Australia in South Africa Oct-Nov 2011/12

Fair squads at the end of the day.

Dussey being out of the ODI is fine if the selectors want take the obvious decision that he wont be at the 2015 WC. But keeping him in T20 squad shows they see his use for the T20 Cup in SRI next year.

The continued overlooking of Nannes for the T20 continues for reasons aforementioned. MHussey also had to be that team, without Ponting & Clarke in the T20 set-up, that batting line-up will need his seniority in the middle-order in SRI next year.

Although its easy to say Cummins has been picked to early. Is their really any other fast-bowler that could have been picked ahead of him?.

- Harris obviously is being wrapped in cotton wool as a test specialist.

- Nannes should be ahead of him in the T20 squad, but Nannes wont get picked for ODIs again.

- Starc is young also and picking him would give too much left-arm quicks in the ODI squad at least.

- Copeland is not a ODI bowler

- McKay is an option, but i dont rate him & dont believe should be near to any AUS squads.

So at the end of the day Cummins is probably worth a look in.

I thought Christian had a great chance of getting a look in for both these squads given Hastings was out injured. So i think he sort of unlucky, although younger Marsh getting a opportunity is good, since i think he is all-rounder that could play tests one day.

I would have selected Ferguson over Finch in the T20 squad

My vote for Callum Ferguson too.. I was hoping he will find place in ODIs/T20s.
He's a good player to have in limited overs team and has made good progress after injury lay-off last season.

I would have selected Ferguson in the ODI squad seeing they dumped Dussey. I find it odd bordering on bizarre that they haven't gone back to him considering his record.

Steve Smith is being carried while a player with genuine ability in that format has been seemingly forgotten. Smith will have to do something at some point. I've been watching him in the Champion's League for NSW and he as anonymous as he usually is.

I think this carrying of him in the Aus teams on potential has gone on long enough. Let him go and do some hard yards in state cricket again.

I dont disagree with that assessment on Smith at all my friend. But i dont know - unless its the test team where he should be far away, i have alot of room for him being around the ODI & T20 set-up. I think its only a matter of time before he does something big @ international level in one of those formats and cements his place -those formats seems so natural to him.

Looking at the S African team for a minute and as most are aware De Villiers is out of the series South Africa news: AB de Villiers to miss Australia series | South Africa Cricket News | ESPN Cricinfo. Will be interesting to see how the saffies replace him with in the test series. The front runners seem to be Dumminy and Ingram.

Secondly an keen battle to see who will between Alviro Petersen and Jack Rudolph is going to become Smith's long term test opener.

While Ryan McClaren continues to make a strong case why he should be in the test side, with his performances in the opening round of the super sport series Supersport Series 2011-12: Knights begin with six-wicket win | Supersport Series 2011-12 Report | Cricket News | ESPN Cricinfo. It would be criminally if he doesn't leapfrog Tsotsobe as the 3rd seamer in test behind Steyn/Morkel.

T20 kit is still crap. I don't see why they can't just use two kits across all cricket. White for tests, the colour not the player, and only yellow for one-dayers and T20.

Going by the pantomime in Champions League, T20 kits should probably have capes or something.

If AB is not fit for the tests then rudolph should be the guy who takes his number 4 spot, probably going to be duminy. Ingram isn't close to the test squad. Has a very very average fc record.

On the odi squad, overall happy. Except don't get on what basis smith got picked ahead of rudolph. His odi form has been terrible for 12 months, he isn't captain and he is coming of a long injury lay of. Also don't get the reason behind picking 3 spinners in SA conditions, seems to be a cop out with selectors being scared to drop either of peterson or botha for someone like mcclaren.

Quota's come to mind. I'd argue Van Der Merwe probably deserves to be picked ahead of one Botha or Peterson on current form.

so disappointed to hear about Brett Lee's non-availability on SA tour due to injury.
How I was hoping him to go head to head against Dale Steyn... Speed Guns would have been shattered with both of them breathing fire on pacy South African tracks..

Come back soon Binga..hoping to see you in action against NZ and India in a few months time Down Under.

Shame there are only two tests - at least they're after the ODI series though.
I'd fancy SA to take it 2-0.

I would say Just recall Harris for ODI's. Siddle is nothing special.

Nah for this short series it aint worth it, especially if you consider his injury problems and the fact that he wont be at he 2015 world cup.

For now he is a test specialist and he key part of AUS test bowling plans and it should stay that way, as long as his body can take it.
