Asia Cup 2014

I agree about Harsha - used to love him once upon a time. He used to speak very sensibly. But now every second sentence he speaks is a supposed-joke. And most of it is not even remotely funny.

Still, its quite nice when you throw in Arun Lal, Arnold and Athar Ali in the mix. Atleast he doesn't make your ears bleed

More importantly, Kohli showing his class yet again in a run chase. Actually the match was shaping up to be eerily similar to the 4 matches we lost in NZ.
Opposition bats first. Couple of early wickets. The no wickets in the middle overs. Then late flourish gets a 270+score. India bats - Rohit/Shikhar struggle in the first 10 overs. Lose their wickets the moment things start looking a little normal. Kohli comes - if he fails, match gone. Thankfully he dint fail today

Agreed. There are far worse than Harsha, who's actually quite a nice guy if you have the chance to meet him. He has a thousand amusing cricket stories, he's intelligent, and he's been all over the world. I haven't heard him on commentary recently, but he used to be okay, much better than the likes of Arun Lal and Sivaramakrishnan. This trying-to-make-a-joke-every-other-sentence must be a new phase.

Also, Kohli! Barring AB, is there any competition to this guy as the world's best batsman across formats?

Actually, IMO there isn't a competition at all. AB is miles ahead of Virat.

Virat is brilliant in ODIs and satisfactory in T20s. Tests - still too early to judge. Needs to play at least 40-50 tests to be able to make comparisons.

Kohli - Best ODI batsman

AB - Best test batsman

The most worrying part for me is still our opening combination. I am really struggling to understand what Rohit tries to do at the start of the inning. He just goes out there and plays a couple of maiden overs for absolutely no reason. That puts pressure on Dhawan and he throws away his wickets and Rohit does the same after 10 overs. Rohit really needs to start better so Dhawan can play more freely. We don't want to depend on Kohli for every single match.

Indeed. You only have to watch Ab v Johnson in the first test to realise that he is playing on a level that most players never even dream of. Kohli is superb but doesn't quite qualify as the best in all situations like Ab does, not yet anyway...

Well , That was not too difficult , Kohli was great while chasing again , and good little knock from Rahane too . It never looked like Bangladesh were going to win when Kohli and Rahane started going , Mushfiqur Rahim also played a genuinely good innings . Hope that he hasn't done too much damage and is fit soon .

Good win for India, and as usual, super impressive stuff from Kohli.

But the major disappointment is, WHY DIDN'T HE PLAY PUJARA? Is he under orders? Is he shadow captaining? Or does he also think on similar lines that Pujara will not be as effective in ODI's. It was the best chance to give Pujara a game vs Bangladesh so that he has a chance to start off well. I think Pujara and Rahane can play together in an ODI lineup. Rahane is a big hitter. He has played a lot of good IPL innings where he has smashed bowling attacks. Pujara can be the sheet anchor at the top and give us a good start, or steady the ship.

Wish Kohli gets the sense to include Pujara soon enough and give him exposure.

Pujara should replace either dhawan or rohit.

Guys, I am little concerned about Indian Cricket's future. There is no logic behind resting Pujara. He may be another great one for India. BTW, excellent stuff from Kholi and Shami. :cheers

This sort of ---- really pisses me off, ask for a genuinely fast bowler, discourage them for lack of control, push them into dropping pace for better control, then repeat. :facepalm

These guys don't have proper guidance. We have a joke of a bowling coach in Joe Dawes, and an even bigger joke in Duncan Fletcher. For a very long time now, whispers have only kept growing louder and louder about the roles that these guys play in the team backend.

And other bowling coaches in India (e.g. Prasad, etc) focus on accuracy even if it means dropping pace, etc. And these bowlers fade away. India's bowling problem is perennial. Its deeply engrained in the system, and it will take a lot of hard work to work at the root cause of the issue. But its possible since Pakistan (who were once part of India) produces good fast bowlers continuously.

Exactly. I was going to post this article as well. Umesh Yadav and Aaron are genuinely quick bowlers and the last thing we should do is discourage them from bowling quick. Unlike many people`s opinion, our fast bowling is currently in its best possible state if we can handle the resources well.

Yadav, Aaron, Shami, Bhuvi are all young and unless you give them time to learn the trade, they are`nt going to become the finished products. Look how much time it took for guys like Steyn, Johnson, Zaheer, Anderson and Co. to make an impact. Our attitude really stinks. For the first time we have three bowlers around who can consistently bowl in the range of 140s and in case of Yadav and Aaron, clock the late 140s. I would`nt worry about him going for runs as of yet.

In fact, the best starting point for quick bowler like them is test cricket. Yet, we insist on picking Ishant Sharma again and again. I would hate it if Aaron was dropped from the next game. I hope we don`t ruin these young lads and make them drop their pace.

I saw shami bowling yorkers at the last time.

I saw shami bowling yorkers at last overs.
