core gameplay, especially batting, is so limited.

How did you get the stadium scoreboard to look like that? The only one I ever see is the default black scoreboard with yellow writing.

That's the default OOB WACA stadium. I haven't downloaded any custom stadiums or modified anything on my end.

I think it's important to know that something is happening, as small as it may be it's something.

There's a lot of negativity on this forum a lot of which can be justified for various reasons. I however am in the stage of cautious optimism so I will continue to hope for the tweaks to take the game back to where it once was.

Thats a terrible thing to say actually. That isnt fair at all.

I believe it is.

I don't believe it's particularly proportionate of him to feel "betrayed" by a bug in a computer game, though his scenario certainly sounded frustrating. But to make a statement denouncing the developer and then saying you'll carry on buying their games is part of the problem. A developer that knows they'll not suffer commercial penalty from behaving in a particular manner has no incentive to stop behaving in that manner.

We have no way of influencing them beyond our wallets. Opening them regardless won't exercise influence.

I always intended buying AO, partly because I didn't pay for Ashes and partly to "support" BA. (Not a huge tennis fan but I've played previous tennis games and had fun.) I decided against buying it in early December last year when it became clear that Ashes wasn't going to get anything approaching the level of post-release support BA had hinted would be the result of self-publishing. (Note, well before AO released, and well before I walked away from beta, well before we saw what AO was at release.) I've no other way to express that displeasure (beyond bitching here) to express my displeasure.

It’s hightime @BigAntStudios need to respond, it’s no point keeping their customers waiting without any info. Every passing weekend without patch is really frustrating. Sorry to say this has been their attitude or behaviour right from DBC14. Their interaction with their customers regarding patch or status update has been nil.

I was keen to buy AO but decided to opt for wait and buy approach looking at the way Ashes Cricket was supported.

There really is so much cow dung around here it is unbelievable. I cant even be bothered reacting to stuff or point out some of the basic logic flaws in some peoples sweeping statements.

I am not sure where this site is going anymore. This used to be a place we could all come just to vent, make jokes, play some videos and generally was a fun place to be. The communication or lack thereof of any developer should never determine the overall mood of an entire site. Instead people harp over utter b.s. and make up there own. I will say this... right now I am happy to be a part of the beta. It is a safe haven from this worm hole of utter spewing of rubbish. And we are at least making strides and moving forward there. Even if just in baby steps.

Edit: especially because people there tend to be more sensical in their approach.

Hey Llewelynf. Just wanted to know if the issue of couch Co op mode where 2 players are batting on the same side bug ( on classic controls whereby the batting just refuses to be inverted no matter what the settings are on) will be fixed on the next patch, or if you have any information on it?

It occurs when batting is on fixed close cam (not sure about the other camera angles)

Thanks again for the good work you have done, especially with creating the international teams.

Also it's good to see you back here. Haven't seen you post in a while (if I'm not mistaken).

Agreed, would LOVE to join that discussion group ;(

Genuinely interested to know how you suggest consumers should react?

Have BA supported this game adequately to date? I would write off everything that's happened since the turn of the year - the reception of AO was almost certainly much worse than expected and they've been firefighting. Fair enough. But from release to end of December - do you feel support was adequate? If it wasn't, how do you think consumers can get through to the developer that they aren't happy?

We are waiting for that baby to grow up.

I was refering for example to the sweeping statement that things have been “like this” since dbc14 and that someone is or isnt going to buy a game depending on how another game is patched/not patched, and that someone feels “betrayed”. (I reread his statement and agree that his comments dont add up and to continue to buy things is indeed a contradiction and have edited my post accordingly)

As I am writing on my phone I wont go into every detail.

Yes consumers have a right to be critical and upset if they feel a product is broken or unsatisfactory and the strongest way of voicing that is by not buying products from the producer of those goods anymore.

However there are different ways and approaches of going about things and the choices one makes on how he or she wishes to conduct themselves.

If people were to just stick with not buying the game out of dissatisfaction fair enough but they have to go on and on and on about it expecting others to do the same. The truth is there are many people also enjoying the game, placing its flaws into sensible perspective and not making out it is ruining their whole lives or worse, that BA are out to systematically ruin their lives.

If I go to a restaurant and am not happy with the quality I state that, I dont leave a tip and I dont go there again; I dont start a campaign to troll and stalk the place and stand outside telling people not to go in: I just let those who are enjoying their meals get on with it. Also if I have frequented that restaurant often and also had good meals they dont suddenly become shit because of my bad night out....

The game has weak points and onesidedness in some aspects......I still enjoy it and get on with other stuff when I am bored or frustrated or whatever.

I feel privileged to be part of the beta team and have also been frustrated, as you know, but I feel my best contribution is to work with them in an atmosphere of mutual respect, confidentiality and understanding. I have been and remain to this day amazed with the response, commitment, passion and willingness to listen from the developers. I know the negativity stings and hurts them and they have felt they just need to batten down the hatches somewhat publicly, but it spurs them on to get it right as far as they can.

We can only take your word for that, and I'm not questioning whether it is true, but people who are not privy to what goes on at BA or in the beta can only make judgements based on what has happened since the game was released. There has been little no communication with the wider community (whether it's something of substance on here or on Twitter) and a handful or quick fix patches, the last of which was two months ago. Personally, and I think I'd speak for the majority of people, I don't expect daily updates on the situation of patches but something would be better than the radio silence that has happened. When a developer withdraws from a community they engage with (which I think is the worst choice) people are of course going to jump to conclusions, and it's the internet there is always going to be hyperbolic statements thrown around. But, I think people would appreciate the candour about why the great support we were expecting has thus far been largely non-existent.

I am not only talking of the contact in the beta group but over the last four or five years. I agree that I am privvy to some aspects others are not and agree that it would be helpful if “BA” were able to release some form of statement but I would ask people to be circumspect in their reactions and to perhaps glean some faith and hope that the doors are not all shut and that things are happening.
