Australia in risk of being dethroned from #1 spot

I personally dont think it will, i have a feeling South Africa will win in India and take number 1 spot and stop the aussies from controlling the game even more..

i don't think, that will be easy for Saf?first of all they don't have any world class spinner which u must need in india except paul harris who was very impressive in pakistan but it'll be his first tour to india and still early days for him.other point to made is D styen without doubt he'll be one of best future bowler but still in india where nothing u gonna get from pitch its so difficult?
although SAF can win but it'll be tough bettle for them for sure?;)

Excluding its faults, the ODI rankings are the best way to tell who has the best team at this form at this very moment. The World Cup proves Australia were the best in spring 2007. By being top right now, it proves you are the best today.
They aren't the best way. They are just one way of saying that. That is what all rankings attempt to tell you, anyway, and the current system isn't the best out there.

I believe ODI system reflects consistency and while Aus may have won the WC they did lose the commonwealth bank series last year and Chapell Hadlee trophy. SA i believe only lost the WC which is why they're so close. Its really the only reason why SA would be so close.

IMO, I think South Africa have always deserved the top spot, and whenever they get close to the top spot the seem to throw it away.

However this time i hope they can get to that top spot. Proves someone else can beat the aussies aswell. :cheers

No, we deserve it. Because we've always played the better cricket than all the other teams (shutup, I know about the one day series against SA :p).
And we DO win when it counts (3 World Cup Wins in a row ;))

The only reason South Africa are so close to Australia's points is due to the fact that SA have played way more games after the world cup than the aussies have. Currently Australia have only played 4 one day matches, in which two of them have been abandoned.

There were 7 ODIs in India, of which 6 were completed!

So at least 11 ODIs since the World Cup, of which 3 have been washed out.

Personally, the World Cup convinced me otherwise.

*Sucks air through teeth* it will be tough for the aussies. They have to hope for 2 things. Good weather and good cricket displaying the 3 qualities for a good cricketing side, batting well, bowling well, and fielding well.

Forget the weather.

The weather does not bring down your points tally.

All that matters is the way you play your cricket.

Yeah i know you do get 2 points. But what if your side has all the momentum has the opposition chasing a massive total and has got early wickets. Remember in the chappell hadlee onedayers. aus had the black caps 3 down for like 20, 30 runs. than the match was washed out. So in a way it can have a affect on your points tally.

We kill everyone yet we still barely on top. Hows that a good system. Its crap, end of story. Carn Aussies, even if we lose we are no. 1 if you use common sense

Australia might have lost stars from Test arena which they will find hard to replace and thats why they could be challenged in that department of game.

In ODIs they will still rule for I dont know how long time. The players are more fit athan any other teams. Even the newcommers fit in perfectly in ODI outfits and they have batting + bowling to dominate other teams.

SA might be good in home conditions but outside they will find it hard to beat sides. Also they have beaten two of the struggling sides in cricket nowdays in last 8 ODIs. Even if they go to No.1 they will come down in 2-3 weeks time.
