Ashes Cricket Media Discussion

Is commentary that important... ? Why don't we 'not bother' and have authentic crowd sounds (regional) and player sounds from the middle we could have some sledging? These are afterall supposed to be authentic sports games so why not do away with commentary and get in the game than the TV broadcast... Just a different angle.
I don't why but commentary just adds that realism to the game.

I think this would be far better approach and probably easier to implement

However for the casual fan, probably some form of commentary is expected as standard so must be catered for?
No, break the mould let's go for innovation and a change; can't get it right (being general not specific) then do something different create a new experience get away from the style of game development.

I really like Danny Morrison commentary lol, I really hope they can get him to do some lines for Ashes Cricket.

Realism from a watching tv style experience, but obvs not realistic from a playing in the middle type experience which is what Big Ant are focused on?

Yeah true but some people want that TV experience like me but we just want a decent commentary and also a good broadcast camera angle and not the one in DBC lol.

Not for me. I think BigAnt had the right approach towards commentary when they said it would be used more as a feedback (e.g. commenting on the match situation, giving advice on the behavuour o the ball etc.) rather than running play by play commentary....however it could have been implemented a bit better.

Who would you want as commentators for Ashes Cricket? If I could choose I would have Atherton, Holding, and Bumble (with Slater as the potentially already confirmed fourth).
Oh probably Shane Warne and Sam Newman... Oh yes Sam Newman now that would be gold! Him and warned would make those long sessions of test cricket very very interesting!!! Bzzt Shane Warne has just made the headlines get him in while his hot, any publicity is good...right?

Yep another angle and yes very useful could you imagine that with Danny Morrison screaming at you... ?

For me this is key - the commentary should exist to keep you updated about useful knowledge that otherwise is hard to get across purely visually- changing light, weather, and the current state of the score. Also about the attributes of the bowler/batsman to help the player understand how best to use them. If you actually listen to commentary, especially in cricket, that's what it is there for. And there's absolutely no reason why it shouldn't be there: it is seen by some as cosmetic, but it's so much more important.

I like this idea; having the TV presentation around the game instead of 'in' the match. Doing something different is good, especially for cricket. It's ok for FIFA/PES cause they are usually 10-12 minute matches but even after a few games that gets annoying and repetitive so I just stick it to German,Russian or whatever language I can't understand. With DBC, a T20 you're looking at 60-90 minutes of play time. So, less is more in my book when it comes to commentary. I probably played 75% of 17 without commentary because it was both poor and poorly executed.

Would much rather have a 'TV mode' where you get commentary for replays or moments where it obviously steps outside the 'normal' presentation; like when there's a change in bowling or a new batsman. One of the best things about cricket commentary is that when the game gets slow or boring they can wander off on tangents, it's difficult to replicate this unless you have your commentators sit in a booth and recite stories for three hours.

As for my ideal team: Michael Slater is a good choice, wouldn't be my first pick. If we're talking Ashes based: Bumble, Alison Mitchell, Bill Lawry.

Definitely key if implemented that way...

Harsha Bhogle maybe.

This would be ideal, I'm all for it being used to offer the player hints via analysis that you would get in a TV broadcast. However, based on the execution on 17, you would have the commentators suggesting to bring on spinners after the first five overs of a match on a cloudy morning on a hard, green pitch. And I wouldn't want that to be seen as a slight against Big Ant, if that's the ambition then it'd be great, but you need to get the basics right before getting too complex. It took the third patch of the second game to have the AI limited overs field settings that are close to realistic.

Just hire the guy from the 12th man audio tracks, great impersonations be playing the game in stitches :lol
