West Indies Back to Times of Domination?

105095.jpg

Captain Gayle was at his blistering best against the Australians

The West Indies have done what Pakistan was able to do this summer also and defeat Australia in a one day series on home soil. The Australians have tried numerous batting and bowling lineups but the West Indies have been able to step up and take the challenge as they disposed of the under performing Aussies, 4-1. The only positive for the Australians came in the final dead rubber of the series, when stand in opener Michael Clarke blasted a wonderful hundred that set up a good score for his bowlers to defend. Then Mitchell Johnson bowled only 5.4 overs to claim figures of 5-28 as Australia ran home with the victory by a massive 172 runs. Australia really has some work to do in the ODI arena as they play New Zealand next month in yet another 5 match ODI series. The less said about this series from an Australian point of view the better it seems as vice-captain, Michael Clarke explains:
"This summer has been a very up and down one from an Australian point of view. After such a fantastic Test series win against the West Indies and then to back it up with another series win against Pakistan, we are very disapointed to lose both ODI series. We have a very challenging tour of New Zealand coming up straight after this so we are going to be putting in 100% in the nets as we try and keep our very good Test record in New Zealand intact. I'm sure we are up to the challenge"

The next series coming up is a tour of New Zealand, which consists of 3 test matches and 5 ODIs.

Should win against the Kiwis, got smashed by the West Indians aye, not good signs.

Coach Nielsen Ponders Team After Poor One Day Form

PM_clarke_narrowweb__300x450,0.jpg

Australian Coach Tim Nielsen works with new opener, Michael Clarke in the nets

The top of the order has become a concern for the Australians with Phil Hughes not making more then 20 in every innings bar one and with tried opener Shane Watson obviously not working, the opener positions were always going to be a talking point. Hopefully Michael Clarke can do well and cement his spot there for the time being. Ricky Ponting's number three spot is still secured after a modest series, whilst the middle order of Dave and Mike Hussey was one positive from the one dayers this summer. Callum Ferguson will only get better as he gets more experience in the Aussie side as he makes his mark on the internaitonal scene. Wicketkeeper Brad Haddin is obviously exhausted after such a long period of cricket without a break behind the stumps, so backup Graham Manou could be an option for the New Zealand tour next month. The bowlers look very tired as Stuart Clark showed this series after coming back from a recent back injury. Brett Lee is a concern as his age is a worry with the type of form hes been showing, as is Bracken who seemed to have lost his touch with the new ball. New bowlers Johnson and Siddle will want to do well in New Zealand to keep their spots after some pretty ordinary bowling - Ponting and I hope these two can do well in the tests starting soon or else we are going to find this next test and ODI series very dificult.

A statement from Tim Nielsen

In other news, the 18 man squad has been announced for the tour of New Zealand.

The First Test begins soon.

A good mix of batsmen and bowlers, but I'd probably try and take out someone like Tait for another batsman. Someone with a bit of experience. The team just needs time to click, I reckon, and hopefully the tour of New Zealand will be witness to the rejuvinated form of Australia.

Siddle to run riot. Very good presentation, Hooper, but I reckon the logo's should be the same size and perhaps the title a tad smaller. Bar that it is very good, and that is only my preference.

Tait has been very good in Test cricket this year but so I had to choose him for the tour on the back of some strong past performances. Yeah, I should resize the logos but I'm too lazy and I thought they looked good enough. :laugh

Update coming very shortly from the first test.

Fair enough, he probably deserves the place then. Haha, nice to see you are as lazy as always Hooper. ;)

If you want me to resize any pics, as you are too lazy(surprisingly... :p), then just send me a PM and I'll do them for you.

Ponting and Johnson Run Riot on Poor Kiwis

94619.jpg

Captain Ricky Ponting celebrates yet another test hundred in the first innings of a series

Australia has crushed New Zealand in the first test of this three test series by an innings and 202 runs. The Australians were absolutely dominant in the first session of the series as Hughes and the returning Katich put on a good half century opening stand. Ponting came to the crease and as he does so well, scored a majestic century in the first test of a series as he made 113. Hughes was good support with 94 as the tail wagged to bring the Australians to a very commanding 455 on the second day. Now it was the bowlers turn to shine. And did they ever. Shaun Tait, who many thought would lose his spot, was not forgotten as he bowled with great pace and menace to snare 3-39, with Stuart Clark doing well also with an impressive 3-62. With New Zealand crumbling to a dysmal 159, they were asked to follow on by Ponting. A good decision as spearhead Mitchell Johnson ripped through the Kiwis with figures of 5-28. This bowling was incredible, coupled with some good overs by Siddle and Clark, Australia bowled New Zealand all out for an embarassing 94. Adding injury to insult is the fact that their captain, Vettori, is out injured for 2 weeks with what looks to be like a broken hand due to a Tait bouncer. New Zealand have a lot to work on in the lead up to the 2nd test after such a poor performance.

Tait repaid the faith shown in selectors by snaring 3-39 in the first innings

Man of the Match: Mitchell Johnson - 49 runs & 5/28 & 2/16
