So Wellington is a green top, and Hamilton is flat?
May be worth playing two spiners in Hamilton?

TBH, I'm hoping he'll do a lot of bowling if he's picked.
i'd rather Katich go back to the middle order.

flip! You have got to be kidding me, no Cameron White!
North in The selectors can go blow themselves.
Basically. New Zealand have played two spinners at Seddon Park in two of the last three test matches they've played there, so Smith might be a chance in the second test.
Although North being retained is indeed poor. Picking White would not have correct, regardless of his ODI form.
White being called up to the test squad for this tour, would mirror Andrew Symonds being selected to test squad to Sri Lanka 2004 based on ODI form - which would be unwise. White hasn't dominated in Sheidl cricket as yet & his FC average is still inflated by his time in English cricket playing for Somerset, on one of the flattest pitches in county cricket.
They are better batsmen performing in FC like Klinger who should be ahead of White still.
Ingram has left the Blackcaps squad to go and play for Central so thats the first bit of good news we have had for a while. Franklin and Tuffey should both be good to go as well.
Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch added of Smith's inclusion: "Steven Smith is having an exceptional Shield season, three tons and exceptional innings last week. He adds great versatility to the squad, we've made no secret of fact we'd like to be in position when necessary to play two spinners and he gives us that opportunity, and he's also well and truly enough to bat in the top six."
"Steve is working on his bowling but leg spin difficult art. He needs a lot more cricket at domestic level and any exposure we can get him at international level we'll be looking to give him as well, because we think he's a player of future."
