I think there could be a chance Steve Smith might be removed from captaincy and Ajinkya Rahane is given the captaincy of Rajasthan Royals. Maybe they might play Smith as a player (as you said, huge stakes involved as Smith was a retained player for RR). But again, Rajasthan have deferred decision to BCCI on this. So we got to see how BCCI reacts on this. It would be ideal if Smith and Warner's contracts are terminated and they disallowed from IPL for a few years (if you can suspend CSK and RR for indulging in spot fixing, you should do the same for Smith and Warner too).

I dont expect the BCCI to allow them to play in the IPL. Obviously there are legal ramifications but given the severity and backlash internationally having them in the IPL is a liability, so soon atleast.

They'll have to tear their own house down then. From what's happening right now, I CANNOT see Smith and Warner featuring in this year's IPL atleast. And I am not talking about them losing captaincy. I am talking about them not PLAYING the IPL.

If Ben Stokes can be in trouble of not playing IPL because of his affray incident, Smith and Warner should definitely be in bigger trouble for doing something that amounts to as much disgrace as fixing

I am pretty sure BCCI must have some clause in the contracts which covers integrity/code of conduct/bringing disrepute to the sport, blah blah blah. Or CA has some coverage in their contracts with these players which will allow them to revoke the NOC's.

All this talk of life bans is way over the top and irrational emotional thinking. They're not saints, they've cheated but everyone makes mistakes and no need to ruin their careers. 6 month- 1 year ban with captain and vice captain positions vacated is about right.

If CA want to be honest and not fool the cricketing world, they must fire Lehmann. He seems to be the root cause and is quietly in the background..

I think you're naive to think this will just blow over. In Australia pride in sport is of utmost importance. Smith has embarrassed a nation. He will suffer the consequences of that along with his goonies.
