Australia tour of South Africa 2018

I just want to know what you guys think..Lehmann was clearly on the walkie-talkie.. Handscomb was clearly receiving the message and then he clearly went and spoke to Bancroft.

in my eyes, it's damning evidence as damning can be. His position must be untenable.

The expression on Lehmann's face in that video footage says it all. Wonder why the players took it on themselves and tried to keep Lehmann clean on this! He definitely needs to be sacked from his post.

ICC are bound by the rules. I already mentioned yesterday that he could only receive a one match ban. Cricket Australia on the other have have their own Code of Conduct and they are not bound by MCC Laws. Its about national pride and integrity.
Exactly, plus CA are being put under pressure by sponsors and broadcasters.

Warner won't play the 4th Test, according to this article

I have a theory for that as you must have read.

Wow, things have escalated very quickly. Initially it seemed like a (relatively) minor issue but it is a full blown scandal now. A part of me does think that the Australian management has made this bigger than it should've been but in any case, every player involved deserves very strict punishment.

This is a really good article on the thoughts of an Australian fan. Worth a read.

This is a counter-point article, more of a devil's advocate version. Again worth a read.

Unless Australian Government involves, I don't see big punishments being imposed on Steven Smith.

It was clear, Bancroft had to take it on himself, which he didn't. So Smith had to confess this. Had Bancroft been a team player, this issue would have not even come out.

I completely disagree. He's not a kid, but he's only 25 and more importantly only 8 test matches old. Think of people like Katich who didn't see eye to eye with an Australian captain and what happened to their careers? I think Bancroft was at the wrong place at the wrong time. In his place, admitting to something like this would have meant curtains and for the sake of cricket it's good that Smith's true colours came out in the open. He had already gotten away with it once and that gave him the nerve to hatch a plot like this. God knows what was next.

The bullet should have been taken by Smith by not mentioning 'leadership group.'

Naive to think that Bangerz initiated this on his own. If you know anything about sports the captain is the authority, Smith had no choice but to own up.

Have you read anything on this matter at all? The ASC are the ones who floated the idea of removing Smith from his position even while the investigations are taking place.

The posting on the last couple pages have been top notched. Can see members put some reasoning and research into their posts. You on the other hand!

It's good that he has opened up, but no body involved in this, including Smith, would have thought he would drag everyone into the scene.

It is obvious that complete team was aware of this. When things go wrong, the guy who gets caught is expected to take responsibility on him and save the prestige of his team, which Bancroft didn't. It's your foolishness to not understand my point precisely.

Oh yes, I never check cricket related news.

What I meant was unless they *impose* some sort of ban, Cricket Australia is not going to take big steps.

Tbh all these discussions and people asking for a life ban for them is insane and absurd. Rules are/should be same for everyone, it's like a guy has to pay a fine for slapping someone while the other is hanged for the same. In all such previous cases, people were fined so why should there be a different punishment for these guys like a life ban? Biggest punishment these guys already got is they'll always be tagged a cheat no matter how great their careers go from here and have lost everyone's respect including their own self respect plus what they've been going through emotionally is nothing less than a year ban. People do make mistakes.

The article to the link you've posted points to a theory which says Warner was the chief instigator in this controversy. I am not surprised to hear that, and if that's true, Warner deserves the biggest punishment or atleast the same as Steve Smith. Warner's behavior this entire tour has been absolutely 'deplorable' and he has created an infamous name for himself by indulging in silly and unwanted sledging acts. And he always finds some tool to hide behind when the focus comes onto him.

I am eagerly awaiting to see what the CA investigates of David Warner's role in this saga and what treatment they mete out to him.

Fair enough then I get your point about Bangerz taking it upon himself.

Actually its Smith who implicated others involved when he used the term ‘leadership group’. Surely others knew what was going on the field of play but I cant see all 11 players in unison in this deplorable act.

I am a great believer that Warner has been given far to much space in the Aussie setup and has been allowed to create an atmosphere of anything goes bullying. He is in my eyes just a thug and hooligan who needs to be get rid of.
