Australia tour of South Africa 2018

I think you're naive to think this will just blow over. In Australia pride in sport is of utmost importance. Smith has embarrassed a nation. He will suffer the consequences of that along with his goonies.

It has already blown over with ICC. One match ban for Smith and no ban for Bancroft is already an eyewash. Plus completely ignoring Warner's involvement (why else would he step down if he was not part of that leadership group?_

Lets see what Cricket Australia does. I just wouldn't be surprised if nothing much happens from their end either.

This whole issue really brings into question the ‘dark art’ of reverse swing.

Outside of Starc the only other bowler from Australia using reverse swing was perhaps Brett Lee? Correct me if I am wrong! They had Warne/Mcgill to use the older ball in the past. I am thinking have this present Australian theme been possesed by the ‘dark art’ as we’ve seen in the past with Pakistan, India and South Africa?

More I look at it Smith and his men have been devoured by this dark art of cricket. Which is sad given they had bowlers like Lilee/Thompson etc, even as recent Mitch Johnson and Ryan Harris who depended on pace/bounce. Having a skill exponent in Starc was inevitable for them to tamper with the ball.

I have a similar feeling. the "life ban" seems to be a way to calm the public down..[DOUBLEPOST=1522064020][/DOUBLEPOST]
Did Smith step down or was he sacked by the management ?

At the moment, if Smith says he's resigned also, 100% people will feel he's sacked

Warner’s name and role in the saga has not been clearly identified hence ICC are not taking action against him! Question arises though outside if the match referee are the ICC investigating further? Seem they arent!

Obviously the ICC need to be more stringent these issues but its a tricky one as the major test playing nations are using reverse swing more and more developing bowlers who can exploit it!

Unable to confirm at this point but from all indications it seems Sutherland will receive the report and make recommendations when he lands on SA soil on Tuesday.

Exactly. Looks like there is not going to be an investigation from ICC. They are done on this issue

The fact that the "leadership" was brought into picture by the accused leading to Warner stepping down is pretty damning. An investigation was required to get to the bottom of this

IMHO, I think Bancroft was asked to take the full blame on himself but he must have turned it down seeing it as career suicide. Because of the lack of time to react and a test ongoing Smith underestimated the uproar. He probably thought mentioning 'leadership group' would absolve him of any serious harm and so decided to veto Lehmann.

Lehmann must be fired regardless. If this has happened in his knowledge, the firing is obvious and if not, then he's clearly just gone for a holiday to South Africa. I've said for very long that Smith is a very selfish individual. The brain fade episode had foul play written all over it but was ignored because a high profile series was generating revenue and Smith is no ordinary person. He is after all, the captain of Australia.

Smith should have taken it all upon himself. He's ended up dragging all the Aussies with him instead and specially killed off any chances Warner has of ever leading Australia who arguably is their best leader.

I just want to know what you guys think..Lehmann was clearly on the walkie-talkie.. Handscomb was clearly receiving the message and then he clearly went and spoke to Bancroft.

in my eyes, it's damning evidence as damning can be. His position must be untenable.

Wow, things have escalated very quickly. Initially it seemed like a (relatively) minor issue but it is a full blown scandal now. A part of me does think that the Australian management has made this bigger than it should've been but in any case, every player involved deserves very strict punishment.

ICC are bound by the rules. I already mentioned yesterday that he could only receive a one match ban. Cricket Australia on the other have have their own Code of Conduct and they are not bound by MCC Laws. Its about national pride and integrity.
