Asia Cup 2022 - Sri Lanka (UAE)

Close game, could have gone either way. Both teams fumbled in different stages of the match. From India's perspective, our top order is a matter of concern. The trio of Sharma, Rahul and Kohli are putting a lot of pressure on the middle order. Yes, Kohli made some useful runs, but he was also lucky. Could easily have been out for a duck.

I didn't really like the promotion of Jadeja over SKY. You gotta give your in-form batsman as much time as possible on the field - though in today's game SKY didn't had to wait long. We were lucky that the target wasn't that big, else we would have been staring down the barrel.

Even if the teams possibly meet again later in the tournament?
I actually did not realize that the format is such! This is such a bs format. Keep the tournament small and unique. Feels like the format was made so that India Pakistan could play multiple times and they can cash the cow! Should have been semi finals for super 4 and post that final.

I cannot take another India Pakistan so soon!

On todays match, would love to see Afghanis winning the match making Sri Lanka. Bangladesh a virtual eliminator! That is one interesting group!

Hello,

I'm big fan of cricket, i really loved to play and watch cricket. Who will won the Asia Cup this year, as per my opinion India is most favorite and deserving team because India have many good players who will be able to help this Asia cup home. Whats your opinion and suggestion for Indian teams.

Thanks,
Steven Lash San Diego

Isn't that obvious?

On another note, I rarely say this but boy am I glad to see vintage Bhuvi and Hardik back. Both have been something else in recent times. Bodes well for India.

Spirit of the game, gentlemanly thing to do. It's about respect, I know every time I have gotten out LBW, or caught behind I have always tried to be as honest when I played. If a bowler was good enough to get me out (which to be fair wasn't that hard) then he deserves the wicket. Again it's not like I ever played in a high profile, high stakes game; unless you count the inter school matches we played when I lived in Saudi.
Spirit of the game is more about incidents like the batsman bumps into the bowler while running, so you don’t run him out.
In this case, just let the umpire do his job.

But have the umpires always been right? We have also seen instances of the fielding team unable to pick up the snick due to external noise. So kudos to him for walking.

If it's a genuine dismissal then it stands to reason that the batsman should go back to the pavilion - more so when you, as a batsman, know that you've knicked it. It didn't look like India would have gone for a review, so that makes it that much more special on Zaman's part. In the end, having correct outcomes is what the sport would want.

I agree with you on this being a job for the umpires. Upon watching the replay it seemed very obvious that Zaman had nicked it and it was a surprise that the Indian side did not appeal straightaway. The batter also had the right to stand his ground in this scenario.

But as I said earlier though, I wouldn’t have expected anything different from Zaman as he is a truly classy player. Sometimes more than the outcome it is your actions that matter and give you a reputation. Five to ten years down the line he will still be remembered for walking off in a heated rivalry match in a continental tournament rather than any extra few runs he would have scored before being dismissed given how good the Indian bowling attack was yesterday.

Now, all memes and jokes aside. I think yesterday's game was a brilliant showcase of the fact that this Pakistan team is not the team we've had to suffer through for the last decade or so. This team can actually hold their own against India in spite of the gulf between the two teams. For nearly a decade, we've only seen one-sided games. So to have a proper thriller in almost a decade was a surprise, but definitely a welcomed one.

I just hope the Bangladesh we see tomorrow is way different than the one we saw in the last T20 World Cup. Because if we get that, we may just be en route to having the spiciest Asia Cup we've ever had. And that's something this tournament can really use.
