Its official now, Aussie are surely on a decline, this isnt a bad patch.

Australia's dismal run which has seen them lose their last five ODIs has resulted them slipping to third in the ICC ODI Rankings behind South Africa and India.

The top of the Rankings is so tight that another India win on Sunday could close the gap on South Africa to just two points, while New Zealand, in fourth, could close to within three points of South Africa with three more wins over Australia

Australia are now one point behind India, four off leaders South Africa and only four clear of New Zealand. But they can regain second spot if they win back-to-back matches against New Zealand on Sunday, in Sydney, and Adelaide, on Tuesday. If they win all three remaining games they can draw level with South Africa.

Team Matches Points Rating
South Africa 34 4245 125
India 45 5487 122
Australia 35 4241 121
New Zealand 29 3389 117
Pakistan 31 3446 111
England 32 3469 108
Sri Lanka 42 4336 103
West Indies 27 2463 91
Bangladesh 38 1731 46
Zimbabwe 32 736 23
Ireland 10 190 19
Kenya 12 0 0

I've just read that today as well. Is this the first time that Australia has been third on the rankings? Personally, I think so. If New Zealand play well, Australia can be ranked fourth.

C'MON KIWIS!!!

:D :p

yep, i am rooting for KIWIS too. Coz more they beat aussie, lesser chance aussie would have to retain its spot by bullying minnows. Infact in last year, aussie had lost both ODI and Test series to the top 2 teams and bulllied lower ranked teams.

It isn't official. It's just a bad patch. They're without key players due to injury and they lost tours to South Africa and India. The two other best teams in the world. They're still without key players at the moment. Once they get them back, they'll get back to normal.

The problem are the losses to NZ. Might be a blip, but they seem just plain lost and letting games they would normally have shut down slip out of their grasp.

It'll be an interesting year to say the least...

this is sad for OZs
its the end of OZ domination

They are indeed looking lost and hopeless in field. They arent confident enough in the field.
I was reading the ian o brian's blog on cricinfo. He said he read a newspaper on arriving in auss, it says " Even this useless mob think they can beat us" hahahah, arrogant aussie media. They took kiwis for granted and that useless mob is now looking to win the series.

P.S: is there any bangladesh or zimbabwe's tour of australia in near future??:p:p

Australia are losing at home to other teams which is the biggest sign that they are indeed on a huge decline. Yes they have been hurt by the retirements but still this seems unexpected.

If New Zealand win the remaining games, New Zealand can become No.3 and Australia can be pushed to No.4! It would then set up a terrific battle between New Zealand and India (also India can challenge SA's No.1 ranking if they win 4 odd games against New Zealand). The battle to the top has now heated up.

Us losing ODI series at home isn't new, we have lost the past 2 ODI Tri Series at home. It's all about belief and confidence which the side has lost through all these losses. Losing so many key players to injury doesn't help the cause.

By 2011 the top 3 will be Kenya, Bangladesh and Ireland.

You can't decide we are on the decline because we have lost 2 of our last 3 Test series, that is what a bad patch is. We are never too strong in ODI's at home, we usually always lose the first few games. We won't know wether we are on the decline or not within a few years. I mean look at the games we had to play:

Away to India
Home to South Africa
Away to South Africa
Away to England

We beat the kiwis which could be a sign it is only a bad patch because we lost two test series against ranking 1 and 3. There's no shame in that. We still managed to beat lesser opposition. We have 2 tough Test series ahead so we still won't know for a while whether it is a bad patch or a decline. To think we are going to hit form when we have to play a few hard series in a row - New Zealand ODI series, South Africa tour and The Ashes is ridiculous. New Zealand are a top One Day side too so it's hard to get out of a bad patch when you have such a hard run. We were extremely unlucky to get into our bad patch when he had such a hard time ahead.

Good to see that you are trying to make the Aussies look amateurs at the skill of being arrogant, now that you are number one ;)
