Australia tour of South Africa, 2008/09

Oh, so THAT'S why Ponting hasn't been bowling McGain. I know he's a quality spinner, just needs to get his line right, not bowling that rubbish outside off.

Silly commentators going on about Prince having the 3rd best converison rate in the history of the game.

Clearly, Hayden has the 2nd best converison rate, behind only Bradman. 30 Test Centuries & 29 Fifities is allot better then 11 hundreds, 8 fifities.

Erm, he doesn't. Pietersen and Strauss have got a better conversion rate than Hayden. Hayden's scored more hundreds, but his conversion percentage isn't as good as Headley, Prince, Strauss or Pietersen. Fact.

But in context, Hayden's feat is more impressive because he maintained for twice as long. At one stage, Hayden had scored 20 hundreds & 15 fifites and before the slump that ended his career, he had 30 hundreds & 27 fifities.

Yes, but they're looking at career conversion percentages, not who scored hundreds over a certain period of time, and the fact of the matter is, there are quite a few players with a better conversion rate. Whether they've played less games or not, they've all got a better conversion percentage than Hayden!

Prince and Kallis are finishing McGain's international career here. I don't think he will be selected again after this poor showing. At the moment I would say South Africa is going towards an innings victory. But a collapse can change things.

I double ton from Kallis might alter the views of some who claim he "goes missing" against Australia.

He looks good for at least a hundred, as long as he doesn't try any of those extravagant attempted square drives that keep getting him out.

Poor McGain, maybe his accuracy is not such a good thing, it is probably making him too predictable. Maybe he should throw in a few MacGill like head high full tosses to fool them.

Hauritz is looking the best option out of the spinners they have tried this season, I know he is a defensive bowler, but at least he can be trusted to tie up an end. They keep going on about the fact that Krejza "gives the ball a rip", but he bowls too many 4 balls, and doesn't seem to have an arm ball. At least Hauritz has an arm ball, you need some variety to survive at that level.

Katich is probably the best spinner in the country, it's a shame he doesn't want to bowl more because he "pulls up sore" after a bowl and takes a few days to recover. Maybe he should bowl regularly so he is fit enough not to end up in pain after a bowl. Occasional bowlers always have that problem, anyone who has had a bowl after a 6 month off season will tell you that the first bowl you have after a long break will leave you sore for a few days afterwards.

LOL @ McGain. I thought Krejza's economy against India was bad, but McGain's gone at 9.30 runs an over, and that's with 2 maidens chucked in. So he's basically bowled 8 overs for 93, awesome stuff. Not quite the next Warne then :p

If I were you, I'd be watching this very very closely, because come the Ashes, Stuart Broad is going to be facing a similar fate as to what McGain has faced thus far.

Except that Broad is actually a good bowler, and his Test economy rate is lower than McGain's FC economy. If I were you, I'd be very careful how much flak you give Broad, cause it'll come back to bite you when he's taking wickets ;) Broad's been dealt alot of very flat tracks in his short spell in Test cricket, and he's had to learn how to bowl on those flat tracks as he's gone along. He bowled pretty poorly against New Zealand at home, but on the 1 wicket that offered something for the bowlers against South Africa he took 5 wickets and bowled very nicely, and he's been awesome against West Indies.

Slag Broad off at your peril.
