Hughes with Johnson only just behind him. A decent 2-1 victory in the series is good enough for the Aussies and they didn't really require to win that last match. I can't remember the last time someone hit a double century yet their team lost. :p

Good presentation, Jordan.

Allan Border Medal Presentation

The new kid on the block is all smiles after picking up the AB medal the previous night

Last night young Australian opener, Phillip Hughes, won the Allan Border Medal after a stellar debut year with the bat in both forms of the game. Averaging a mammoth 71.64 in tests and a very impressive 50.64 in ODIs, Hughes was unstoppable at times, winning man of the series in his debut Ashes tour. His eight test match hundreds were a record, with a further 3 centuries in the shorter form of the game. Runner up, Mitchell Johnson was no where in Hughes' league, finishing 10 points behind the winner - but it was the year of Mitchell Johnson in terms of bowling performances. 66 wickets with a best of 7/83, coupled with a test century and two big fifties solidified his status as an up and coming all-rounder in the game.

The very successful Mitch Johnson with WAG, Jessica Bratich

Here is the report card for the 2009/10 calender year:

Phil Hughes - Not much more can be said about Hughes, scoring 8 test hundreds at an average of 71.64 is something special and was clearly the standout player in the team. A+

Simon Katich - Pretty disapointing year for Katich in test cricket, only averaged 31.69 from 13 tests, was much more useful in ODI cricket with 4 hundreds. C

Ricky Ponting - Was fantastic, scored over 1000 runs in the year yet again and was very successful in leading the team to some good test victories. A-

Michael Hussey - Like Katich, was steady in tests without lighting it up. 8 ODI half centuries coming down the order is a great effort but his test place could be on the line in the coming series in India. C

Michael Clarke - Averaged close to 50 in tests and was very reliable coming in at 4 or 5 in tests. His ODI form was mind blowing, scoring 4 hundreds and 6 fifties from the middle order. A-

David Hussey - New tried middle order batsman, has done average. Averaging 40 from 8 tests, he needs a good series in Indiato secure his spot. C-

Brad Haddin - Very good year with the gloves from Haddin. Didn't light the world on fire with the bat, but was very solid behind the stumps. B-

Mitchell Johnson - Fantastic with both bat and ball, Johnson. Snared 66 wickts in tests and 45 in ODIs. Is doing well with the new ball for Australia and is hoping to repeat that form this year. A

Brett Lee - Was unlucky to miss the test series against New Zealand after a good series against the Windies, injuries forced him out of the test side since and has is itching to get a go in the team. C

Stuart Clark - Was very good when not injured. Averaged 23 with the ball in ODIs and took the new ball in tests and used it well, snaring 41 wickets from just 9 tests. The ageing veteren is still the go to man for Ponting. A-

Peter Siddle - Absolutely fantastic with the ball as the 3rd seamer. 61 test wickets is no small feat and to back it up with 31 ODI wickets is amazing. Very solid year from the bustling Victorian. B+

Other reports on Australian performances:

Shaun Tait - 19 test wickets @ 46.16. C
Ben Hilfenhaus - 12 test wickets @ 65.16. C-
Nathan Hauritz - 6 test wickets @ 76.50. C-
Marcus North - 218 runs @ 24.22. D

2010-2011 Season Commences

That caps the end of a successful year for some and a disapointing one for others. The boys fly to India next for a 3 match Test series followed by an ODI series consisting of 5 matches.

Nice, Good old Hughesy wins the AB Medal, and good to see Pup getting in the action.
Also good to see Mitchell Johnson going 2nd, very good bowling performance and was also good with the bat.

Some good performances with Hughes easily winning the Allan Border Medal. Johnson, Clarke, Ponting and Clark were all pretty damn good too.

Good presentation and writing.

Well I must say, that has been a sucessful year for the Aussies. The batting was lead by young prology Phil Hughes with efforts from Ponting and Clarke also a high. The batting was also backed up by some fantastic bowling by Johnson, Siddle & Clark.

Fantastic works Hoops! :banana2

I'm up to the Indian Test series in India but I may stop the story here and just call it quits.

So yeah, makes it more of a season story doesn't it?

Thanks for all the support guys and hope you enjoyed it.

(I may resume this at the start of the next Ashes series... In fact, I will)

So until I get to that series, ta da.

England have won the opening test in this series by 4 wickets. Batsmen Ian Bell, 153*, and Kevin Peitersen, 96, helped England to a mammoth first innings total of 571 as the Australian bowlers looked flat and down. The Australian batsmen had a big job to do but after a good start from Hughes, Watson and Ponting, the innings crumbled and Australia fell 34 runs short of the follow on. Onions was instrumental, claiming an Ashes 5-fer with Anderson chipping in with 3 wickets. Australia's second effort was not much better then the first as debutant Adam Crostwhaite made his second fifty on debut, 61. Opener Phil Hughes was the only batsman showing anything as he went on to make yet another Ashes hundred, 158. England, needing only 106 runs to win with four sessions remaining, were shaky in their chase but made it home by 4 wickets. With a thumping victory in the first test, England are very confident of reclaiming the Ashes abroad. Whilst the Australians will surely be making some changes, with the poor form of Mike Hussey.

Michael Hussey's Test spot is surely under fire now after yet another failure

You.....lost the first Test. Wtf, how the hell`d you let Bell get a century? Good to see the ICC God Hughes making another big score.

Haddin was injured in the previous series. Out for 4 weeks. Now hes available again.

Yeah, I think I might just retire Hussey. But who do I bring in? :(

Katich is already retired. :p

That Bell piicture looks vintage! Is that how long ago it was since his last century? :p

Bring in Callum Ferguson :p He`s a gun in my ICC games.
I've tried him. He doesn't really go that good in Tests does he for you?

I was thinking just drop Watson to 6 and bring in a specialist opener to team up with Hughes.
