Asia Cup 2014

In a 3 way tie between India, BD, Pak - Pak goes through since we lost to Pak :(

For a 3 way tie to occur, Bangladesh will need to beat Pakistan too. So Ind beat BD, BD beat Pak, and Pak beat Ind. Bonus point and NRR are taken into account then. Pak already have a BP. BD need to win against Pak and SL and score a BP in either one of those matches. Ind need a bonus point with Afghan.

It's really, really unlikely. India's going home.

With Cycle Pure Agarbathies as the co-sponsor for the Asia Cup 2014 series, I saw all the matches online at Office. Thanks to the live streaming :P Well, India's win against Bangladesh, I guess I sort of knew that one was coming. But the loss against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, I don't know; I was throughout hoping if we could win. Sigh!

This time again Sri Lanka is leading the Asia Cup series.. Will Sri Lanka/Pakistan take away the title? What do you think?

Oh right so if you bowl 3 deliveries in a row in which the umpire deems to be dangerous he can omit you from bowling? Never knew this.

If you are a fast bowler you only have to bowl 2 beamers in an innings to be removed from the attack. (Also happened in this Asia Cup, Varun Aaron was removed from the attack after bowling a 2nd beamer an over after his first).

As a spinner you have a bit more leeway but if they umpires deem you're bowling to be dangerous they do have the power to take you out the attack.

Wow, genuinely never knew that before.

Strangest thing I've ever seen in cricket. Feel sorry for Abdur Rehman though.

Somehow I get a feeling he is not the first spinner to be taken off for bowling beamers at batsman.

Is it quite rare for it to happen especially at professional level. Without knowing how to look something like this up, I believe it has happened to Malinga a few times due to the way he bowls. I do remember one ODI a while back where in the first batting PP over he bowled a beamer and the captain took him out the attack until the last couple of overs rather than risk him getting forced out and not having him for the death.

The last instance of this was in the Asia Cup itself - with Varun Aaron - but before that the last one I remember was with Kemar Roach in 2009, against us in that tour. He bowled two beamers and was taken off the attack. I think I also remember seeing Yuvraj doing in the IPL but I'm not too sure of that fact.

You are correct. Roach in fact has bowled a beamer on multiple occasions, the last one being against Australia where he almost knocked Lee unconscious in the 4th ODI at St. Lucia back in 2012. I do not remember Yuvraj bowling one in IPL but I do have hazy memories of the ball slipping out of his hands in international cricket years back.

Anyway, the real point here is what is the rule for beamers? AFAIK, it is maximum two times in an innings which includes test match innings that a fast bowler is tolerated to have bowled a beamer. For spinners though the beamer is counted only when the ball is over the shoulder height and not the usual waist height as in the case of the fast bowlers. Furthermore, the umpires have the right to decided whether the ball is dangerous or not. It may happen that a dolly at 70 Kmph is not called a no ball unless it hits the batsmen. On the other hand, if a spinner is bowling at dangerous speeds (think of Kumble and Afridi) then the umpires may choose to warn the bowler before taking him off the attack for the rest of the innings on repeated offense. Interestingly, the rule states that in case of a slower delivery by a fast bowler, the rules of the spinners will apply i.e., the ball will be called as a no-ball for height only if it is over the shoulders but going by the decisions taken by the modern day umpires, the pace of a delivery no long matters when bowled by a fast bowler as they are called no ball in a flash when the ball is over waist height.

Pakistan being hammered here today. Is it a case of relaxing after trouncing the arch rivals. If Bangladesh win today, I would`nt put it past them to beat SL. SL might rest a few as well. Bangladeshis could well eek out another 30 odd and set Pakistan 320ish to chase. Won`t be easy at all, dew or no dew.

Spinner Beamer ?:p

Poor Rehman and I feel sorry for Misbah. They rested Junaid and got in Rehman.
Good batting by BD, seems like they are really going for the kill here. Pakistan showed a lot of complacency in the field. Typical of our sub-continental nations to do so.

Regards BD, are they allowed to make that many squad changes ? Isn't the Asia Cup also played on the lines of the ICC tournaments ?

Just got this-in case of a 3-way tie, NRR comes into picture.
